This one formed more quickly than most. There was a short warning. I'm hearing that the 24 kids drowned in a school basement because they got trapped by debris on top of the school. They're still digging through rubble..probably won't know the full extent until tomorrow. Right now, the national media is calling it one of the most damaging tornados on record. F-5
I've recently started getting bombed by gross spam myself lately. Don't know where it's coming from, but it's getting on my nerves.
I'll check out the evening news later tonight. Hopefully there will be some happy endings for some of these kids. :(

That was my downfall.
Bummed to hear that the one and only Ray Manzarek of the Doors passed away today. So, so much great organ playing on those records. I can still hear my stuffy jazz history professor pissing on the organ solo to "Light My Fire." Whatever. I still do my best Hammond B3 impression for all four minutes of it.
Darcy was ten steps ahead of you mate. She posted it in the eReaders vs Dead Trees thread this morning.
And we had a wee chat about it there. :-)

Having some difficulty getting the selected quote to appear. Is anyone else using Windows 8 having the same problem? Or it is just me? Again.

Yes, he is so clever, isn't he? Did you see Angry Boys too, Terri?
Here's some good news from OK, an elderly woman finds her dog alive in the rubble of her home. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=...

Who would have thought that Medieval research could be done whilst sitting in a dental chair?http://www.medievalists.net/2013/05/2...

I saw this one the news! Fantastic. Broke my heart, in a good way because I am happy for her, but also in a bad way for all those who lost their pets.

I watched the first two episodes of Angry Boys but couldn't get into it. I just didn't feel it was as naturally funny as his former stuff. Too forced.

Lol! Funny. :-) But super cool. Saves opening them and wrecking them!

I agree, Terri. A bit forced and not as funny... I watched them all though!
I don't generally mind the sound of a "hog" with headers, but when buddy can't start it and insists on continuing to try, especially at 21:00, my enjoyment wanes...fast. If he keeps it up, it will be the fourth night in a row I have to calm my cavies.
And is I was nearly done writing this the police told him to give up. Hahah
You referring to a Harley or the like?I don't mind admiring a Harley or equally noisy hog' if it is on the highway, but man I hate their noise if it is anywhere near the house.
Yeah, that type of motorcycle. I used to live across the street from a bike gang, and got used to the noise. But they at least would do an idle start at night time and turn it up once on the main road. Never in the neighbourhood.
That's respectful. To chuckle out and then let it rip only when they get out on the main road. Nice bikie gang...or nice in that bit anyway. Maybe the drugs and guns and prostitution less nice. :-)
Watched Prometheus last night.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sftuxb...
Oh my goodness. I had not expected to like it. I did like it.
I had some memory in my mind that it was somehow linked to the Aliens movies. I knew it was Directed by the Aliens director (and sci fi genius film maker) Ridley Scott, but I wasn't quite sure how it connected to the Aliens movies.
As a mega fan of those Aliens movies I am glad I finally watched Prometheus. I did have to put my hand over my face and peek through my fingers from time to time (for the yucky, gross bits), but it was worth it. The ending blew my mind!!!

That's fantastic Terri. I also really liked Prometheus. (In spite of some pretty fantastic leaps of believability. Esp referring to the athletic capability of the human body esp after....a physical trauma. (Know what I mean?)

The movie nearly lost me early on due to stupid cliches.

Leslie's spoiler...haha. No, most fellow movie goers don't appreciate those who scream or yell at the screen. Unless everyone is I suppose. :DI must say though. neither girl is a very good runner. Even before the (view spoiler), I noted some definite cordination issues with one Noomi Rapace. She runs like she's astride a horse...;\
I have a couple suggestions, but the first thing is to really identify the kind of blog you want. Mine is strictly a book review blog, but others also include interviews, daily ramblings, guest blogs, blog book tours/hops, giveaways, multiple writers, articles related to the blog's "theme" or dialogues about current issues in the publishing world.Once you've set out what you're particular blog is about, then you can determine if you'd like to solicit to do reviews or seek them out on your own, or not involve the author/publisher/distributor.
If you intend to do solicit, then I would include a page on your blog with your terms/rules/conditions etc. This would identify the types of books you're willing to review, the amount of time you think it will take to review, contact info for those unsure or who are requesting to do an interview/tour as well and your 'reach' and most importantly format of books. The boundaries.
If you do decide to solicit for reviews, then I would suggest to include multiple 'follow me' links. Such as if you're on blogger, then the blogger follow me, twitter, etc.
I don't tend to follow that way myself, I do like to follow by email, that way I don't have to check all the blogs I follow to see if there are updates, I just wait for the email. I get kind of disappointed when I can't follow a blog I really like in this manner. But, I can see why someone wouldn't want that feature - they can't track their 'reach'
If you accept digital ARCs there are more options. But there are loads of places to get them, and once you define your space, then you can narrow where you seek them out.
Hope that helps.
I'm always optimistically hopeful; never an anxious hope. ;)I review most of the books that I read. My main book review blog is history/anthropology based, so anything that fits within those parameters - either fiction or non-fiction. This way I need not answer to anyone if I don't meet a deadline :)
I have a secondary blog for everything else, but there's not much on it. I don't actively solicit ARCs, I used to for another blog, but that got me a lot of self-pub authors who didn't have their books copy edited, some not edit at all and I just couldn't bring myself to write reviews for books I didn't think were ready for the market.
So, I started the blogs I have now for myself and whoever wants to read them, and have been offered some books for honest reviews from more well-known authors, but I don't solicit for them. I'm trying NetGalley out, though I'm not fond of e-reading, so time will tell if I keep that up.
Oh, well, I'm glad it was helpful. :)For the most part I like to read and write what I enjoy, but I also try to expand in areas where I'm less comfortable or lack knowledge. I've got quite an eclectic library, so subject matter maybe not so focused, but genres moreso, yes.
I would gladly edit for content, but I'm not all that confident in my grammar and punctuation. I did offer to beta read, but they weren't interested in that :/
I think that's the best way too. Then once you've got it sussed you could branch out or even bloggers do guest articles on other blogs. This way you can still write about something else if it doesn't fit with your usual stuff and you wish not to deviate. Though, if that doesn't matter much to you, the word's your oyster. <- what that means exactly I've no idea.

And your idea of a fun weekend is rearranging your library for the 100th time.I have done this so many times, almost everyone thinks I'm strange when they ask what I'm doing for the weekend and I say I'm rearranging the book shelves. :)

But only from women! I'm not sure whether they think I am gay or they don t get that Terri with an 'i' is a female. Terry with a 'y' is male. And I am a Terri with an 'i' and a heterosexual.
I kind of feel I would rather get spammed by men. :-) (That was not an open invitation to heavy breathers!!)
