The Giver question

I'm assuming Gabe is alive and well in the 3rd book in the new community in which Jonas and him had found by the end of The Giver.

I've only read Gathering Blue after The Giver. I never read The Messenger. But I think Lauren is right. It is Gabe who is referred to rather vaguely as living in the healing village at the end of Blue. I don't know if Jonas is ever referred to at all.
