What entices you to read a book? Cover? Reviews? Ratings? What pulls you into a book??

message 2: by Irene (new)

Irene (wingdesilverii) The tittle, if it sounds good I'll pick it up. Sometimes the cover grabs me but it has to be very flashy and my kind of book. Reviews and ratings aren't much good to me unless I know the person and what they like.

Morgan (morgzsydney) | 63 comments I usually pick my books from series and authors I like, recommendations and goodreads reviews.

Endearing characters and suspense pull me into books. Also a strong shock factor helps.

I think the cover is what grabs me first then it's the excerpts then ratings and some reviews. Some people's bad reviews encourage me to read the book more especially if the review is ridiculous to me. Just so I can agrue back in a nice way (=

Adriana Cover mostly. Reviews help a lot. Ratings make me wonder but they don't make me choose not to read it. I have to read it and make my own chose. They influence me only a little. What makes me really want to read a book is mostly the summary.

Last line. Or the cover. Or the sample. Or a recommendation...

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

I read books for several reasons: title, cover, reviews, popularity, recommendations, genre. Most of the time I go for cover, title, or genre. I picked up The Street of a Thousand Blossoms by Gail Tsukiyama because it has cherry blossoms on the front cover, and it is now one of my favorite books. I've read it twice so far.

message 9: by Adriana (new)

Adriana You look at the last line? I know friends that do that..I argue at them for like 10 minutes straight.

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

It's wierd, but all my fav books have amazing last lines...so i go by that. :)

message 11: by Adriana (new)

Adriana I understand but you might ruin the whole book that way!

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

True, true....still, I end up reading the whole last page then haha

Haha sometimes when I'm reading I'll flip to the middle and read a line or two. I feel so naughty afterwards like I just stole candy from the candy store :/

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

I did that once with Shadow Kiss by Richelle Mead. I read the last page, which had a surprising twist to it. Needless to say, I had to find out what happened. I couldn't put the book down!

Adriana tsk tsk tsk. you guys!

message 17: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ | 102 comments If it sounds good and if it has good reviews, usually. Or of course, if it's by an author I like. :)

message 18: by Marybeth (new)

Marybeth (narutofan14) If the book sounds good and the cover of that book is good then i will get it. I sometimes have to read the first chapter if i am unsure about it but i usually go for the cover and summary.

message 19: by Natalie (new)

Natalie (flyingmonkey22) | 10 comments I sometimes randomly pick up books read the blurb if it sounds good will try it. Or a lot of the times recommendations but I'am a sucker for pretty shiny covers.

message 20: by Ayesha (new)

Ayesha | 11 comments the very first thing in a book which attracts me to pick it is its title, because the title mostly defines about what the book would be and if I feel title has some connection with my scenario or its my type of book I do take it at any cost.

message 21: by Ayesha (new)

Ayesha | 11 comments After that reviews and ratings come, but most of times i do judge the choice of book would be good without going through reviews and its always a nice book which i pick randomly, only keeping title or recommendation of best friend, who knows my choice :)
