What is the significance of the mockingjay image?

What does it mean to the people in the Districts and
the people in the Capitol?

Why does Plutarch Heavensbeeshow Katniss the hidden mockingjay image
on his watch?

The Mockingjay is a symbol of hope. That not all is lost. Even though the rebels horribly lost their previous rebellion, other things have gone on. That their are things even the Capitol can't control. The watch shows that the arena will be a clock. TICK TOCK

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

Mockingjay=freedom! and a smack in the face to the capitol...

I think the watch was also to show Katniss that Plutarch was on her side...kinda like the gold bangle Finnick showed her to prove to her he was a good ally.

Yes, I like when authors do that. I also liked how she was like, "Befriend Finnick, get food."

LiteraryMary95 To the Districts, it means several things, such as rebellion, hope, freedom, beauty, and unity. To the Capitol, it means revenge from the Districts. I think Plutarch used his watch o tell Katniss how the arena is set up and that he is trying to stop the Hunger Games and Snow.

Well worded. I agree, thanks Marilyn.

Nya Tomlinson-Horan-Malik-Payne-Styles i think the significance of the mockingjay is that the bird kind of mocked the capitol. they didnt expect for the species to be created. the capitol believed that the jabberjays would die off, but they didnt. which kind of relates to katniss.

Intersting thought, thanks Nya. I had never thought of that.

Jules:) Nya wrote: "i think the significance of the mockingjay is that the bird kind of mocked the capitol. they didnt expect for the species to be created. the capitol believed that the jabberjays would die off, but ..."

With that being said, I find it funny how they mated with MOCKINGbirds....not blue jays, or cardnials, or crows, but a bird who's name is mocking:P

Nya Tomlinson-Horan-Malik-Payne-Styles that is very cool. i wonder if collins did that on purpose

Lauren Gibson (laurengibson) | 3009 comments Mod
I bet. I wouldn't be surprised if most of everything she wrote was on purpose.

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

Mockingjay sounds better than crowjay or cardijay, too. That might've been a factor.

message 16: by Lauren, Head Gamemaker (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lauren Gibson (laurengibson) | 3009 comments Mod
Ya know I think that was one of the main factors.

Cardijay does sound kinda cool though. But yeah also the whole we know the capitol is hiding something about thirteen because we see the mockingjay wing each time. That was another thing cause thirteen rebelled as well.

Yeah.

LiteraryMary95 Yeah, Mockingjay has a good ring to it.

I like it.

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

We all do :) Over Crowjay, anyway.

Horcruxiatus (ATeam) | 9 comments I'd say its simple enough really.

The History of it is that the rebels fed lies to the Jabberjays so the Capitol abandoned them. The Mockinjay is just a more subtle way of hinting. Where as using a Jabberjay would've been a real explosion in the face and they would've killed her for wearing that symbol in the first one.

message 29: by [deleted user] (new)

Angel, like me, is sore from spending a day playing volleyball and reffing. She says that she is going to sleep now.

Horcruxiatus (ATeam) | 9 comments Weird, my birthday's on thursday.

Hi Angel, Joe, Lydia and Snickerdoodle.

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah words usually sound better if they end in a vowel... espically made up ones

Ah, I'm not surprised Snickerdoodle is the one to master it. I'm meaning I don't want to take the time to spell that out. While "Joe" is three easy key taps.

Sorry, got a little carried away, Joe.

Anyway, Joe, what do you think of Mockingjay... I wouldn't be surprised if you left the group.

Here, make fun of my name: Lauren. Go ahead, I'm sure you'll find some funny stuff.

Horcruxiatus (ATeam) | 9 comments No, no, I'm alright.

And do you mean Mockingjay the word or Mockingjay the book?

message 49: by Lauren, Head Gamemaker (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lauren Gibson (laurengibson) | 3009 comments Mod
Uhm... let's say the word... yup, let's go with that.

I think that it has another really complex meaning behind it...
