Jason Ward (thewordofward) | 9 comments Hi everyone,

I'm a journalist and also write two websites. One is a general review site (which reviews books as well) called www.thewordofward.co.uk. The other is a Science Fiction website (which also reviews books).

In addition I have an eBook on Amazon called The Uneven Passage of Time. It is free for the 13th and 14th of January but will then rocket back up to 77p (or the US equivalent).

Here's the blurb:
Time, famously, is relative. In this trio of short stories journalist and fiction writer Jason R. Ward looks at three individuals and their unorthodox journeys through time. These entertaining tales blend the themes of psychology and perception with classic science fiction.

Stephen Hawking once sent out dinner invitations to all future time travellers. No one turned up. But what if one had? In ‘A Date to Remember’ a young physicist is convinced he has worked out the secret to building a time travel device. Lacking the resources to construct the machine he sets a time and date for a meeting with his future self.

It is a truism that people remember the big events in life and forget the repetitive. For most people, their year skips by unnoticed, punctuated by birthdays, world events, big personal milestones or traumatic events. As you age life seems to speed up and you find that the years seem to fly past. ‘As Time Goes By’ is the story of Frank Gilbert who is experiencing this to the extreme. His time seems to be accelerating at an abnormal rate. Years of his repetitive life seem to go by in days. Can he break the cycle in time?

The final and longest short story is ‘The Man Who Loved Statues’. Captain Michael Pike is a man who has taken a bit of hammering in life. With nothing much to live for he volunteers for an experiment that is going to attempt to alter his passage through time and put him in stasis. Things don’t go quite according to plan.

For the UK:

I just want a few more people to read it and possibly even review it. Journalism is boring me and I want to write fiction full time! Selfish, I know.

Good luck everyone!
Cheers, Jason

Stuart Ayris (stuayris) | 2614 comments Nothing selfish about wanting to write fiction, Jason! New here myself, so welcome!!

Jason Ward (thewordofward) | 9 comments Thank you both. I felt a bit bad introducing myself, then following that up with a massive bit of self promotion. My eBook is only free today and tomorrow, so it's vaguely justified.
I love writing fiction and reading, so I obviously like this site. I don't mind writing for magazines either but you always have to conform to the 'house style' which can feel a bit stifling.
Anyway, thanks.
Jason

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Author threads here are intended for self promotion Jason, so don't worry about that. Welcome to our world!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Yep, as Ignite said. We want to hear about books here.

Big welcome, Jason.

Jason Ward (thewordofward) | 9 comments Thank you all. I feel less guilty now. Especially as my first promotion day draws to a close and it is currently #3 in the short stories section in the UK and in the top 200 overall.
It has gone a lot better than I thought! My main aim was to introduce my fiction to people who would otherwise never had heard of me.
It still feels a bit weird promoting myself as I am used to writing for magazines (where others do it for you) but I am getting over that quickly.
Thanks again and good luck with all your endeavours.
Cheers,
Jason

Stuart Ayris (stuayris) | 2614 comments I know what you mean about the whole 'self-promotion' thing Jason - it does certainly feel odd! You seem to be doing fantastic!! Keep going!!

Stu

Jason Ward (thewordofward) | 9 comments Thanks Stu! Giving the stories away for free is odd too but today is the last day. Although I still have three promotion days left... Yesterday went very well though and at least a lot of people now have a copy.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Well, just don't ever feel awkward about promoting your stuff here in your author thread, Jason. That is what it's for. Or anything else you care to talk about.
Think of your thread as your home in our group.
Just be careful of the author thread parties we sometimes have. We leave terrible messes. Not me, of course. I never ruin curtains or carpets. ;)

Jason Ward (thewordofward) | 9 comments I'm English, Irish, Australian, and a writer. If you believe in the stereotypes of any of those, then that means I like a drink and a party! Obviously stereotyping should be avoided because it can lead to bigotry and in literature, cliche and lack of depth.
So it's just a massive coincidence that I love a good party! Trash the place all you want Patti.
Only a few hours left of my book being free. Over 400 downloaded in two days. It would be great if that continued! Not holding my breath though.

Hi Jason,

Your stories sound really interesting. I will take a look at them.

message 15: by Jason (new)

Jason Ward (thewordofward) | 9 comments Hope you enjoy them Will. Each of the three are a bit different. I hope you will like at least one!
Jud, that's cool. Maybe Amazon have decided to just force them onto everyone's kindle. A new feature of the Select programme they forgot to mention.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments No doubt it is due to my one-click-itis. I'm so ashamed of my habit.
