Mysterious! My book's an ebook at present, but it's been formatted for paper and it doesn't have that sequence. I wonder if it is something the printers add? Or maybe it's specific to a particular publisher?

Dawn (caveatlector) I think we got the answer to that one Andrew: Newer books, those printed after 1968 or so, may have a number sequence printed on the Copyright Page that determines its printing history. A number sequence that has a "1" at the end such as "10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1" indicates a first printing. But, if the lowest number showing is 2, such as "10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2" then the book is a second printing .. and so on.

Depends if it is grass fed or grain fed. grain fed is not as tasty as grass fed. WE have a lot of both in my state. I always go for grass fed.

I like Windows 7. For me and my needs, it is better than Vista.

Terri | 19576 comments With the end of the financial year, they should be running out Windows 7 computers (with an option to upgrade to W8) cheap as chips.
Forget the W8 upgrade and just stick with W7 for the next 5 or more years. They should have wored out their W8 niggles by then. :)

I don't like IE. I use Firefox. IE freezes a lot on me...and it is dirty. If a person is going to pick up some Malware or dirty things, it will be through IE most of the time. I only use it to work my Blog (the one that I run in conjunction with this group) and the Group's Facebook page. (As I have strict cookie settings on Firefox that won't work with these sites.

I agree. As an alternative you could try Apple - I work on Mac: it works wonderfully but it's much more expensive.

I'm sure you're right Terri - but sadly - and it was very remiss of me - I didn't spend my time checking out the undersides of any cow I happened to walk past....:)

And mostly I only saw the cows when I took my cats out to hunt, (yes I'm a bit crazy!) so I had enough to do keeping them out of harms way. They didn't trust cows either - too big - so they gave the Frisian a wide berth.

I've heard that before - grass fed is better. And healthier - grain gives too much Omega 6 to the meat, which is bad for us. That may be why lamb tastes so good? Sheep are too smart to eat grain, apparently? So they insist on grass.

I have to tell you, Australian and New Zealand lamb are fantastic! Even after being frozen.

The cow in Egypt would have disembowelled any dog that came that close - she had to defend her calf against the dogs, which killed a lot of livestock.

Lamb is so expensive. We rarely eat it anymore as it is the most expensive of the regular meats over here.

You don't need to look underneath. Their vaginas or 'not vaginas' (in the case of males) are in the back. :)

Our Jack Russell loves doing this too. :-) so cute. He only dares when we have young weaned cattle near our house. Yearlings. He puts his head through the fence and licks their noses and they sniff him back. But lucky the fence is there or he would get killed by them.
Our adult cattle will kill any dogs that come around, even if they don't have calves, they will still chase down dogs.
So I keep my Jack Russell far away from them. :-)

You do check if a cow is pregnant through the anus though. So maybe that's what you are thinking. :-)

I really like your lamb too. It's expensive here, too. Leg of lamb is stratospheric in price; lamb chops are a rare treat!

Roast leg of lamb with my Mom's home made mint jelly (unfortunetly only three bottles left :() - yummmmmmmy!!!!

Terri | 19576 comments Potatoes are veggies, Andrew. Potatoes, Pumpkin, Squash, Carrots, Parsnips, Zuchini are all veggies. And taste great roasted around the lamb roast in a deep pan.

Wish this conversation hadn't started though, because like someone said above, roast lamb is my favourite too, and it's too damn expensive at the moment so I am getting very frustrated.... Got plenty of veggies growing in the garden, but a distinct lack of lambs.

Its extremely expensive over here in the US, I have to say. USanians don't seem to go in for it as much.

Ah, I knew it was something to do with the bumhole. Though from what I read looking it up apparently sometimes the calf can tear the lining between the two "cavities" and appear to come out of the bumhole.

I roast veggies in olive oil and herbs and spices.

I have only read This one which I thought was brilliant. The Wasp Factory by Iain Banks

Darcy (drokka) | 2675 comments I really liked Wasp Factory too, but my favourite is Espedair Street. Might have a lot to do with the time and place where I read it, and my experiences with musicians, but it will always have a special place in my heart.

Well that's a new one! Must be very rare. I have never seen nor heard of that before and hope never to have to deal with it.

I was just reading about his passing in the news this morning. RIP Iain Banks.

I read about his health problems on Richard K. Morgan's blog (I can't insert the link because I found about a dozen people with this name!), who highly praised this author. I think I'll start to read his work to honor him, now.

Beorn (bsceadugenga) I saw those posts on Twitter last night.
I volunteer in a local charity shop and saw a few of his books, liked the artwork but had no idea about anything like what the books were like so I just ignored them really.
Hopefully rectify that when I'm next in, especially when he apparently supported a number of causes I'm passionate about too.
