Weird, Terri. Weird people. Hey I hope he finds his rest, whatever that needs to be for him.

That's bizarre, Terri. Glad you guys are okay....physically anyway. That kind of thing would definitely rattle me mentally.

Thanks Dawn!
We always did think that old cottage was haunted. We wondered if 'the old woman' scared him off. :)We definitely won't be letting anybody live in the old worker's cottage now. We are spooked forever by this experience.

I said to hubby today that i don't think that guy is ever going to be at rest and i kind of feel sorry for him. Obviously I am glad he is gone, but I kind of feel sad that this is what life holds for him.
He had a chance to have a good life living here on our farm. We are kind people and would have been good to him. I was already working out what furniture and 'extras' I could put in the house for him, so that it would be more homey.
He said he had grown up on a farm and our farm reminded him of his childhood home (he was 41 years old). He had been homeless for a long time. relying on family and freinds to give him somewhere to sleep.
his brother was giving him some work.
I think he was a troubled man and he thought our place might have helped him cure his demons.
Two nights on his own up in the old house, he must have found that even here he couldn't escape his demons.
Kind of sad....but a BIG relief that he is gone!!
he left the house in a huge mess with all the lime everywhere it will take a lot of work for us to clean it up, but I still find myself wishing him well. And that one day, as Bryn says, he finds his rest.
It's sad Terri. You were trying to do something nice for someone and that rarely goes unrewarded in the cycle of things I think, or hope at least. But for some people it isn't enough, because they need more than mere kindness. We have a poor track record for helping those with mental illness, and I suspect we, as a country, are not alone there. I don't know what the answer is but you did what you could, and it's probably for the best he has moved on. :)
Good on you, Terri...for wishing him well, despite the trouble he caused.
I've experienced homelessness & relying on friends for a roof to sleep under, so I hope he finds some kind of peace in his life.
I do all that I can, to this day, to pay back the people that helped me when I was in that situation..so I can't say that I understand his motivation for causing ya'll trouble...but I wish him well myself. I've been there.

You, as a country, are definitely not alone there. I can't imagine that there's a country that ignores mental health more than the U.S.

Terri, Wow, just Wow
On a lighter note - all the library books I've requested have come in - I now have 14 books on the night stand. I guess that is one nice thing about having a librarian for a spouce :)
I think I'll have to return some of them and recheck them out at later date :(

Aside from that good on you for not giving up. Sometimes it's just hard to get back up when you fall down. Hats off to you! :))
@ happy?? Really!, lucky you!

just watched that - awesome thanks
@Lisa. Those things are equally worse.
I did get back up, but the fact that I was in that situation was all my own fault. I spent the whole decade of the 90's screwing up. I'm still trying to dig myself out of the hole that I dug for myself. But..it humbled me & I think I'm a better person because of it. I used to know it all...now I know nothing, and that suits me much better.:)
@happy. You're spouse is a librarian? Oh man...I'm so jealous. You're a lucky man, happy.:)

Love your honesty Derek!!! Onwards and upwards....:)))Hey I was in a new book shop of the weekend, the first thing I didi when I walked in : deeeeeep breath, hahaha, sniffing out the books. Even turned to Chris and said can you smell that, can you?? Haha. I know : freak. Lol

You are not alone. I too spent the better part of the 90's screwing up. :) Sometimes I am astounded that I am the same person. The 90's for me were like a blitzkrieg of screw ups..

That's the one thing that I don't like about relying on libraries for books...when you reserve or/and inter library loan the darn things all come in at once!
I think Goodreads' advertising partners ad programs think I am a male.Having done a factory reset on my new laptop when it was playing up last week, I haven't gotten around to installing Firefox's adblocker yet so I am getting ads.
The ads i have been getting on GR are 'male only gamers' ads, with scantily clad animation women trying to lure me into joining in...
@ Terri, is there something your not telling us?Hope all our UK friends are doing ok. Looks like a wild storm.

that us a problem, but you can't beat the price :)
My public library charges $4.00 to mail back ILLs. I understand, because it IS hurting for money, and I can get free ILLs from the community college where I was a librarian, but so far, I haven't needed ILLs.

It missed me here in the northeast, but I feel so sorry for the families who have lost loved ones.

I was getting those ones too. Must be genetically engineered women as I'm pretty sure those tiny bits of cloth are not enough to hold up those triple D's. ;)

I don't think they think you're male...I get the same bloody ads.
So what do libraries do with dust jackets? Thought provoked by the arrival of The Odyssey: A Modern Sequel. Which has a couple of ghastly covers, I made sure mine was this handsome one:
but it's harback ex-library and I forgot they ditch the covers. Weep.
My library doesn't ditch the dust jackets. They cover them with non-sticky clear plastic and carefully tape them onto the book.
Oh I wish the Dowagiac Public Library had.I feel pretty shallow that this is my first thought on getting my book. How about the contents, Bryn? But I did fancy that cover.

If I reserve, I do so over the weekend online; any books come in by the next Tues. or Wed. Then I usually pick them up Wed. evening or possibly Thurs.

Been ok here in North Sussex. But elsewhere in the county i think its been bad
I have to say, you all are the nicest group ever. Most I am on are full of counts, pardon my French.
Dawn wrote: ".I was getting those ones too. Must be genetically engineered women as I'm pretty sure those tiny bits of cloth are not enough to hold up those triple D's. ;) ."haha! Maybe they use that double sided tape. ;)
are you saying that this group should be an example for other groups? I tried looking up what you said and that's the best I can come up with:p

I am sorry everyone for using foul language lol I sometimes let my lil fingers get ahead of me sometimes lol. Again I am sorry and for anyone I offended please accept my apologies! :)

Clearly she meant Counts as in Dracula. Meaning they're a bunch of blood suckers. :P
Thanks for being good sports you all. I am a member of a few groups that would have had my butt for that lol.
