Thought we were talking about Curious George (né Charles)
:)

Jane | 3480 comments That's Chicken Little's personal name, didn't you know? :)

message 3404: by Geoffrey (new)

Geoffrey (newprestonhill) | 53 comments So Prince Chicken Little becomes King Curious George?

message 3407: by Jane (new)

Jane | 3480 comments Why not? Carroll=Carolus=Charles. :)

Well said!
This nom de plume / nom de roi stuff is giving me a headache.

Irish...

message 3410: by Geoffrey (new)

Geoffrey (newprestonhill) | 53 comments Damn Fenians!

message 3411: by Tim (new)

Tim Hodkinson (timhodkinson) | 577 comments Thats actually disingenuous so I should apologise. I'm Irish but from the tribe in the north who constantly protest their loyalism to the Windsors and their progeny so I feel slightly fraudulent int the this cynicism because I know loads of people back home -family members included-who are delighted at the royal baby.
All the best to them.

message 3412: by Tim (new)

Tim Hodkinson (timhodkinson) | 577 comments should have called him Tim though

message 3413: by Geoffrey (new)

message 3414: by Geoffrey (new)

Geoffrey (newprestonhill) | 53 comments But yeah: Tim Chad Roger Clive Windsor

Long Live King Tim

message 3415: by Geoffrey (new)

Geoffrey (newprestonhill) | 53 comments King Tim... sounds like something from the Jungle Book. The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling

Or maybe a Conrad novel?
Lord Jim by Joseph Conrad

I'm partial to the name George. I had an English Bulldog named King George who sadly passed away about a year ago. Coolest dog I've ever been around.

My point exactly, Terri. I do review lots of books but no where in the category of those who read so much more.

message 3418: by [deleted user] (new)

You're the man, Bobby. I wish I could be a one percenter :)

message 3419: by Jane (new)

I did too, was it a glitch? :)
Oh yeah? I said.

message 3421: by Linda (new)

Linda (ladylawyer8650) | 1702 comments I got the same message from Goodreads.

Georgie Porgie
Puddin' and pie
Kissed the girls
And made them cry.

Our royal child will be a lover and heartbreaker. Who can finish that line?

message 3424: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Turns out I am a 1%er too. So it is different to the 'Top whatever stats' on our profiles.

Guess that outs me in the top 200,000 reviewers (did I get my zeros right?)
20 million members...10% is 2 million, 1% is 200,000.

I bet that reveals that around 200,000 members are the most active users, but then, it is top 1% of reviewers isn't it? That doesn't mean raters too?? All the people that mostly rate but not review.
*scratches head*

message 3425: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) Where does this 1%er stuff show up?? I don't see it on your profiles.

message 3426: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments No it doesn't show up. It comes in a Congratulatory email.

message 3427: by Bryn (new)

Bryn Hammond (brynhammond) | 1505 comments I thought it had to do with 'likes' and so on, not just numbers? May have made that up.

message 3428: by Bryn (new)

Bryn Hammond (brynhammond) | 1505 comments I make a lot of things up.

message 3429: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Hehe. Well, made up or not, maybe you have something there. It seems odd to me that Dawn would not be a 1%er too. Unless she missed her email. :-)

Geoffrey (newprestonhill) | 53 comments Jane wrote: "I'm just getting up; good morning, all. Enjoyed reading your reparteé!"

Seemed like you had repartee for two.

message 3431: by Jane (new)

Jane | 3480 comments Groan! :) Nope, morning coffee.

message 3432: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) Oh, an email. Well, now I'm insulted that I didn't get one!! ;)

I would think Bryn would be right though. As in top 1% of reviewers by popular vote, or likes, in this case.

message 3433: by Bryn (new)

Bryn Hammond (brynhammond) | 1505 comments We can send you congratulations, Dawn. :D We think you are.

I was led to that by it saying "your many thoughtful book reviews..."

Terri | 19576 comments Oh look, they seem to have sent yours to me Dawn. How silly of them to send yours to my email address. Here it is.

-----------------------------------------------------

On behalf of the Goodreads team, I want to say thank you, Terri Dawn. You’re in the top 1% of reviewers on Goodreads! Your many thoughtful book reviews help make us a vibrant place for book lovers.

And our community has been growing! We now number more than 20 million members on Goodreads.

Every day readers from all over the world are connecting over a love of books. And our 25 million reviews – including yours – are a big part of that conversation.

Thank you for your support of Goodreads, and keep reading! I’m looking forward to seeing what you think of your next book!

Terri | 19576 comments Well I went to a Bull Sale today. (Did not buy a bull).
Then I had a neighbour come over and stick his arm down the back end of one of my cows and pop some cysts on her ovaries...what did you all do today? :D

message 3439: by Nate (new)

Nate | 416 comments It's not nearly as interesting as what you did, but I went new-book-shopping!

My haul:

In the Shadow of the Sword: The Birth of Islam and the Rise of the Global Arab Empire

Under the Eagle

Sharpe's Prey

That sweet new book smell...mmm.

Flew to Denver and had to put up with a lot of bull-sh** but I didn't buy any. Cysts on cow ovaries?? Can't even begin to compete with that statement.

I hope you left it by choice, and I wish you that the next one will be fabolous. Cake can sweeten all kinds of goodbyes.

Darcy (drokka) | 2675 comments Oh, and on the question of why Prince Charles would change his name to George: The Queen Mum said when he was born, something to the effect that no King Charles ever had a good reign in the British Isles. Perhaps, he was influenced by this statement.

message 3449: by [deleted user] (last edited Jul 27, 2013 07:39AM) (new)

Good Darcy! I mean good that you are OK. Computer problems are a pain in the rear.

Well, Charles I was executed and Charles II was a crypto-Catholic. So maybe she had a point :)
