Stuart Ayris (stuayris) | 2614 comments I agree - he does have the wrong accent. I do believe this book may not be helping me in the real world. But that's ok!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Real world? Which one is the real world?

the lesser one

or is it the other way round? Bugger.

Anyway, at the moment the world of Edward Jarvis Huggins is entirely consuming me - and I rather like it.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments The real world is whichever one that you have most of yourself invested in.

Lynda Wilcox (lyndawrites) | 1059 comments Nice to see you're doing so well, young Stuart.

As an experiment I tried writing the other evening (because himself was upstairs) while drinking a glass of wine.

Oh boy! Deleted the lot the next morning. lol :)

message 1159: by Stuart (new)

Stuart Ayris (stuayris) | 2614 comments Thanks Lynda! The trick is to also read it when you've had some wine - then it will make perfect sense, you will love it, publish it and carry on drinking wine - works for me!

David Haynes | 844 comments Good to see its coming along well, Stu. When are you aiming to finish? The first two lines of the blurb sold it to me.

Stuart Ayris (stuayris) | 2614 comments Cheers mate. Hope to have it out by end of August the way it's going but who knows what will happen in my wayward life between now and then?!

Stuart Ayris (stuayris) | 2614 comments I've just added a post to my blog entitled "My Writing Process" - please follow the link if you're interested...

Then it's a case of going back to the beginning and adding colour and shade. So looking good now for an August 2014 release!

message 1170: by Stuart (new)

Stuart Ayris (stuayris) | 2614 comments Thank you! The boy is from a little know Joshua Reynolds painting. When I saw it I knew he was little Edward Jarvis Huggins! He has that odd look about him too - one of confusion and impending greatness!

message 1171: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Or greatness and impending confusion? ;)

message 1176: by Stuart (new)

Stuart Ayris (stuayris) | 2614 comments Thanks Debbie! Almost 65,000 words written. Will have the final chapter finished by the end of this week and the second draft completed by the end of May at the very latest. Looking to be something around 80,000 in total which would make it my longest novel to date. With the cover already completed looks like all could be ready before August!

message 1177: by Debbie (new)

Debbie McGowan (debbiemcgowan) | 245 comments Good stuff! I thought Frugality 1 was around that length too.

message 1178: by Stuart (new)

Stuart Ayris (stuayris) | 2614 comments They were all nearly exactly 75,000. Done a few more words in the car on the way back from darts just now in between pissing in a field and staring at the stars before being shouted at by my wife for spilling kronenberg on the front seat. Ah the harsh life of an author...

Stuart Ayris (stuayris) | 2614 comments Just completed the first draft of The Magical Tragical Life of Edward Jarvis Huggins! Hurrah! Now time to go through it a couple of times before sending it to a couple of people who know how to spell, then it's done!

How can she tell? ;)

message 1188: by Stuart (new)

Stuart Ayris (stuayris) | 2614 comments some of them will be VERY obvious - just not to me!!!

Came in at around 75,000 words in the end, which I'm very pleased with. The ebook could be good to go within the next ten days or so!

message 1189: by Stuart (new)

Stuart Ayris (stuayris) | 2614 comments With The Magical Tragical Life of Edward Jarvis Huggins now out to beta readers, I have begun my next book. It's the second part of my travel trilogy (The Buddhas of Borneo being the first) and it is called Basel Days. I am 1,500 words in and have most of it sorted in my head. The final book in the trilogy will be called Salounacy. I hope to have Basel Days finished by November and ready for a Christmas release, with Salounacy being available by next Spring. The way I have been going though, those dates could well be brought forward - I had Edward Jarvis Huggins set for October initially!

LOL. Yes, boss! ;)

I'm just marking the last of today's batch of essays, then need to finish typesetting, then finish beta-ing a short story, and then it's Edward's turn! So, probably tomorrow.

message 1197: by Stuart (new)

Stuart Ayris (stuayris) | 2614 comments With The Magical Tragical Life of Edward Jarvis Huggins so close to being released, here is the blurb:

"Edward Jarvis Huggins is a ten year old boy brought up in a shack in eighteenth century England, his father an alcoholic, his mother dead.

Fleeing their father, Edward and his sister find themselves in Kent, on a farm peopled by other restless souls who have arrived at that same place over the previous ten years for reasons unknown to them.

Edward is convinced that he is the re-incarnation of Jesus, the returning Messiah, the son of God. Could it be that he has been sent to earth to save mankind or is he just a troubled little boy who talks to the moon and the stars?"
