I've read his Sherwood and Robin and the King which I enjoyed (Robin Hood stories set in post conquest England). I haven't seen an obituary yet, but have asked his friend Persia Woolley to write one for us - I'll link when we have it.
That's too bad - I enjoyed his books also not only Sherwood and Robin... and this one also
about the King Harold and the Norman Invasion

Really? Oh. What a shame. Another loss to the book loving community.
I always wanted to try Firelord and wanted to put his Sherwood up as group read only it isn't easy to track down around the world.

Guys, meaning no disrespect for the good people who left us, this is starting to seem like a conversation between octuagenarians: "You heard about John? He died." "NO! He was 87...so young. And Bob? His heart, you know.." "For Jack, cancer! Let me tell you what happened during his surgery..."

I was think something along this line myself.
A. It like the scene in the Woody Allen movie Annie Hall. There is a double screen of their respective families eating dinner and the conversation at the home of woody Allen's family revolves around who is ill. Or died. It was hilarious
Lol!Well...you know...we can't control when the literary community loses authors and if they go around the same time, we kind of end up mentioning them at the same time.
The dude from Sopranos. I just threw that one in because it was a shocker. I would have mentioned that whether we had lost authors this week or not. :-)
Okay, I know how to change the subject! The bloody motor in our vehicle seized this morning. A 5 year old ute/pickup and BAM! Hubby is driving along and the vehicle comes to a stop. Engine seizes and dies.
So..it appears we aren't finished announcing deaths just yet!
Our ute is dead and nothing short of a big bank cheque and a completely new motor will make it live.
Not a good day. But I feel better sharing my pain. :]
very, very bad...a very, very bad thing has happened to our beloved ute. :(Luckily hubby landed a job recently that comes with a car. Only he doesn't start for a couple weeks. No car for a few more weeks.
We both have parents with spare cars to get us by and get hubby to and from his current job until the new job starts.
As for the ute...he is going to have to sit in our garage until we can afford $12,000 (about the same in USD) which will be a long time off. Not sure how we are ever going to come up with the money. have to think about taking out a personal loan. *le sigh*
Anybody else had to replace an engine?
Fantasy fans will be delighted to hear that Locke and Key will be made into a movie (written by Joe Hill - Stephen King's son - and Gabriel Rodriguez)http://au.ign.com/articles/2013/06/21...
These are some of those grpahic novels...

I once had to replace an engine, after a crash.
Yes the insurance covered it. I think. It was 25 years ago. Sorry about your seizing engine - always annoying when mechanical things go wrong. You can reason with a person who is being difficult; or failing that scream at them. Or just hit them. But with an engine....not much you can do but pay. As you say - :(
Ain't that the truth. Can't put it off for another day, can't just let it work itself out. You have to cough up and fix it. Especially when it is an expensive vehicle. Too expensive to let sit in the garage forever unfixed. Or it is someone's only transport. We had a work ute that died. Used it for the farm. It was a beat up old thing so when it died, we couldn't afford to fix it and it has been sitting in a shed for two years.
But this ute that has died this time, is our only personal vehicle and serves as our personal car and our farm truck...so we'll gave to work out how to pay to get it fixed. :(
No. I grew up with horses on the farm. Working cattle with them, but we don't have any here on our place by choice. They eat too much grass and give us no money in return. :-) The grass a horse or horses would eat goes into the belly of cattle instead and we can get income from that breeding cow.
I totally sympathize with your vehicle troubles. I've had an engine rebuilt after I warped it and wrecked all the seals. My sister has had one replaced in her old truck, her mechanic found her a used one and it only cost her $900 to buy and install it but it was just an old Mazda pick up. It worked really good for a couple years until the truck was stolen and taken for a joy ride, that ended up being too much for the engine.
Always so stressful while you're trying to sort out finances and how to get around in the meantime. :(
Oh that sucks. To not only get your truck stolen, but then to have them wreck it. Some people are just sh#ts to their fellow man or woman. We are hoping to find a reconditioned motor for our truck. Fingers crossed. it will still be far more than we can afford, but to put in a genuine motor from Toyota is out of our financial reach.
I had a pretty cool '87 Pontiac Firebird back in the early 90's and gang initiation required them to steal a sporty car and then set fire to it....ergo, my Firebird went down in flames. Police called me at about 3am to tell me they found my car just down the street from where they stole it so I rushed down and there it was engulfed in fire. Never have figured out why they called me and told me that in the middle of the night. The policeman that was standing there by my car said it was idiotic for someone from the police station to tell me "they found my car" when it was obviously destroyed.
That is awful! Guess that firebird really was a firebird...:[ Well I suppose the good news is that you helped a gang member to get jumped in. I am sure that made him very happy. :)

It was a bad month, the house got broken into 2 weeks later. (not the same guy, thank goodness) So frustrating!
My sisters was reconditioned I believe and it worked really well. It was a far better deal than a new one, way too expensive.
I wondered if it was part of the same crime. The house break in and the car theft.Stressful. Your sister must have thought she'd walked under a ladder or had a black cat cross her path.
She was about the most upset I'd ever seen her. That was about 6 months ago and we've gone through 2 more vehicles now. Both of us are just ready for things to stop going wrong!! :)
When it all stops we'll probably think life has gotten very boring. No more crisis's to avert or problems to solve. :)
I love a boring life. I had my best ideas while bored. Unfortunately, it doesn't happen frequently enough.
Personally, I also love the boring life. This weekend was just about right, no drama or trauma. Just half a dozen books and dinner at Mom's. :)
I like the boring life too. Sometimes I think I would like more going on, but with more you get more drama and more stress. I am happy just cruising on my farm. :-)
The stress that is relieves stress.Peculiar isn't it. I have never really thought of it that way until now. :-)
Right, well I'm saddened to say that a long time member of Time Team, Mick Aston died earlier today. I've not received details, but his loss will be profound.http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/...
This is turning out to be a crap month for authors. The fellow who wrote I Am Legend, Richard Matheson died on Sunday.
Not really familiar with that dude. I never even watched that movie. I wonder if the book was popular (like Wool popular) or whether the story just got picked up for a movie.
There were actually 3 films made from that story, but I can't remember the other two titles. My understanding is that it was in its day quite popular and has remained well known (for lack of better description) since.
It was appalling. They took a shocking, original thoughtful ending and chucked it in favor of the most typical lame-ass Hollywood ending. I'm trying to think of another movie where they just trashed the ending like that one and I'm hard pressed.
Darcy wrote: "This is turning out to be a crap month for authors. The fellow who wrote I Am Legend, Richard Matheson died on Sunday."I remember reading this back in the 60's and remember it to this day...haunting. I actually liked the movie version with Charlton Hester better than the remake.
Nate wrote: "It was appalling. They took a shocking, original thoughtful ending and chucked it in favor of the most typical lame-ass Hollywood ending. It was a huge deal to me at the time.
The worst adaptation I have EVER seen - the one that always comes to mind when bad film adaptations comes up - was the film adaptation of The Bone Collector. They changed the entire story. It barely resembled the book.
And it was not like it was done for any reason.
Changing the main character from a Caucasian to an African American, making the Caucasian male assistant an African American female assistant, changing all sorts of characters. Completely changing story lines and plot. It was like it was change for changes sake.
Made about as much sense for Lincoln Rhyme (the main character) fans as it might for fans of Jack Reacher if they made him a Korean dude.
(P.S I am not saying I had any issue with race. My issue was that in the book they are Caucasian and that's what fans knew these characters as. There seemed no reason to change their sex and their race)
