Bran is such a killjoy. Only said that to my hubby when we were watching that episode. Nobody brings down the vibe in a room quite like Bran. That episode the other night felt like a fill in between episodes. It was mostly just silent face shots. Like a soap opera (which it has always felt like to me). Everybody looking at each other staring or conveying emotions for lonnnng pauses.
Don't think there was much dialogue in it at all.
It is half the reason why I have always disliked the series. But I made myself stick to it for all those seasons. To see it to its ending. Thank goodness it is nearly here.
I hope Cersei wins the throne, because that would be WAY TOO EVIL! muah ha ha ha haaaaaaa..... (except there is no one left to be incestuous with!)
Haven’t seen this season yet because I don’t get HBO but am I the only Cersei fan out there?!?! She’s a badass, evil genius and I’m here for that!!

And there's always Tirion, imagine that! I could cope with Cersei living on as queen if it she was Tirion's lover.
Shame...shame...shame...

The sullen silences seems to be a thing that's creeping into a lot of series.... I first noticed it in Vikings (and gave up) & for sure it's happened in this series as it's got deeper, I always thought it revolved around John Snow..... he of the sullen visage & then the Dragon Queen started...... I put it down to a teen angst thing but now even Cersei is at it..... :( I'm sure the first few series were a lot more active in action & dialogue
Perhaps? it's all part of the dumbing down process........ ie a lonnnnnnnng pause between dialogue is needed before we the audience get the plot...... its so we can keep up lols
Don’t you think a lot of the disappointment in the slow scenes and the dialogue is due to the fact that they’re reliant on the script writers rather than J.R.R.Marten himself. After all, aren’t they hacks compared to him? Writing not only takes talent but experience and these writers are having to cope with the dreaded deadline as well. Personally, I think HBO is at fault as well. They knew Marten wasn’t finished with the series as well. It was the ratings translated into $$$ that egged them on. Marten is to blame as well for grabbing onto the brass ring too soon as well. ‘Course, maybe the guy was short on grocery money and rent as well. Imagination and talent as great if you have it but you can’t make it on that as well.
Been very interesting reading everyone’s thoughts on game of thrones, I have only ever watched the very first episode and only read to A Feast for Crows.
I loved the books so much. Yeah, love queen C too. Her and Ayra are my heroes (and Jason Momoma as Drako, oh yeah). Yes, Jamie is chopped liver. And Tyrion is too cool to stay alive.
I read the other day that George has had a lot of issues with the writers. Lot of tension and disagreements due to the way they wanted to write the story. He said a lot fo that is because the writers want to finish up the series, while George would prefer it to go another 5 years.
Imagine that GoT fans. George doing the same thing with the tv series as he does with the ASOIAF series. Never ends. And likely he will drop dead before it is completed. lol

I bet Cornwell's the same with the Uhtred series.
totally underwhelmed by that episode too..... you can take jus so much of fire breathing dragons incinerating folk and buildings toppling...... highlight was The Hound fighting his big brother, genial moment as compared to Aryia 9 lives Stark...... what was all the about, became laughable in the end.
Mind numbing stuff. Maybe they are actually trying to make a farce of the final episodes. So people won't miss it as much. Which, of course, was never an issue for me. Someone who had been willing it to end for years.
Certainly not living up to all the hype that went before this series started. It's all been pyrotechnics and zombies so far sprinkled with loooooong sullen pauses.Defo summit in the story you mention about the writers and George I recon, mind tis his own undoing as he'd never finished writing the books and I bet he never will 😉
I must be easily influenced because the wee wife and I are dreading the end of GOT! Being in the cinematic sphere I marvel at the work that went into the pageantry and sets. Editing is almost flawless ( except for Starbucks cup LOL) and casting was wonderful. We will miss it. The Dragon Queen’s rage was fantastic.

"like"!
Feels like the whole thing is racing towards a precipitate and unsatisfying conclusion. Two of the main contenders (it seems) are out of the way and clearly Jon Snow is withdrawing from Danaerys - thus opening up the possibility of that particular conflict. Of course, either JS or DT ending up on the Iron Throne would be way too predictable so it won't happen. DT's demise will clearly involve both JS and her last dragon. The main problem for the last episode will be getting all the main players back together. It's still looking good for either my Sam Tarly prediction, or the somewhat less satisfying (and very late developing) child of Arya prediction.
The main wild card is Bran - what's he up to and how will he figure in the conclusion? I note also that both Sam and Bran have the capacity to find a way to kill or neutralize dragons.
By the way, one thing that has irritated me in the last series is how fake the dragons often look flying. You'd think they could look so much realer these days - look at how amazing Smaug looked wrecking Laketown in the Hobbit movies.

I actually thought the dragons looked great this season. All the long shots of flying dragons look terrific to me. As I used to be a big Anna McCaffrey fan in my late teens, the long shots of flying dragons make me think of her stories.I am still unsure why Sam (view spoiler)

Well, 15,000 GOT fans have signed a petition to try and force HBO to remake the entire entire season the way they want it to end. They are hoping to get 25,000 signatures. It can’t be that bad surely?
It's pretty bad.Considering they took an extra year to even make five episodes, well, that makes it even 'badder'.
Seems they spent all that time and all that money on making lengthy dragon scenes and dragons breathing fire and burning stuff up scenes.
Not much else seems to be going on in this final season. Feels so rushed.
I wouldn't imagine 25,000 fans would make them blink. lol. It would surely need to be in the millions. I wouldn't sign it. I think the final season is woeful and boring, but I'm happy to see it end. Whether that be a good ending or a bad one. ;-)

Rushed is a good word..... I'd even go so far as use the word "forced" as so many of the threads seem contrived rather than thought throu whilst others are like I know lets use some MORE fire breathing dragons or toppling buildings plus we'll close shave our micro assassin one more time..... the audience will LOVE that.... right??
That petition has hit 450000 already..... kids of today jus can't handle it can they..... do summit they don't like and you have to remake, revote etc until it falls there way lols

This morning I presented at our annual Research and Scholarship Summit. I opened with a little joke as follows:
Do you realise that if we were in Yorkshire, research and scholarship summit...would mean research and scholarship something. I think that's quite interesting.
A gratifying level of polite laughter ensued.

As a Yorkshireman well played sir.
Andy wrote: "That was torturous in it's entirety, complete non event of an ending for me"Hearing that a lot from friends who have watched it.
Loved it...pretty much stayed true to the book. If you want a different ending write your own fantasy!!
I avoided it all day and then caught a title on a mssg board this evening which gave away someone's ending which dinny really help, that aside it was still pants, too many survivors never sits well with me : D
Just terrible. Series 7 jumped the shark but series 8 was like they'd taken a whole school to Ocean World and taught them to jump through hoops in unison. That's what happens when you take the story out of the hands of the master and give it to producers. It felt like the whole series was cobbled together after reading feedback from focus groups.
GRR gave the show writers his notes on 6,7 and 8 and was pleased with their ending. He would not commit as to how he would conclude it. Can’t please everyone is pretty much the rule... but for me ......well done.

yes sky's subscription rates in the UK seemed to have decreased in price recently, a coindence perhaps?
Marilyn wrote: "I just read that many people here in the States are canceling their subscriptions to HBO."I totally see that. When I first moved into my current apartment I waited to call my cable provider so I could time out my free HBO trial in April when GOT came back on hahaha.

Im willing it too an end....... I think it'll crawl over the line going on what ive watched last few episodes, really beginning to drag & must admit i'm not enjoying all the brooding from the YA element..... the adults have so far been killed off or hardly feature. I mean Bron jus lights up a room when he enters it :) and his appearance last episode with the brothers was primo
