What do you think of the death of Prim Everdeen?

message 2: by Lauren, Head Gamemaker (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lauren Gibson (laurengibson) | 3009 comments Mod
I personally found the death really, what's the word? For lack of better word amateur-ish. I just think, the author made Katniss Everdeen spend the good part of three books doing everything in her power to PROTECT her sister. I mean, Hunger Games, putting her name in the cup a ton for food, taking care of her, etc and then in less than one page Prim is dead... right at the end. So really all of Katniss struggles and the non-human protagonist and conflict and problem of the trilogy is gone by a BOMB. A BOMB! Not something huge and heroic. It's just kind of.... confusing.

Does that make sense? Are you getting that?

yes that makes sense.
sorta ;)

I was kind of rambling. I was also confused, baffled, and mad.

Didn't I comment on this before? It showed that something you can try so hard to protect, guard can die. In one instant. I don't think it was amateur-ish.

Hmmm, I hadn't looked at it that way... Interesting view. I see your point. You're right. Little hidden meaning Lauren didn't see. I'm not surprised. :)

Oh, thanks? See, I thought of things differently when I read MJ the first time. My mind was closed in. I thought of things as what they were. That is why I disliked it the 1st time I read it. Now, after 4 times, I understand why what happened happened. Everything was for a reason.

message 9: by Lauren, Head Gamemaker (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lauren Gibson (laurengibson) | 3009 comments Mod
Yes. That's the one thing I like about re-reading... ok, maybe the second thing I like, anyway, is because you understand things more the second or even third time and then you find things you had overlooked the first time.

Lea (Peeta's #1 Fangirl!) (3teofilea3) | 768 comments Mod
Exactly. I'm such a fast reader, I overlook things..I don't exactly predict or think about descions or anything. So it's better the 2nd time..but after that it's more like reliving memories.

message 11: by Lauren, Head Gamemaker (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lauren Gibson (laurengibson) | 3009 comments Mod
YES! I'm a fast reader too. I think though you find more things when the book is slow. It's funny some books I fly through while others it takes them a while. While at the same time it'll take me a week to read a certain book and for someone else a day.

Lea (Peeta's #1 Fangirl!) (3teofilea3) | 768 comments Mod
For me, I'll read a book in one day if it's really good. If it's slower, longer, or if I'm rereading it, it'll take me a bit longer.

message 13: by Lauren, Head Gamemaker (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lauren Gibson (laurengibson) | 3009 comments Mod
Yes. That's what happens to me most of the time. Like the book I'm currently reading... UGH. Good, but S...o.... s....l....o....w. I seriously find myself skimming because the author spends a lot of time rambling and I find that if I only read say, 2-3/5 paragraphs on the page I'm set for life where the story is concerned.

message 14: by Lea (Peeta's #1 Fangirl!), "It costs everything you are." (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lea (Peeta's #1 Fangirl!) (3teofilea3) | 768 comments Mod
Wowww...what book are you reading? I'll admit to skimming a bit.

message 15: by Lauren, Head Gamemaker (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lauren Gibson (laurengibson) | 3009 comments Mod
Seeing Red, Book Two in the Looking Glass Wars by Frank Beddor.

I have this really bad habit of before I shut the book for the night (I usually read before bed) I skim ahead (don't ask me how I started or why I do it) and usually I'll see something that catches my eye. A phrase a word (usually a certain characters name... usual the main male character...) and I'll start reading and I"ll end up reading like 20-30 pages (yes so much for going to bed early) and usually those 20-30 pages are at least 20-30 pages from where I truly am. So then I have to read in between those pages and it's usually drab and boring. It's bad.

Lea (Peeta's #1 Fangirl!) (3teofilea3) | 768 comments Mod
wowww....For me, I usually just read and read and read...so by then I've finished the book and it's 3:30..Then a few months later I'll reread it and see what I've missed. It gets pretty bad sometimes. When I read The Hunger Games I convinced myself that I had to finish it before I went to bed because otherwise I wouldn't be able to go to sleep since I would be wondering how everything turned out :)

Man, during Christmas Break I read thirteen books and did not catch up on the missed sleep from the school days. I seriously went to bed at 10:00 and read till 1:00/2:00 EVERY SINGLE NIGHT.

It's funny my mom said, "Lauren, it's not that you're a fast reader it's that you NEVER STOP READING."

haha..13 books!! I like it savour it sometimes..I take breaks between reading books. I like to think about it. Soooo..for me, I gobble the book up..then wait a week before reading another, if it has an influential message.

See I would've done that but I was competing against my uncle to see who could get 100 books by 2012 fastest. I won. And I brought him into eternal shame. Best. Day. Ever.

I wonder how well Prim would've done in the Hunger Games had Katniss not stepped up to take her place. Your thoughts?

Lea (Peeta's #1 Fangirl!) (3teofilea3) | 768 comments Mod
All right. She never really had to survive or anything. Katniss did that for her. She is really good at healing though. I suspect she died in the bloodbath, or soon after. What do you think?

message 29: by Lauren, Head Gamemaker (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lauren Gibson (laurengibson) | 3009 comments Mod
I think she'd die pretty quickly. She doesn't have much knowledge or strength.

She did have knowledge..in the healing, edible plants part.

Yes, in those areas. But those areas wouldn't have helped her survive very long. She could've been like Annie and hid for the whole time.

Exactly why I wouldn't want to go into Hunger Games. Like what Peeta said. He wouldn't want to die a murderer or win a murderer. Peeta... did he ever kill anybody?

He did..Foxface(indirectly), that girl he "finished off"...Then he killed someone in CF..It was either Chaff or someone else..Then he killed Mitchell in MJ.and almost Katniss.

I know. I'm just slightly defending him. And using what I'm pretty sure happened.

I'm going to have to start playing the "Real or Not Real" game to see if I missed anything in the book!

I think that it waa almost necissary to kill off a couple main charcters because then you never know what is going to happen. Although she did kill off quite a few. Prim, Finnick, Cinna, she gets rid of katniss' mom and gale peeta almost dies we dont know what happens to johanna

message 47: by Lauren, Head Gamemaker (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lauren Gibson (laurengibson) | 3009 comments Mod
I think that's sadly what makes a good book. I mean if all the characters stay alive it's almost taking away from the little bit of reality. Nothing's always "Happily Ever After"

Nya Tomlinson-Horan-Malik-Payne-Styles prim's death was very sad. and it was all because of coin (partially gale, because it was his bomb). but, i think that coin committed first degree murder. she needed something that could show katniss that she was in charge, but coin didnt want to reveal her craziness. as a result, she used gale's bomb, dropped by a capitol hovercraft, which killed primrose.
