I don't know but I ignore most of the requests I get. There have been a lot lately with 0 books in any category and very sketchy [or no] information about themselves. Maybe these are Russian bots.

It doesn't matter if they state they live in New Jersey or Newport...they always have a Russian address.
Tim wrote: "You mean those beautiful Russian women aren’t really interested in being my friend?! ;-)"Sorry to break this to you Tim...
If I don't know the person sending me a friend request (ie someone in this group) I always check out their profile. I haven't got one of those 0 friends, 0 books, ones for a long time. But I used to get them. I'll keep an eye out.I'm getting friend requests lately that i reject because they don't answer the question I have 'why should we be Goodreads friends'. I've let a couple through because I checked them out and they were in A&M.
I'm beginning to wonder if the mobile version no longer shows my question. Seems weird that I would regularly get people who aren't answering it. Its very arrogant to not answer the question. Maybe people are just getting more arrogant these days. The question is usually my spam/bot spotter.
I also have been getting random requests from men with no books read, no shared groups, no mutual friends so I am clicking on ignore. It seems to come in waves, don’t you think??

I had two more this morning. Ignored as per usual. If we don't have mutual friends and shared reading interests and I am not accepting.
Dawn wrote: "I don't get any friend requests but lots of followers. I just go in and remove them."Ditto, also I changed the settings that allows other people than friends to follow you.
Simona wrote: "Then I think you should ramble a bit more entusiastically, to keep your new fans entertained... 😉"Hee Hee & there was me thinking twas the best way to get rid o them ;)
Marilyn wrote: "The books listed on the GR Choice awards are books I’ve never heard before - or after."The Allende I liked but the Mexican Gothic was weird and disappointing. Some I heard of but was not interested in them, and some I had never heard of, like you.
When I joined I thought this was a venue to discuss History and Historical Fiction. Instead this is looking like a romance advice column in a local newspaper!
This is the Random Thoughts thread, where we talk about everything, and we´re dealing with unpleasant people (mostly men) who offer their "friendship". I don´t think you´ve ever posted anything here, so it´s a "nice" way to introduce yourself.
Ivan, there are plenty of threads on specific subjects. This thread, as Michaela says, is for off topic discussions. Setting up this thread was a deliberate choice by the moderators to allow people, to talk on non-historical fiction related subjects. A look through our discussion lists should find you an appropriate thread for what you wish to discuss.
Ivan wrote: "When I joined I thought this was a venue to discuss History and Historical Fiction. Instead this is looking like a romance advice column in a local newspaper!"Crikey. Where is the romance advice column? I must have missed it.
Ivan. what Margaret said, and Michaela said. But I would add to that. This thread is for people from the group to simply shoot the breeze and catch up with each other socially. Like, say, the cafe area in a library. Then we walk back into the library by going to all the other topics within the group for our historical fiction discussions.
If you have no interest in this thread due to its off topic focus, then bring up the full menu of Discussions and find topics where you would feel more comfortable.

Yeah, I could use that right about now 😂

Excellent analogy!
May wrote: "I, for one, appreciate the opportunity to just chat!!"Me too. Especially in these times, a bit of easy, stress free chit chat can cure some greater ills. :-)
Adrian wrote: "On the subject of spambots, Ivan is a suspiciously Russian name..."I have moved on and away from this thread but I feel obligated to respond to this comment. I am new to Goodreads but joined due to a long time interest in history and historical novels. I realized I had tapped into the wrong group but I am still getting notices of postings which I must shut down. I am not any kind of bot and most certainly not Russian and I find your remark insulting.

Have already done as suggested and moved on.

Ironically, I was merely joking. I have cc-ed below a comment which was intended to be insulting.

Ivan, in all seriousness this is a very good Historical Fiction discussion group but not every single thread is on HF topics because sometimes people just chat. You should look through the many subject areas and discussions before leaving permanently.

GOODBYE!
I think perhaps it was the wrong group, Ivan, as hostility is not welcome in this group. It is in fact, not welcome in most Goodreads groups. Hostility like you kicked off with originally, is something that seems to belong more on Facebook and Twitter. So, yes, all the best in whatever Goodreads group you land in.
Moving on from that awkward moment....Hey, I have been watching that American home design reality show, Dream Home Makeover, and I NEVER realised that Salt Lake City, Utah, is so darn beautiful. It's a breathtaking area. Seems like wherever anyone builds a house there is a spectacular view to be had. Those mountains are truly incredible to behold.
I've only seen Salt Lake City in any detail on the tele when they held the Winter Olympics there.
And I just looked it up and that was in 2002! So, its been a while since I've seen anything to do with Salt Lake City.
Yes, Salt Lake is truly beautiful. Matter of fact, all of Utah is and I’ve been in nearly all the states except for about 6 or 7.
Well, I am not near as well traveled as Marilyn, but I also think Utah is beautiful. I have been multiple times and there is still more I want to see.
I have seen very little of my own country!!! Truly hoping that we can spend time doing so after the pandemic!!
Your country is gorgeous May. So many great parks and monuments. Also, many great amusement parks!! :)
Thnx for the comments on SLC, as a Utah resident (about 15 miles north of SLC), yes it is beautiful and more importantly accessible (for the most part). It does have it's problems though - ie in the winter we get tempature inversions that traps all the gunk that comes for cars, industry and heating in the air. It can get so bad you CAN NOT see the mountains and we have to breath that stuff!
The best way to see it is by car. That way you can stop when you want, see what you want ( for as long as you want) and meet the people who lie and work in that area. I remember finally getting to see where Custer made his last stand. It’s up on a hill and there was a park ranger who told about the battle, etc. There are individual markers scattered over the hill depicting where each soldier fell. There is a big standing monument to depict where Custer died. Three years after Custer fell the Army returned and reclaimed his body and returned it for proper burial. The other soldiers remained where they fell. I remember standing at the top of the hill, looking out towards the west and there was Interstate. 90 where cars were flying by. It seemed so odd a juxtaposition if you will departed by only a hundred years.
