OK! I am writing a story and I've decided I'd like all the names to be irish. Some of the characters so far are Ailis (AY-lish), and Isolde (IZ-old). BUT!

I am looking for a boys name that starts with P, preferably. OTHER than Patrick.

He's going to be a good friend of the main character, and when her sister dies, will help her avenge her death, and eventually become a love interest. If that helps ^^.

Ella (ellarosewood) | 223 comments Peirce
Padraic

message 3: by Lynxie (new)

Lynxie How about Phinean (Irish Finian)? or Phelan (wolf)?

Good ol' Paddy?

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

I like Phinean and Peirce. Maybe Paddy, though that is a form of Patrick, ain't it? XD

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

Hmmm....how does this sound?

I hear footsteps on the well worn path up to my favourite hill. I look up from Ailis' serene face for a moment to see who it is. "She's dead." Phinean's face crumples, and that's when I can't take it anymore. That's when I break down and cry.

message 6: by Lynxie (new)

Lynxie If you're willing to leave the P names... here are a few others I like

Dubhlainn - meaning Black sword (Dubhlainn loved the fairy queen and legendary harpist Aoibhell who gave him her cloak of invisibility to wear in battle.)

Fergus - meaning a strong warrior, virile.

Murtagh - meaning skilled in the way of the sea

Ruari (pronounced Ro+ree) - meaning red king or great king

Hope they help :D

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm liking Phinean, Fergus, Murtagh, and Declan.

Hmmm....

Cami (camikittr) | 327 comments Haha

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

So Phinean and Fergus is my last two. I CAN'T DECIDE!?

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

I like the name Declan, but I don't think it really fits the charrie. That's all. But I'm gonna keep it on file because its a great name!

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

My cousin's name is Declan. ^^

message 12: by Hope (new)

Hope I want to learn German.

message 13: by Lynxie (new)

Lynxie Amara, tell us a little more about this character, maybe that will help you decide.

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

OK, Lynxie!

He's a close friend of Isolde, the MC, and is really brotherly toward her and Ailis. He's kind, outgoing and dependable. He's been admired and chased by many, but he isn't really interested in anyone.

message 15: by Lynxie (new)

Lynxie I like Fergus.

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

Hmmm....

I'll post a short paragraph that he's in and use the name. Let's see if it fits. I might write another paragraph or something to elaborate more if this isn't enough:

I hear footsteps on the well worn path up to my favourite hill. I look up from Ailis' serene face for a moment to see who it is. "Fergus...She's dead." Fergus' face crumples, and that's when I can't take it anymore. That's when I break down and cry.

Eh. They're both pretty good. But does anyone know what you could shorten Declan or Fergus to? As a nickname? I just think that Isolde would probably have a nickname for him, as they've been friends for, like, forever.

message 17: by Cami (new)

Cami (camikittr) | 327 comments Gus for Fergus?

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

Mebbe. It's gotta be either "Fer" or "Gus" for that name ^^.

Though I could also go all Peeta, and have Isolde call him something about his occupation/disposition. Boy With The Bread-style.

message 19: by Cami (new)

Cami (camikittr) | 327 comments Yeah...

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

XD Yeah....

But I wish I could figure out what he did in their society....I think it's going to be an alternate universe/dystopian novel.

message 21: by Lynxie (new)

Lynxie Yeah fergus doesn't leave many choices for nicknames... though you could always go with something based on how he comes across - like in Scrooged... where Bill Murray's character is called Lumpy by the girlfriend because of them bashing heads a couple of times when they first met.

message 22: by Ella (new)

Ella (ellarosewood) | 223 comments Fergi? It's sort of a pet name though.

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

Fergi...XD. Reminds me of the Black Eyed Peas.

Hmmm....I think I just have to work on the charrie more, develop personality a bit more, and then the name should be easier to pick.

message 24: by Avocado (new)

Avocado | 29 comments I'm new to this conversation, but for anyone who struggles with character's names, I highly recommend www.behindthename.com. It's an amazing site where you can search by meaning, nationality, gender, myth, time period, etc. I've grabbed almost all of my characters' names from that site! There is also www.behindthesurname.com, which is full of last names if you really need them :) Good luck everyone!

Avocado | 29 comments Lauren (Flame) wrote: "Wow, thanks for the tip, Amira!"

You're welcome! :)

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

I found the name! It shall be: Finnian!!!

It just fits him, I feel. ^^ Thanks for all your help, guys!

message 27: by [deleted user] (last edited Feb 06, 2012 07:39PM) (new)

XD Yep. But maybe it can help others, too.

message 28: by Lynxie (new)

Lynxie YAY!! Glad we could help Amara :D

Good luck with the rest of your story!

message 29: by Avocado (new)

Avocado | 29 comments I second that! Finding names can really set the whole thing into motion. Good luck :)

message 30: by Ella (new)

Ella (ellarosewood) | 223 comments Hmm, tell us more about him.

message 31: by Lynxie (last edited Feb 07, 2012 02:53PM) (new)

Lynxie Ok so I've had a read Lauren...I'm pretty intrigued as to what is going to happen. I think we'll need some more information about the guy to help you with his name though!

Somethings I noticed:
sucking in a breath at the stinking that now swarmed over her finger. A paper cut. *Should that be stinging?*

All the sudden, she wondered why no one was in town today. *Should this be 'All of a sudden'?* x 2

Ruby was shoved again the mailbox hard *this should be against*

making her diorented and dizzy *disoriented*

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

^^ Maybe....

Jacob
Isaac
James
John
Taylor

message 33: by Lynxie (new)

Lynxie Ok from that description, the first name that popped into my head was Darren.

Not sure why haha!

message 34: by Lynxie (new)

Lynxie Damon screams vampire to me (probably watching too many eps of the vampire diaries).

How about Derryn?

message 35: by Lynxie (new)

Lynxie Lauren, you mentioned you needed a name for the woman too... what can you tell us about her?

message 36: by Lynxie (new)

Lynxie Is she a b!tch or nice or snobby?! What do you invisage her looking like?

As a general rule from the books I've read, vampires tend to have very basic names if they're part of a group, yet extraordinary ones if they're out on their own.

From the little I know about this woman, I see her having a strong name... maybe an exotic name. Perhaps something like Svetlana, Olga or Inga?

message 37: by [deleted user] (new)

The names are all Scandinavian, lol. My kin. ^^

message 38: by Ella (new)

Ella (ellarosewood) | 223 comments So you said old names?
Magdalene Choiseul
Louis Rousseau

message 39: by [deleted user] (new)

Yep! But I think Svetlana would work as a name..... Or maybe Adelaide?

message 40: by [deleted user] (new)

I like them, too!

message 41: by Ella (new)

Ella (ellarosewood) | 223 comments What about Louis Rousseau?

message 42: by Ella (new)

Ella (ellarosewood) | 223 comments Yes Lauren. Louis for the guy. You think I meant Louis for the girl? That would be a little odd.

message 43: by [deleted user] (new)

There might be other forms of Adelaide? Like it maybe a form of, say, Helen, so you could find another form of the root name?

By the way, I don't think the root name really is Helen. XD

message 44: by [deleted user] (new)

For your Charrie or Flame's?

message 45: by [deleted user] (new)

I like the first, second, and third ones.

message 46: by Ella (new)

Ella (ellarosewood) | 223 comments Yeah!

message 47: by Lynxie (new)

Lynxie yay for Darryn :D I do like Qwinivere too :D

message 48: by Lynxie (new)

Lynxie haha - didn't mean to put in a Q... LOL!

message 49: by Lynxie (new)

Lynxie Grinivere... haha these typos could lead to some interesting names!

message 50: by Lynxie (new)

Lynxie so which version of Gwinivere are you going to go with Lauren?
