Well well..Katniss doesn't listen to directions once again. What a suprise! She's Katniss. That's what she does. So, it was not particularly wise, but she did okay. Avoided getting killed. I think Katniss's best skill for staying alive is her knowledge of nature. If she didn't know anything about, say what plants to eat, she would of died by eating nightlock. I think what keeps Katniss going personality wise, is her determination. She doesn't give up. Well..not in the first book.
Yeah, not in the first book. I agree, luckily for her everything worked out and that supplies did come in handy... even though she didn't know what a few of them were. I think Katniss was at her best in the first book. I also think that her skill with her bow aided her very much. Especially in gaining points from the gamemakers but also putting a huge target on her back.
Katniss was at her finest. She truely was "THE GIRL ON FIRE"..Maybe the flames died out a bit. You can't blame her, though.
Yes. I don't think I'd be that strong by the second and third but... I don't know I'd just have more... I can't think of the word. Hope? Determination? Love? Optimism?
Yes..maybe. Katniss broke down by the end...by she didn't really have the optimism. Peeta did, though. I guess he helped her regain a bit of hers.
That's also what I liked. Peeta was optimistic... a little pessimistic after the brainwashing... but I like that because I am VERY optimistic and who likes a drab pessimist? Not me.

Pessimistic? He was downright miserable. "Kill me now..." I hated how sad and depressed he was! How he threw himself onto the closet door again and again..wore handcuffs to focus...

I agree. Yes, Pessimistic is probably one of many describing words... :)
I really hated Katniss, to tell you the truth. Hated her.

Only in the third book. She was starting to irk me a little in the second but mostly the third. I just saw a lot of the fight and a lot of what I loved about her character drain out to be replaced by a mentally unstable girl hiding in a supplies closet.
I can see a bit where you are coming from. But...perhaps I would do the same thing if I were in her position.
Yes. I agree, I mean, you never know. As the reader it's hard to really put yourself in the shoes of the character when the things he/she are dealing with are a far cry from your every day life.
I find it hard. I only understand it usually after hearing other people and discussing it with others.

I try. Sometimes I find it hard. It depends on the book. I think I did it more in the first and second book than the third. A little in the third. I think I imagined more of Peeta's view in MJ.
Awwwwwww....So you felt beaten and tourtured? I seriously was crying when she talked about his blood on the tiles. I am either the main character or a bystander...usually the latter.
Well, more the confused part of it. What it would feel like to not know what was real and not real and to really have to reconstruct your memory and life. Me too.
It must of been horrible (see what I mean about me throwing pity parties for him?). Sooo horrible..Poor Peeta.
Yes, poor Peeta. He was one of my favorite characters. I think I liked him in the end more than Katniss. He just seemed more... real. Besides he was more likeable and he was easier to feel for. I mean, sometimes Katniss just seemed... distant and a little self-pitying and you felt like she wasn't making progress. She seemed like a hopeless case and she wasn't even the one brainwashed and lying, mentally ill chained to a hospital bed!
*shrugs* True..But Katniss doesn't have that...on going strength? I guess I'm just making excuses for her. Sometimes she was self-pitying..Sometimes I feel like I'm Katniss...so maybe that's why I making excuses!
Hey, I don't blame you. I mean, I'm reconstructed (wow, that word is way overused by moi don't ya think) my opinion of her over the course of what 10 days. I liked the character Katniss Everdeen but at certain moments in the Hunger Games Trilogy I felt the burning desire to jump into the word filled pages and rip her head off... but overall I loved reading about her.
haah...Wow..interesting! The most I wanted to do was hit her on the head or something...talk to her..never THAT far.. :)
Hey it's better than some things I heard, "I wanted to murder her [Katniss] right then and there." "I wanted to throw it [the book] at the wall" {Poor book! That probably cost a lost} "I wanted to punch Suzanne Collins in the face!" {Ouch}
etc, etc, etc.
Gosh, will I ever get it right? Let me try it again.

BETTER?

hahaahaa..much..I love the Tangled reference. If I ever go into THG, my weapon of choice will be a frying pan! :)

Thank you. I was like... hmmmm, what a good thing to whack her with.... then I looked at my picture and boom! LIGHTBULB
Frying Pan.
It's an excellent weapon choice, want proof, watch Tangled.

Nah, I don't care..come on, I've read HP more times then I know..and have reread scenes in THG too many times to count :)
Watched the WHOLE movie through. Probably like 11 times if I count half-ways, beginnings, and ends.
That's awesome! What's you favorite song in it? For me it's either When will my life begin or The everyone has a dream song.
I've Got a Dream is the BEST! Me and this kid in my science class always sang it.
I liked the song that was sang with Flynn and Rapunzel in the boat. I can't think of the title.
And Mother Knows Best.
Those are the songs I sang when I hiked five miles. Totally made it easier. Thank goodness for Disney.

I know! I LOVE DISNEY MOVIES! I love Mulan, Alladin, Hercules, Little Mermaid, Tangled....and more..Oh, I could listen to disney music all day *plays I'll make a man out of you*
ME TOO! I love that song. Donny Osmond is great. Disney music is just... lovely. Nothing bad, just lovely.
LOVELY?! IT IS AMAZINGLY AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Katniss saw the bow and arrows, but got distracted so she had to get the next best thing that was the closest. She needed some sort of equipment. I think Katniss did the right thing, even though it's her weakness. It was good she took the backpack because she used it to save her life (knife thrown to her head) and it had things to help stay warm and other stuff. Her most important skills were hunting and determination. She knew quite a bit about nature and learned even more when she allied herself with Rue. Learning more about nature helped her feed herself and Peeta without starving themselves too much. Her bow and arrows really helped her get the protein from the dead animals' meat and also used it for protection from the mutts. Her trapping skills, that came from Gale's knowlegde, herlped her get food, too. Her traits that kept her going were definitely intelligence and self- control, but I'm not sure about love Since she kind of faked it in the arena so he could eat and so she could save both of them without 12 hating her for not saving Peeta when she had the chance.
katniss should have listened to haymitch. and peeta should have had enough sense to leave the careers alone and team up with someone else. i mean come on, people back in district 12 must have been disgusted with him.

I agree about the careers. I mean what Peeta gained from that alliance was slight protection and a fatal leg wound.

I was looking at imdb and i realized just how many people died at the cornicoupia or shortly there after. They are all unnamed and some arent even going to be in the credits at the end.

head directly away from the Cornucopia? Do you think she did the right thing going for that equipment? What do you think are the most important skills she has for staying alive?
Her knowledge of nature? Her skill with a bow and
arrow? Her trapping ability?
What qualities of her personality keep her going? Her capacity for love? Her intelligence? Her self-control?
