I just saw that Bernard Cornwell's Sharpe's Enemy is on sale is the US kindle store today for $1.99.
Have to say I was a little disappointed with Sharpe's Assassin. I enjoyed it, but it didn't have anything like the immersive depth and flavour of most Sharpe books.Sharpe’s Assassin
Wait a minute, Adrian!!! Did you receive an ARC or something? I didn't think that it's coming out until December!
It's still good. In fact I tried to ration myself - just a few pages at a time to prolong the savouring. But there's a powerful ambience to all the best Sharpe books which is sadly missing in this. I rated it a four when Sharpe would almost routinely get a five from me - and I'm a hard marker.
Agreed. That was so divorced from the main canon though.Coming straight after Waterloo, Assassin has every chance to move on spectacularly but kinda drops the ball.
I still enjoyed it.

I'm looking forwards to reading it - whenever the library gets it in
I would like to wish all those who are celebrating today - HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!For those who aren't - HAPPY 25 November :)
And to you & yours!! We are excited to have most of us gathering together today… 38 of us!! Looking forward to all those hugs!!
Some of my extended family are meeting at my Father's home - at last count 32 of us will be there. The count is still down from Pre Covid numbers, but...I will be putting the Turkey in the oven here in about an hour :)
IMnotsoHO family is what Thanksgiving is all about - Last year was really really weird, just my immediate family. Somehow something was missing.
All of my sibling, (total of 6 of us) live with in about a 15 minute drive of his home (I'm about 2 minutes IF I take it really really slow:))
A couple of them are having diner with there families, but will drop in for pie/desert later in the day
The lights are up on the house and get turned on tonight and this evening we will watch one of the many versions of A Christmas Carol, to kick off the Christmas Season.
Once again Happy Thanksgiving to all that are celebrating today.
Happy Thanksgiving!I'm roasting a 26.5 lbs turkey, so of course five members of my family can't make it! It will be just six of us. If I had a small 16 pounder everyone would have come over ;).
But at least this way we'll have lots of leftovers. And a little stress has been lessened since all of the side dishes are smaller batches.
Happy, I love that the six siblings still live so close to your Dad!! How awesome is that!! Enjoy!!!

Well, it looks like winter has FINALLY arrived - the latest measurable snow producing storm in the Salt Lake Valley on record, but it really has made up for it this week! - the ski resorts have gotten more than 40 inches of the Famous Wasatch Powder :) since last Thursday. This morning I woke up to 7 inches on my lawn. We have one more storm forecast, then a stretch of a week or so with out storms. It is funny how people forget how to drive in the snow from year to year. The Utah Highway Patrol is reporting more that 300 accidents in the 100 miles of the Watasch front (that is where the vast majority of Utah's population lives). The first major snow storm of the year always has a spike in accidents. Sometimes I wonder where people think they live :) It's not like snow storms are an unforseen occurence :)

When we got married, I told her pick a house you can live with, because I ain't moving just to move! (if there was a job transfer that would be a whole different story). We got married on the Dec 3, signed on the house Dec 7 and moved in Dec 10 and have been here ever since.
It's not quite the same house, we have done of updates and additions over the years, but it is still the same address :)
So very happy for you! If you could do that right after getting married that tells me you were a very good catch! My father was a good man also but for him the grass was always greener on the other side of the hill. So, yea! for both of us! Success!
Awesome, Happy!!! For the enduring marriage & the sustaining home!!! Merry Christmas to you & yours!!
Same to you and yours! We've FINALLY got all of Christmas up, the caramels made, so now I can enjoy the rest of the season :)
We are getting our first snow flurries. Not likely to get much more than a coating this close to the coast. However, white lawns do add to the Christmas atmosphere!!
Doesn’t feel like Christmas here with our weather. It’s been 60 degrees. In December. In Michigan. What. And global warming isn’t a thing 😒Was supposed to have snow today but it’s just been an off and on drizzling rain 😩
Virginia Beach weather has been awful, too. 80 degrees F last Saturday, then the 70's ever since. As a transplanted northerner, it's just wrong. The air should be crisp and chilly this time of year! For Pete's sake, mosquitoes are out!
My house is also all set, last of the decorations went up yesterday. Baking won't be finished until the 24th though. We got snow yesterday, about a foot's worth. But nice and sunny today. About 2 degrees (35F).
I'm now in my new apartment. I am exhausted and not feeling particularly Christmassy, The tree will not be going up this year.
May wrote: "Just as long as you know that you are surrounded by Christmas hugs!!!"Thank you. I shall try to remember that.

Day by day you'll enjoy your new digs more....and next year, you'll have a xmas tree...if you want. If not, there are still xmas movies, books, eggnog and a nice couch. Merry Xmas Margaret. AND hugs.

Thanks Simona. :)
Christmas starts today and will end on New Year's night. I appreciate all that you have done for this year. You gave me good reads and a home where I can talk about anything. You welcomed my grandson into the group. I wish all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. You are all special to me!
i'm a touch late in wishing everyone here a Very Merry Christmas, but just the same - MERRY CHRISTMAS!We didn't get our White Christmas, the storm that was supposed to deliver the white stuff was just a touch bit warm - we had rain most of the day yesterday. The rain took care of all the leftover snow from last week :( The forecast is for snow tomorrow - we'll see
