Sonia's Song, a memoir by Sonia Korn-Grimani, from WW2 to beyond.
Hi I just recently published this memoir along with my wife who did most of the editing (and design, and promoting, and everything else that goes into a book!) We knew Sonia had an interesting career but didn't know anything about her early life until we saw the manuscript for her story, which is worthy of a feature film. It had already been published in Europe, but we knew there was even more to her life. We conducted over 30 hours of interviews to add detail to the book.
The book opens thus:
I stand three feet six inches tall when I am declared an enemy of the German State.
I would feel prouder of this distinction if I’d actually done something to earn it: like sabotaging a train by laying dynamite on the tracks, or willfully exposing my neighbors to a dread disease á la Typhoid Mary. But at the age of seven, my options for wreaking havoc are limited. In fact, my family and I have been spending more and more time by ourselves, in the shadows..
