Then, I saw this and my life was made!!!!! By far The Book Thief is the best book ever- it has literally everything you could ever want from a book, and I can admit that I also was crying by the end. It's one of those powerful books that you will never be able to forget- I can guarantee that it will stick with you for the rest of your life.
The Giver had the weirdest ending EVER but read the sequels and it adds up to EPICNESS! (is that a WORD??)

I can't say it's exactly my favorite, but it was my first dystopia, so I say it's my favorite. Does that make sense? :)

Both are beautifully told stories.
I would recommend giving Patti Larsen's Family Magic a try. Although it has been a while since I have read it, I remember that her depiction of teen angst, trying to find oneself, trying to fit in, and her approach to relationships was close to how I remembered, which endeared me to her main character. What made it exciting were the unique challenges her lead character faces...struggling with how her coven views her, being at war with her own magic, her unique parentage, and how these affect her views, attitude, and everyday struggles. Family Magic introduces us to Sydlynn and if you follow the series, you get to enjoy growing with her, her many adventures, introduction to various planes and magical beings. I don't usually enjoy being sucked into a series simply because of the interminable wait between installments, but following Patti Larsen has been a treat. She manages to churn out a quality installment almost monthly (if not more frequently), meaning I don't have to wait, lose interest, forget what's happened, etc. She also frequently reaches out to her followers through her Facebook page and has a great attitude and approach to her writing and fans. Her ability to produce work and her outstanding attitude endear her to me and make her work mean that much more to me. So really, I'm recommending pretty much anything she writes, specifically the Hayle Coven Series.
And as a side note, although I enjoyed this book, I love the series more. It is the series that makes this book a favorite, so I recommend giving it a shot. As a completely shameless plug to get you interested, if you buy your books on your Kindle, it's now available for 99 cents... Not a bad investment if you get to discover a new author and new adventures.

I never really got into Code Name because I wasn't reading at the right time for myself. One of these days I have to pick it up again.

I'm waiting to read that one until I can really enjoy it, too.

And I was looking at The Fault in Our Stars and it just isn't my type of book- I feel like it's just trying way too hard to be unnecessarily sad. I have only heard good reviews of it, but I'm still not gonna get it...

I loved the giver! I have not read any of the sequels yet since I heard they weren't very good but one of these days I will finally read them.

I wasn't a huge fan of book 2 or book 3, but book #4 was absolutely brilliant in the way it tied the whole series together.

One of my new favorite authors is Andrew Smith, his books: Winger, Grasshopper Jungle and 100 Sideway Miles are absolutely perfect.

I can't wait to read Winger and Grasshopper Jungle. I haven't heard about 100 Sideway Miles. I'll have it to check it out.

I'd recommend the Mortal Instrument series City of Bones, City of Glass, City of Ashes, City of Fallen Angels, City of Lost Souls, City of Heavenly Fire and/or the Infernal Devices Clockwork Angel, Clockwork Prince, Clockwork Princess especially for those who enjoy urban sci-fi fantasy, paranormal novels, and romance with a sarcastic, sassy male that seems to be very slick, calm, etc. I absolutely loved these! Can't wait for the next series, The Dark Artifices.

You need to read Ender's Shadow though- same story but through the eyes of Bean. Great book!
