Thank you, your right it was a long labor of love, 3 years of dedicated work, makes me proud of her every time I look at it, when she finished it she was bored as heck for about a week. She a master at sewing, knitting, cross-stitch, and anything else that uses a needle and thread.

Yep, I was by myself, luckily only 1/4 mile from home :) Mrs Happy was still asleep

Jane | 3480 comments I have fallen twice many years ago and now have had metal in both ankles; both ankles were broken. My feet are still weak; I can't get up if I'm on hands and knees: to scrub the kitchen floor, say. I have to crawl over to something and pull myself up. Happy, I'm glad you escaped the cast, black boot, and recovery period.

Terri | 19576 comments Crikey, Jane, you've had some bad luck with your ankles/feet!

message 16456: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) Oh, I have metal in an ankle too!! I busted up the left one a couple years ago. I'm still working on making it stronger, might be easier if I worked at that consistently! :)

Hmm, and you are so far away...I want to learn how to embroider...!! That cross stitch is gorgeous, I would love to work on a project that big. Though I have a tendency to falter at about 6 months and want to start something new.

Thank you.
Once you start something that huge, you'd want to see it through.

There were times when she'd put down the needle and thread for a few days or a week then she'd get right back into it.

What do you do for it? My left is stronger than my right but that isn't saying much. [The left ankle was not broken as badly.]

Terri | 19576 comments I used to love doing cross stitching. Haven't done it for well over a decade, but I miss doing it. I keep telling myself to get back to it. But I haven't yet seen a cross stitch that inspired me enough.
That one of your wife's, Dave (or maybe one a little shorter.. haha.. for a non-master cross stitcher) is exactly what I would love to do if I got back into it.

What is the height and width of it, without frame, Dave?

The flexibility ones like these: https://myhealth.alberta.ca/health/Af...

The physio had me on a exercise bike and doing lunges on a half bosu ball, and step ups and a leg press. I have continued with cycling, because I like it. I have the bosu balls but don't do those consistently. And many flights of stairs in lieu of one step, but only when I am doing walks. So that has been inconsistent too.

message 16462: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) Mine was a workplace accident, so I had some extra help and went to the physio for 6 months after it healed up enough. I think it would be doing better if I had been doing all the exercises as often as I should have.

Width, I'd say about 2 1/2 to 3 feet.
Length, at least 7 feet I'm 6ft, and it's way taller that I am.
Before they framed it, they had to specially soak and treat it with a lengthy drying process, they also came over to mount it on the wall, all from the same shop she bought the project from. When she dropped it off, it took about 2 weeks before they came over to hang it.

I'd start by visiting and browsing cross stitch shops and talking to folks who are there, you may find some project or someone there that would inspire you to take up the craft once again.
Get Moving!

Terri | 19576 comments Holy smokes!! I didn't realise it was that big a project! I'm astonished. I was thinking it was maybe 3 feet long. You could have knocked me over with a feather when I read your figures then.

It took her 3 1/2 years. Though she did take some breaks here and there but not too many.

Linda (ladylawyer8650) | 1702 comments Me too!
I finished the 8th book of the Saxon Tales by B. Cornwell last night. I have enjoyed re-reading my favorite books. I cannot find a Cornwell book about 1066. I hope to piece together books from other authors that reflect a continuous string of English history.

message 16477: by Adrian (new)

Adrian Deans (adriandeans) | 293 comments Cornwell wrote a book about 1066? Tell him to stay off my patch!

message 16478: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (last edited Feb 13, 2020 11:12PM) (new)

Terri | 19576 comments And nor will you find one by Mr Cornwell set in the 11th century, Linda. He hasn't gone there yet but maybe he should. :)

message 16479: by Linda (last edited Feb 15, 2020 07:08AM) (new)

Linda (ladylawyer8650) | 1702 comments Thanks for letting me know I will not find what I am looking for in Mr. Cornwell's Saxon series. I am up to Book Nine in the series but have not bought it yet. If 1066 is Adrian's patch, I will try picking that field!
Terri, have you read the ninth and tenth books of the series?

message 16480: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

You're very welcome indeed Linda. If you have trouble finding it send me a PM.

Celebrating this week as just had another book accepted. Hooray!

message 16483: by Adrian (new)

Adrian Deans (adriandeans) | 293 comments In fact, I'd love to read a BC novel set around Hastings. You just know he'd do a brilliant job.

message 16484: by Adrian (new)

Adrian Deans (adriandeans) | 293 comments A teensy little publisher in WA called Hague Publishing. The book isn't historical - more a speculative fiction satire on why the world is truly so screwed up.

All my usual dark humour and hopefully a little thought provoking.

message 16485: by Linda (new)

Linda (ladylawyer8650) | 1702 comments Congratulations to Adrian regarding his new book!
The Dreaded Black Boot: I have complained about my broken feet for so long. I realize now that I am not the only person to suffer foot and ankle injuries that resist healing. I had to get on my hands and knees last week to scrub a floor. It tore my foot up and I am wearing the black boot again. My sixteen year old granddaughter is in a beauty pageant tomorrow, and I know she will be embarrassed when her granny comes in walking in the auditorium wearing a huge black boot that makes a noise with every step. My
seventeen year old grandsons will half carry and half drag me to my seat. They think it is fun to help out an old lady. I think they need to make a patch saddle (remember those?) and give my whole body an air ride!
Happy: I think Mrs. Happy makes you the happiest man alive! You speak of her so warmly and sometimes with understated humor! I love doing cross stitch using both patterns and free form. I could not get your pictures on my screen, but other people said they were beautiful. There is a pattern entitled They Fotched Me. It is about the man who was hauled into court and was standing before the judge. After the judge asked him why he was in court, the perp said, 'They fotched me.' The fotched person evidently did not know his crime or why he was arrested! Poor fotched fellow. I was doing that piece when my father died and never finished it. Sorry about the fall and bruise.
The Super Bowl: You showed 'em, Kansas City! Neither team was 'my team,' so I had no bias against either team. Still, KC and Andy Reed made a fine showing!

You really need to get someone to clean your floors, Linda. A housecleaner perhaps. With your feet and ankles so easily damaged it might be time to hand over soms of those chores!

Hope you're feeling better.

Parke Godwin has three books in and around Hastings

Lord of Sunset by Parke Godwin

This is the story of Harold and his common law wife and ends with Hastings

He moves his two book set on Robin Hood to the aftermath of Hastings. Robin in this story is a deposed Saxon Thane. Robin has a relationship with both William I and his son William II

Sherwood (Sherwood, #1) by Parke Godwin

Robin and the King (Sherwood, #2) by Parke Godwin

Terri | 19576 comments 6 books read of my 20 Goodreads Reading Challenge quota and I'm thinking that this may be the first year for many years where I am going to be able to jack up my number from 20! :)

I really just struggled to maintain interest in reading for a few years there.

message 16495: by Michaela (new)

Michaela | 98 comments Congrats Terri! Are those all historical novels? My experience is that I can only read a few of them per year, and read others inbetween. If your interest in reading is going back on the whole, why not take a break and do something else?
