Random Thoughts
This certainly is random but need to pout! This week-end: wife totals one of our cars (no one hurt, that's the good news), our other car quits running later in the SAME day, our internet went out and since our phones are run through our internet they are dead too and to top it off my youngest daughter has taken ill. Wife and I fixed everything last night by simply drinking a couple of bottles of Chardonnay.

That sure does look like a house of learning. The blackboard, the books. Those kids sure seem to have an open environment to express themselves. Nice to see the parents giving their kids outlets that revolve around books and drawing (the large blackboard on the wall).

Glad everything worked itself out. And hope your daughter is feeling better.
Thanks all...just back from the doctor and the little one does have a slight concussion, ergo the headache and dizziness. But it could have been much worse. She just needs a lot of rest but the real bad news is she can't read for 3 days! She's an avid reader like her dad so this is bumming her out.
Oh poor baby! I hope she feels better soon. Since she can't read, you'll have to read to her instead. :)

I'm glad the Chardonnay fixed everything, I'm considering keeping on hand.
Yes, I agree with Leslie and D. I think Bobby should read to her for three days. :-) But none of those armaggedon zombie type books that you keep winning in Goodreads giveaways. :-)
I welcome any and all suggestions...and promise to leave the Zombie books in my room. On another note, tomorrow is World Book Night and I have volunteered to hand out 20 free copies of
to women at a battered shelter. This should be interesting. Hope my car can get me there!
Bobby, sorry to hear your bad luck. I take it you and your wife took the wine cure. That was funny. Do you have reliable transportation to the shelter? One car totaled and the other won't start. If you have trouble finding transportation, just take the wine cure again.
Good luck and hope the little one gets better.
I've been wondering why I haven't had to pay any duty/taxes for items/books purchased outwith my country. I took a close look at the customs declaration form on one of the parcels I just received from the UK and realise it is because they state that the book is a 'document'.
Aren't you happy to be a document reader? Costs less than reading books. That information is interesting.

A wonderful thing you are doing, Bobby. Hope the women like the book.

I think it used to be $1000 (about the same in USD).
I've had to pay customs on DVDs, assumed I would on books as well. Though, now that i think about it, we don't pay federal taxes on books here. Only provincial taxes. Could be another reason I've not been summoned.

That's awesome of you Bobby! Hope all goes well.

Oh, WOW!

Oh, WOW!"
Wow is right! However, I am not sure I would want to be in that library. Too many things to look at that would distract me from my book!
Wow. Okay, that wasn't my initial response, but considering that is a monastery I didn't think Holy sh#t was appropriate. :-)
Do you think they have any Bernard Cornwell in that library? Wouldn't that be funny?
If they had a little corner where they keep their John Grisham and Bernard Cornwell's. :-)
I am really very bored today. Where is everyone? Board is quiet. *sigh*I have had a couple hours of sitting around doing nothing waiting for my hubby to come home from the hardware store (then house renovation begin).
I should be reading while I am waiting, but cannot commit the brain power to it.
...and you lot are all off doing exciting things I am sure of it. :(
I'm sitting backstage at opening night of Hamlet. freezing cold in this theater. lol no reading, I might miss a cue.
Nope, nothing exciting at all actually but it really is time to get back into the exercise. So that's where I've been, out walking with a girlfriend. It's good for hashing out all the annoying things that happened at work too. :)
I have been revisiting the world of exercise this last week and a half. Mainly weights work for my abdomen. I thought maybe the lack of exercise I have been doing this last 6 months contributed to my bad back. Time to get those back and tummy muscles tight again...or tighter again....don't go picturing washboard stomach or anything. More like jelly laid over cardboard.
Weights are always good for the back, I try to keep those up over the winter, even if my cardio suffers. I've had far less trouble with back pain over the last few years because of it.
Now that to good weather is back, I paused my gym membership and I'm trying to get back into walking. And I'm adding in some stair climbing as I have only 5 months to get in shape if I wanna walk to the top of St. Paul's in London.
I'm attempting to read industriously today -- nonfiction -- and not doing too shabbily. Need to finish one of these blasted books for a sense of achievement. Have to wander off and pay the rent now, in the gorgeous sunshine. Not excitement city but not a bad day.
Crystal wrote: "It is! Thanks! Good luck with the renovation work!"Hubby came home from hardware and decided the stress of being in town meant he should have an after lunch power nap. :-) Renos postponed for a few hours.

Bryn wrote: "I'm attempting to read industriously today -- nonfiction -- and not doing too shabbily. Need to finish one of these blasted books for a sense of achievement. Maybe 'I'll make a coffee too.
So, I walked in to pay my rent, and there's a corner for 2ndhand books in a garden shop on the way. Cheaper than your usual secondhand shop, and they were having a 2 for 1 sale. Then she had to give me a discount because I hadn't taken any change. For $10 I lugged home:
I never thought to read those Colleen McCulloghs and I'm not even known to hang out in Rome. But there they were, handsome books in a set, and Nate's been enjoying his lately. --He mentioned the sketches she's done of her characters, how great.
It strikes me there's four months reading here, and the mathematics (books acquired: books read) gets less and less feasible
I do like those covers I got in the Romes. If they'd had other covers, now I see the other options, I mightn't have been swayed.
Haha I love those cheesy illustrated covers for the first two! I already bought The Grass Crown and the scene depicted on it is just epic and directly has to do with the story, which I always like as opposed to some abstract iconography or something. That said, those new ones you got are certainly impressive and very well-designed. I'm torn. I really hope you like the first one as much as I am at the moment, Bryn. I love finding interesting books for hilariously low prices in weird spots, I'm sure you probably do too. There's an antique furniture joint down the road and the lady there sells books and CDs so cheap it makes me feel bad buying them.
While I have a reason to rant about book covers, this is a great example of a cover I hate: http://covers.booktopia.com.au/big/97...It just looks so horribly dull and has almost nothing to do with the contents of the book. Sure the sword is cool, but really? That's the best the artist could come up with? It just seems to have no real substance or character. I almost feel like the people who design and create covers for books should have a clause in every contract stipulating they have to read the book first, as ridiculous as that would be.
I felt bad too -- I promised her to come back often. Not to buy a plant. I think mine are nice lookers, inside too, nice paper and print and falls open: makes you want to read them.

I don't like those sorts of covers. They look too mass produced. I like to feel like some thought and consideration has gone into a cover.
A sword on a blue background what is that telling me about the book except maybe it is an ebook? I am told some ebooks once you download them don't come with the covers. Bryn has experienced this firsthand. I guess in that case a crappy cover would suffice?? Maybe??
I mean, it wouldn't suffice for me because I like covers like some men like arses. I am a connoisseur of covers.
If you pay money for that ebook, you should get the cover. I think that is a rip off not to get a proper cover.
That's a good analogy, several of the young men I work with do indeed seem to consider themselves connoisseurs of arse, if you will.
Not an arse man here, however....Apple does it again
__
Apple Computer announced today that it has
developed
a computer chip
that can store and play high fidelity
music in
women's breast implants.
The iTit will cost between
$499.00 and $699.00
depending on
speaker size.
This is considered to be a major breakthrough because
women have
always complained about men staring
at their tits
and not listening to them.
Nate wrote: "That's a good analogy, several of the young men I work with do indeed seem to consider themselves connoisseurs of arse, if you will."Then you understand how I feel about bookcovers. Only its just about the looking for me....although if they are nice detailed ones (embossed writing) it does start to get a bit more physical.
