Terri, I am so very sorry that your vaccination program has been slowed down!! My state is making great progress, but a 3 day 3 site massive effort was stopped / canceled last weekend because they were intending to give JNJ shots... I think we have 50% vaccinated in NH, but that is not herd immunity 🥴

Well, I was lucky in that I got both of my Moderate shots done through CVS pharmacy and the thing is THEY contacted me via email. I guess that’s because I’m a customer of theirs and they located me thru their database. My husband had a two-week long case of Covid (with lingering after effects) but has gone ahead and taken one shot and is waiting for his second. According to TV doctors that will make him super resilient. He wants to go to Canada for his sister’s 100 birthday but I dunno, those Canadians are being super resistant about who crosses their border. He’s got his US passport but he’s also requesting a Canadian passport. (He was born in Canada but says the government still considers him a Canadian. Beats me. I never heard of such a thing. 🥄
Yep, we're being quite picky about the US / Canada border up here. And the thing is, even if the politicians wanted to open it....they won't....it would be political suicide at the moment. But my aunt came across not that long ago, she drove up from Washington State. Self quarantined for 2 weeks and was able to visit my Grandmother, who is in a care home. So it must be possible to come up without a Canadian passport, she doesn't have one. And she isn't vaccinated yet either, I think it was just a test.
The being born here part, might be the same as the UK? I think my sister looked into the UK and if you or either of your parents are born there, it would be possible for you to get a passport. Maybe our rules are similar??
Happy, you need 14 days from your 2nd shot for the vaccination to be at its full effect. Almost there!!!
I've been seeing the uptake of vaccination in the US and I'm so impressed by you all. Good on you! Do they say you have immunity from the second shot? Now, I don't want to compare you all to livestock ... but ... when we vaccinate our cows and bulls, it is two shots of vaccine 4 weeks apart, and then 6 weeks after the second shot the animal is regarded as immune. 4 weeks after the second shot on some cattle vaccines, but to be safe, 6 weeks.
Is the covid shot like my livestock vaccinations? :-D
I think I’ve heard that it’s two weeks after the second shot. The big row going on now is whether on not it’s necessary to continue wearing a mask after you’ve had the second shot. The government says yes but private doctors say no. It’s called CYA medicine.

In general, people are considered fully vaccinated: ±
2 weeks after their second dose in a 2-dose series, such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or
2 weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine
If you don’t meet these requirements, you are NOT fully vaccinated. Keep taking all precautions until you are fully vaccinated.
I had the J&J vaccine the 1st week of March and my husband had Moderna: his 2nd shot April 23d.

In a way, your comparison of us to cows is sort-of valid: didn't smallpox vaccine come from Dr. Jenner and cowpox where he noticed dairymaids didn't get smallpox?
CDC says that those of us are fully vaccinated can now be outside, in small groups, without masks!!! Now we need the weather to warm up!!!

Yes. When my dad went into the army in WWII he wasn't given the smallpox vaccine because he had had cowpox from working with cattle. He had been a drover (cowboy in the USA).

Wild winds & some rain here the last few days. Temperatures are still moderate.Happy, want to share some of that heat??
We’re getting a preview right now: heat, wind and, of course, a little wildfire out in the San Fernando Valley. Tomorrow is scheduled to bring lower temps but we in So Cal know Summer is on it’s way.

Sure, as long as we don't get any of your wind - we do need your rain though :)
Went to my nephew’s baseball practice last night and game this morning and being out there exposed around the field, man those winds!!! We were all bundled in sweatshirts, coats, hats, blankets, I had gloves on, and all drinking hot drinks even though the sun was shining it was so darn windy and chilly!
Brrr, sounds chilly! Warm and humid day here, but´s supposed to get colder and rain. Cold April seems to move into May. :P

I had gotten my flu shot there so they had my name. So I did get the shot through them. I've had no problems. I had tried over and over on the NYS website but "no appointments available."
May wrote: "Allie, did your nephew‘s team win?? Where was his game??"Hahahaha....errrr, no. They got slaughtered, 10-0!! Only Landon and the one girl on the team even got on base. But they stayed at first and second until the end of the inning because no one else can hit :(
They just play in neighborhood fields but that wind was hitting us something fierce out in the open! Now of course today, because he’s not playing baseball, it’s 81! We live in Michigan :)
My dogs groomer got a J&J shot and it made her sick for seven days which makes me think that if she had really contracted Covid it would have killed her. Things are really beginning to loosen up here in California They’re even letting some fans back in Dodger Stadium for baseball!

Very interesting, Jane. I never realised that smallpox vaccine was developed from something that cows got. I've never heard of cow pox.
Terri wrote: "It's the J&J shot that requires only one shot, isn't it? No booster?"Yes, you are right. But who knows if any of them won't require a booster every year like the flu shot? There's been talk of that.
What are people's thought on the Beta book thing GR has saddled us with? I think it's horrible. I'm glad they now have an opt-out feature. With the old way, you could be more precise, but I guess precision has gone out the window.

Ahhh, met friends for lunch yesterday!! Masks no longer required, inside or out, if you are fully vaccinated! We are and it was pure pleasure!! A major milestone!! Ahhhh
Oh, I am so with you on that! Free at last, free at last! Thank God, we are free at last! Well, almost. There are a few exceptions. But still...😀
Marilyn wrote: "Oh, I am so with you on that! Free at last, free at last! Thank God, we are free at last! Well, almost. There are a few exceptions. Stores, etc. around here still require them, though.

I´m thinking of wearing masks further in winter too. I hardly had any cold last winter, though I usually have the whole winter through. I always got the flu shot though.
Good idea to further wear masks atm, as long as there´s no herd immunity, and in rooms where many people meet closely.
I´ll get my vaccinations at the end of May and beginning of July (Moderna), so hope to go on a short holiday in my country towards the end of July, when I´m fully vaccinated (hubby is a bit earlier).

Michaela wrote: "I have no idea what the Beta thing is about. Where do you see it? or is it only in the US?"Maybe it's not in the E.U? I'm in the U.S. and Adrian, I believe is in the U.K. if I'm not mistaken. It's when you first look at a book. It's set up differently from the old way and says Beta in the lower right hand corner.
Michaela wrote: "Thanks Jane! It doesn´t seem to be here, but obviously no damage. ;)"Well, maybe it's not in EU then, Those tech people are playing around I guess and just making things more difficult. :)
Adrian wrote: "I'm in Australia and do not want the beta version. Much harder to see what you want at a glance."I apologize for my error in where you live. I myself was able to switch back to the old way.
