We can try and learn to keep our mouths shut together, Derek. (Sounds like a plan bound to fail though...;)...)

It helps if you have someone who you can argue about everything with, then you don't feel the need to do it on an international platform. :)It's too bad it never turns out good in a place like this though because there are so many interesting opinions. All the different backgrounds and cultural differences would make good conversation.

Oh yeah...That is a hopeless plan, in my case anyway. I'll just try & do my best not to offend anyone.

I think you are right about that, Dawn. I need someone to argue with every now & then. I also regret not being able to have conversations amongst people with opposing viewpoints & different cultural backgrounds. But you are right..it almost always turns out getting nasty.

Lol! That's funny Simona & Bobby. Do you think Terri would let me get a word in? Ha! Just kidding Terri.

Hey! :-) I'll have you know I am not a big talker. I like conversation with like minded people, but I value comfortable silences where the conversing companion doesn't think they have to fill the silence or gaps in conversation with chatter.
I hear you Terri. Comfortable silences are a rare, but valuable thing. Hard to come by. I express myself better with a keyboard or a pen & paper. If I conversed with you in person, you'd probably think I was mute, or inflicted with fear of human interaction. Anxiety issues.
I have enough quiet times sitting at my computer. What I crave is conversation. Sunday and Monday I had to sit in the car for ten hours with Susanna Gregory. She's left wing, I'm right, and we agreed about just about every modern issue. All I can say is, in ten hours of solid conversation, we fixed the world's problems. So instead of being an author, I think I need to be created the first world's Beneficient Dictator, with Susanna rotating every other year. Compulsory reading for all ...
I really would have like to be a (very quite and very still) fly on the wall/windshield? for those converstations :D
I didn't see the last one. I do love the original series and The Next Generation, though. Seems like they'd be fun.
Terri wrote: "Oh my gosh. The new Star Trek movie looks cooooollll."Yeah, I can't wait!. Plus...Benedict Cumberbatch!

I really liked the last Star Trek movie. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0796366/Especially (but not only) because it has the most delicious New Zealand model come actor, Karl Urban in it. :-)
For those who don't recall him. He played the mightily handsome Vaako in another of my fave movies, Chronicles of Riddick: http://www.imdb.com/character/ch0005025/
Another good movie although he doesn't speak much in it...nobody does.
Ghost in Pathfinder: http://www.imdb.com/character/ch0017803/
And..mmm...yummy..the assassin Kirril in The Bourne Supremacy: http://www.imdb.com/character/ch0002114/
:-)

I think one vote is all you'd need if you want to be a Beneficient Dictator. :-)
Oh yes! I should not neglect him in that role either. Eomer: http://www.imdb.com/character/ch0000144/ He is indeed most wonderful and I look forward to drooling over him again in this latest Star Trek movie. :-)

I have not seen that one yet. I saw the Stallone one back in the day. I would like to see Urban doing Dredd though. :-)
better than stallone, i was looking at his list of jobs i thought i knew him from some where before when i saw him in TLOR turns out he play Julius caeser in xena and hercules, lols
Bryn wrote: "Ha ha so that's where I remember him. The famous Xena! As that scummy Caesar."he hammed it up to perfection in my oppinion Byrn.
I'll need to check this out.Wayyyy before he was an actor, when he was a lowly male model, he used to co host a music channel here in Australia. He didn't impress me much then, it wasn't until he started acting that I began to crush on him. :)
Goodreads is dead slow and jamming. It is an internet miracle that I even got i to this thread to post this.
Guess it will be fixed tomorrow by the time I wake up. Doesn't help me now though.

Terri, do you start
yet?My copy arrived friday but still in the wrapper.
I got the one with this cover
apparently an older edition, hence the big discount. :)

I guess that explains why there isn't that many posts here this morning. :)
My swimming partner has cancer. We email each other every day and send funny stories. I think my emails to him have been going out to EVERY contact I have on my contact list. If anyone should get one of these emails, please let me know. My friend's email name is: aubreyssrIn the meantime I am trying to find the source of this problem.
Coincidentally, I just watched Judge Dredd today (don't remember it being at the cinema). After the Stallone Dredd, I didn't have particularly high hopes, but it was actually a good, gritty story, very true to the comic-book Dredd. Sorry though girls, he never removes the helmet and he only removes the armour to apply a high tech field dressing.
In case you miss Terri, a few Australian users report the site is dead slow or goes nowhere. I can use intermittently. Like this last night (for us) and this morning.
I hope that get that sorted soon for you lot. I remember when it happened to some of bus in Canada a few weeks ago - it's like a lifeline has been pulled.

You want to join Dawn and I on the buddy read? As it was never in the polls we are going to make any comments about the book (with spoilers) in the Normans thread.
I have the same cover as you. :-)
Yep. The slow site is why I have been a wee bit quiet.:-) Drives me batty waiting for it to work so I just give up.As D said, it is like a life line being pulled. Can't chat, can barely edit, comment, use any GR functions such as add book or author.
I did see that other Aussies are having the same problem with the site. I am not having this issue with any other site so it has to be a GR thing.

See you in the Normans thread.
Yep. See you there! :-) Although I won't be around a huge amount until Goodreads staff get to work Monday morning and hopefully fix this slow GR site issue.
It is painful trying to do anything in the site right now, but because it is still the weekend in the US, i doubt anything will change until tomorrow. :(
