Claire (cgsapphire) Hello from southwestern Ontario in the not-so-white north, i.e. Canada. It hit 8 degrees Celcius today (or 46 Farenheit for our southern neighbours). Positively balmy!
I'm an avid reader of mysteries and cannot understand why anyone would not be :-). Favourite authors include Louise Penny, Peter Robinson, Elizabeth George, Donna Leon, Reginald Hill (will miss him), Ian Rankin, Mark Billingham, Susan Hill, Erin Hart (I will stop now). I love police procedurals, especially if they're a series, with great atmosphere, setting and characterization. I do read a fair bit of other genres - fantasy, YA, classic literature, odds and ends of this and that but mysteries are my favourite if I want to relax and get lost in a book.
I'm a library technician working in education and love being around books. I've just recently joined goodreads and have been spending a lot of time adding books to my read shelf. It is very addictive!
I'm excited to join this group - my first! I look forward to sharing with you all!

Claire (cgsapphire) Thanks for the warning Keri :-) I'm sure it will rival the physical TBR pile I have waiting for me here. So many books, so little time...

Alisha~Seek and ye shall find~ (hiddentreasures) I have to agree about it being addictive! Watch out! ;)

Just thought I'd say "hi, Claire". I'm an author and librarian who lives in Newmarket, Ontario and works in the Toronto Public Library system, so I feel we have a few things in common.
Welcome to the group.

Claire (cgsapphire) Thank you all for the warm welcome! I am looking very forward to being a part of this group.

Claire (cgsapphire) Thank you everyone for saying 'hello' and welcoming me. I am quite new at this but I am sure I will enjoy being a part of this group.

Sharon Michael | 674 comments Welcome to the group, Claire. I'm a fairly recent member and a recent Kindle owner and I will attest to the fact that your TBR pile and book budget are going to take a real hit.

Monica | 75 comments Welcome Claire, from a fellow Canadian living on the opposite coast...you'll love this book club. I was once an average sorta mystery/crime reader. Since finding this group I've become an addicted mystery/crime reader. I'm always finding a new author to read, and another...and another. Happy reading!

Have you discovered Charles Todd yet? This mother/son writing team write the Inspector Ian Rutledge mystery. Series starts in 1919, Rutledge is just back from the Great War, getting back to work at Scotland Yard and trying to hide his unresolved shell shock, which in his case involves being haunted by the young soldier he shot for cowardice at the front. So he solves these mysteries while dealing with a voice in his head that nobody else can hear. They're very atmospheric and angsty.

J.C. Martin (jcmartin) | 37 comments Sorry I'm late to the party--hello Claire, and welcome! Some great authors there in your favourites list! Police procedurals, eh? Hmm ... perhaps you may be interested in mine? ;)

On a less self-promotional note, have you read any Richard Montanari? His series involving Detectives Kevin Byrne and Jessica Balzano revolve around some dark and twisted crimes, like in THE ROSARY GIRLS and THE SKIN GODS. Also Boris Starling's MESSIAH was a mind-blowing read.

I'm afraid we'll all be adding to your already growing TBR pile. :)

Claire, Richard Montanari's books are fantastic just what you want for crimes, i'm waiting patiently for his next one to be published.

Yes, THE KILLING ROOM, available in a couple of weeks! :)

Claire (cgsapphire) Thanks for the Richard Montanari recommendation - it looks interesting. I've added him to my ever increasing TBR pile (you did warn me... :-))

Welcome. This is an addicting place to be. Have you discovered Jeffery Deaver? His Lincoln Rhyme series starting with the Bone Collector sounds like your type of Police procedural books.

M. Myers (mruth) | 100 comments Welcome, Claire! You'll have great fun. If you're not familiar with the books by Charles Todd you might enjoy those. One series features a Scotland Yard detective after The Great War and they have a depth to them which I particularly enjoy.

message 21: by Claire (new)

Claire (cgsapphire) Thanks Tim and M.! I'll definitely look at your recommendations. So many books... so little time... Mind you, there could be worse problems to have!

By the way, Clair, should you decide to look at Jeffery Deaver's Lincoln Rhyme series, it is best to start with the first in the series. After that, it isn't so critical.
