You can go to their website to trouble shoot:

If? Has it? Eh? Ugh, I'm getting a Mac next time...
Good Move.
Good Move.

1) PC Inspector decrapifier. Download and just follow instructions to get rid of useless crap you never use.
2) Control Panel add/remove programs. Get rid of more crap.
3) Go through documents and get rid of unwanted stuff inc. pics and music.
4) Download CCleaner and use Tools to get rid of more stuff. Use Reg. Cleaner to clean things up automatically. Also look at the cookie option and get rid of everything (unless you want the cookie for some reason).
5) Download Auslogic defrag. Run it. Its extremely fast.
6) Immediately afterwards run Ccleaner again.
7) Download Auslogic reg. cleaner. Run it. See the amazing speed improvement!!!
8) Repeat 5) 6) and 7) and everything was running smooth and fast.
It takes a while (but you can read while its happening). None of the programs requires more than ticking checkboxes, it doesn't require any kind of technie knowledge.
Fiona - if you look at the various options in OE I think you will find that something about connecting is checked when nothing should be checked about connecting since DSL handles all that.
I know this sounds long-winded and worthless but one of the computers was so bad it was replaced a year and a half ago (or maybe two years, I forget) with the other crap computer by my son. He replaced that second one two weeks ago and now these two old ones are great.

The long instructions before are extremely easy and aren't for viruses but for cleaning up slow running machines. I must admit looking at that post it looks impossible but you did ask for a techie (which I'm not) so I thought wanted that sort of thing.

:)

That is awesome that your Dad is 82.

Both my grandfathers are in their 80's one is 82 the other is 84. My parents are a bit younger.

FYI: my grandfather is 86 & he goes kayaking every chance he gets. In fact, he has more of a social life than I do. I love him so much! :)
Good luck with the computer issues. Computers are fun when they work, and totally annoying when they don't.
