Hey, have u guys ever written letters to yourself, and then hidden them somewhere for where in the future you come across it, and then read it?

yay gooo brigid!! lol XD

cali, our rabbi at my school made us do that; she told us to write letters to ourselves, and then she took it, and in about a year she sent it back to us through the mail. i wrote stuff like "this is stupid" and "i don't know what to write" so yeah...lol XD

message 55: by [deleted user] (new)

lol hilarious.
Yeah it's cool like you find it in a few years, and yeah!

oh i did that last year. i wrote a letter to myself that i'm going to read after i graduate from high school. i don't remember what i wrote in it, but i guess that's a good thing cuz it'll be surprising. lol.

message 58: by [deleted user] (new)

hey so back to "why do you write?" i found this really great quote by Anne Sullivan that explains it all.

"Too often, I think, children are required to write before they have anything to say. Teach them to think and read and talk with self-repression, and they will write because they cannot help it."

i suppose. although if i recall correctly, i was kinda in a bad mood when i wrote it. so it's like, "You may think you're so cool just cuz you survived high school and you're going to college and all, but you're STILL A LOSER!!! BWA HAHA!!"

O.o yeaaah ...

Daisy | 1074 comments I hate telling teachers my actual opinion on something serious!! I have no idea why but I do!

... I never have any sort of personal relationship with my teachers, and never had. I mean, it's simply, 'student/teacher.' They teach me, I learn. I don't know their personal lives, and they don't know mine.

message 67: by Daisy (new)

Daisy | 1074 comments Same. But the teachers will always ask the class to write letters to soilders in iraq and Barack Obama. They ask you to write about issues you think our important or things that almost make me cry. And I always have to like keep away from telling my own opinion because it usually ends up being heart-felt, complicated, and makes me sound like a terapist. I just don't want teachers to know that I have feelings other than the fluffybnunny-ness that they show us. because I hate knowing that my teacher will read my letter and grade it on conventions and weather or not I have 6 sentences in a paragraph! It makes me think that they don't care, most of the time i think they don't.

Oh. Well that really sucks. I think that my lit teacher this year isn't quite so cold.

But I understand how you feel. Before 8th grade, I was afraid to actually use style in my writing because I was afraid that my teachers would think I was rude with my usage of sarcasm. But then at the beginning of 8th grade, we had an assignment to write about what animal we would be if we were an animal. Or something like that. I think it was a get-to-know-you sort of thing. Anyhow, I really let myself show for the first time in that assignment, and after that I realized that I did not need to modify MY writing to other's liking. Since then I haven't given a care if I sound rude when I'm being sarcastic, because if somebody takes it as rude or personally insulting, that's THEIR problem, not mine. After all, the writer just writes, and the reader interprets.

message 69: by Daisy (new)

Daisy | 1074 comments I really need to get off my butt and write something thoughtful and depressing! I've been repressing it forever and i'm getting a whole new load of writing projects to repress my feelings at school. So now i keep writing long paragraphs explaining everything in a ton of groups!

I don't really have much personal relationships with my teachers, except for one...my math teacher is super duper nice, and shes always on our side, and shes really fun to talk to and stuff...and we always tell her about our lives and she tells us about hers, so math is like a chatter class. lol XD. and i babysit for her, and her two kids are sooo cute. XD

message 71: by Paige (new)

Paige Miller Idk. I love to read, makes me want to write, I guess. I don't draw anything except magna, so it's a way to express myself, I guess

message 77: by Roberto (new)

Roberto Cofresí (rchopgood) I write for sanity in an insane world. Through writing I find connections between things I previously thought were unrelated. Through writing I find meanings I never realized were there. Through writing I find purpose where before I thought there was none.

Writing is a way to see further and deeper into life. Like a microscope or a telescope through which you can look at life. And although I know that writing is ultimately an illusion, it is an illusion that can become real because when it's good, it is more real than reality itself.
