Libraries vs. Bookstores

I will go to a library, but I prefer bookstores. My library never has anything good, and I always have to go online and order books to be sent to my library. I spent so much time online renting books I figured I'd might as well buy them!! So that's why I prefer bookstores because I can sit there and read and beg long enough that my parents buy the books I want. (: *devious chuckle*
My library is pretty huge. They keep up on what's popular and new releases. However, they have this dumb rule, where if a book is older than 4 years, they won't purchase it, unless it's super popular.
There's also the fact that I have pretty much no money to buy books, so I'm stuck using libraries. The main thing I hate about libraries is when you want to check out a book, but it's "lost". In other words, stolen. I wanted to read the biograpy of Tool (metal band), but all three copies are "lost". >:( Stupid, inconsiderate, selfish people. Okay, I'm sure some are ligitimately lost, but most are stolen.
Most likely all are stolen just saying stupid, inconsiderate, selfish people are infectious and attract followers
It's pretty pathetic if you have to steal from the library.

I'm partial to both. I check out books from the library to see whether or not I like them, and if I liked them enough I'll buy them."
You sound like me :)

The only annoying thing about my library district is that they classify copies of manga and paperbacks as "Unknown Title-Paperback" and you can't search for those on the catalog. If you want those, you have to find them at the library yourself--and they do have tons and tons of good manga and paperbacks but you can't find them unless you see them with your own eyes.
And the "unknown" paperbacks can get stolen this way too =_= which goes back to what Wednesday was saying about "lost" books.
That's a dumb way to catergorize manga. Mine classifies them as either "graphic novel" or "teen graphic novel" and then by title and volume. Makes a lot more sense. Of course, they still get stolen even when they're well organized. My library used to have all 15 volumes of Let Dai. Now they only have 2. :(

And it's not like we can travel every library in the district to find these series.........siiiiiigh.
I think that you should go tell the library about the stolen books and convince them by saying that this makes them lose money. They'll probably try to improve the security to save money. My library has this security system where there's this microchip card in the book and every time you check out, it will demagnify the card.
The thing is the "unknown" paperbacks don't have these microcards so they're the ones who get stolen. =_=
Manga is just as important as novels. >_<

I have to admit that I don't have a lot of money to spend on books. I end up spending it on candy and such. :P
BUT if I really, really, really like a book from the library, I will probably buy it from bookstores.

My library is stupid. -_- I ordered volumes 1-7 of Land of Silver Rain, so they purchased 1,2,3,5,6,7. What happened to 4?

Got 11 books from the library today. Happiness (: After not reading for like three days straight *shudder* I'm excited. :D

I totally agree with you! :)
I love big libraries....I always feel like I can get lost in them and I absolutely love the peacefulness. (:

haha same.

The only time when I enjoy getting lost.. LOL
Unfortunately, my library isn't too peaceful. All the high school students decided that it is their new hang out place. Needless to say, they're pretty loud. My bedroom is quieter (when my sister isn't practicing drums). And yes, my library likes to make my life complicated. :/

Same here, any of the libraries around me (there is a system of libraries that once you get a card to one you have access to all) are all super quiet.
