Am I the only one who continued to stay disgusted with Wanda and the aliens?

I hated wanda the ENTIRE time, and i thought she was so selfish.

Dee I thought it was wrong for the souls to do that to the humans. But no I loved Wanda, and how was she selfish? She decided to tell them how to remove the souls without killing it, or the host (even though she was basically going against her own race). Then she had Doc take her out of Melanie, against Melanie's protests, and she wanted him to bury her on Earth because she no longer wanted to be a parasite, even on another planet. Not to mention she went to find Jared and Jamie for Melanie (even if she had feelings for them too). Plus she stole medicine from a hospital to save Jamie's life, AND she stayed with Walter the entire time he was dying, convinced everyone not to banish Kyle even after he almost killed her, didn't kill the seeker instead took her soul out and sent her somewhere else. But yet she's selfish? Just my opinion.

Rachel I hated wanda for one. everybody i know just loved the book but i felt so bad for melanie and just couldnt stand wanda. i actually wanted something to happen to her in the end.

I agree =)

Ferdy OMG.. finally someone else that hated Wanda..I hated at the end when it's mentioned that Jared still had feelings for Wanda.. but Ian was completely devoted to Wanda.. poor Melanie and then it was also said that Melanie's little brother wouldn't know how to choose between Melanie and Wanda.. WTF?! Everyone just loved Wanda at the end..ugh!

Marta Szemik The Host is one of my favorite books (although it's been over two years since I read it) What I loved about Wanda and Melanie is that as a reader you can go through so many emotions for the characters. I didn't like Wanda in the beginning, but as the story continued she seemed to have more virtues than many humans have.

Lol, I couldn't care for her either. I wanted her to be gone. AND they freaking enslaved another human being so she could stay with them. WTF! Besides, I couldn't get over the fact that she was a WORM!

Although I read The Host some time ago, I really did enjoy it, and although I was repulsed at first at the invaders took humans against their will, in my opinion it was no worse than the atrosities that we force on each other in the world we live. The elimination of war, violence, and starvation! Everyone working together in harmony...That doesn't sound so bad.

As for whether I stay disgusted with Wanda....not at all, she learned so much from the "wild" humans she lived with that in the end, I felt she had more integrity and heart, than some of the humans.

I had thought the book would end differently myself...

Kirby no, I resented her at the beginning, after they'd given a little bit of mel's back story, and I was pissed when she sent that e-mail to the seeker- but, by the end I loved her more than mel! I also really thought she was dead at the end, so I was happy that they found her a new body (which, unless I'm mistaken, would either have been used by another alien or been wasted- it's not like they "kicked out" a human for wanda).

In the book after they took the souls out they waited to see if the humans soul would come back. Sometimes they came back, sometimes they didn't. The human in Wanda's new body never came back, if she did they weren't going to put her in it. So the human wasn't enslaved at the end, she was gone (not that it makes it any better). But if I remember correctly that was one of the first things they told Wanda when she came to.

moonlightfairyprincess I couldn't finish this book becasue I disliked Wanda and the aliens so much. The idea and the concept of what was happening was too infuriating! I ended up thumbing through to get the high points but ultimately, after 120 or so pages, decided this book wasn't worth my time. It's one of very few books that I have abandoned and left unfinished.

M. Well, I don't care if the aliens created an utopia. They took away the humans free will and that is wrong. Period. And what good was an utopia for us anyways when you are no longer there to enjoy it?

Wonderfully put.. I couldn't agree more!

Exactly what I disliked. And in what real world would the people who cared about you and loved you pick an alien that invaded your body over you? I get that Wanda has some character development and that's all fine and good, but Wanda to start with had no appealing characteristics for me.

Sharmaine Isidro I hope the host will be a movie
