Terri | 19576 comments haha. Yeah, lots of puns to be had around the box in hockey.

Honestly, when I played, which was all through from little kid to 30, I actually never even thought about it. No puns, it was just 'the box'. Now that I no longer play, I suddenly notice it and realise how references to the box must have sounded to non-hockey players or people that hadn't known hockey from very young. :)

The only thing better than bacon sandwiches is bacon sandwiches with butter!

Terri | 19576 comments We've never taken our dog (furkid) to the vet to have his teeth cleaned before. He is 11 years old now. He suffers anxiety at the vet so we only take him for emergencies and vaccinations.

We decided now he's getting on (over 70 in dog years you know) that it couldn't be avoided. They took his x-ray, rang us and he needs 10 teeth taken out! What a shock.

The vet said this is the norm for a dog his age. Any dog people out there? Is this the norm?

We've spent a small fortune over the last decade, buying him chews and toys to clean his teeth and it hasn't bloody helped at all. Feeling ripped off.

Stuff his anxiety. He's going to be getting his teeth cleaned every year from now on.

Allison | 1704 comments I’ve never had dogs but I did a lot of rescue work and I know that periodontal disease is very common in older dogs. It’s rather high, some 90% of dogs suffer from gum disease after age 4, I believe. Taking the teeth out is preventive so the poor fella doesn’t get infections later. And will cut down on some of that yucky dog breath!! :P

message 15113: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments I think I have to accept that my little Smudge is getting old. :[ He doesn't act like it, but that comes with the territory because he's a Jack Russell.
He had some of that yucky dog breath. The worst rotten prawn breath. haha. We call his mouth his 'stink pit'.

Spending all this money on those chews couldn't fix it. Told the vet last year when he was in for vaccinations and they said that is normal for small breeds due to the small teeth.

Looks like maybe he had bad teeth! Maybe they shouldn't have missed it last year. :/

Otisthedog (mini schnauzer) has had 12 teeth removed about 4 yrs ago or so - he's between 11 and 12 now.

Mrs Happy still feels guilty about that :)

message 15116: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments haha. Because the poor fellow had to have the extractions? Or because you didn't get his teeth cleaned regularly?

I feel guilty as Hell that we weren't getting his teeth cleaned regularly.

Did Otis have any infections under the teeth. Vet rang and said there was a couple infections, but now the teeth are out antibiotics will clean any residual infection.

Both :)

luckily he didn't have any infections. When we take him again for his check up - I think there might be some dental work due - his breath has really gotten "aromatic" lately :)

I played Hockey in the local Hockey Club comp.

message 15139: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Well Adrian can boast down his way, but up here in Queensland the State is flooding and about to be drenched by 'apparently' the worst storm ever to hit western Queensland. Yeah righto, I'll see it when I believe it, but the torrential rain is falling in some drought affected parts which is AWESOME!

Not raining here yet. We're supposed to miss the biggest rainfalls.
Heavy rain still forecast though, so we're out putting pasture seed in paddocks that suffered badly from drought that ended here a couple weeks ago.

May (mayzie) | 968 comments Sounds like a bit of rain would be a good thing! Hope you get just enough to seed the paddocks!!

happy (happyone) | 2782 comments We are supposed to get 8" in the valleys tonight and tomorrow with another 2+ feet in the mountains. The weather guys say it would take 8 storms like this in March to get to get snow pack caught up. They don't think it is going to happen.

The wind up at the ski resorts was 90+ mph coming over the highest ridges. Avalanche danger is way high in the back country!

There were several semis blown over this morning out in the west desert on I-80 between SLC and the Nevada border.

Terri | 19576 comments They also float around (they are good swimmers) and go up trees. Not uncommon in a flood to see a Koala, a Goanna and a deadly Brown Snake up the same tree in a flood! :)

One of the best thing for a skier is to be "trapped" in the canyon overnight, You can be the first person on the slopes the next morning with all that untracked powder :)

That's so scary Robert and my Mum had a close call once crossing an open irrigation channel where the big Brown snake was halfway through a frog. She nearly stepped on it's head and he was slow to move away. The following year after a massive hail storm we found a snake in the house. It's dead now thanks to the regions tradtional and popular whacking with a shovel treatment. Those days are long gone now as those channels are closed over and this has significantly reduced mosquito and snake populations.

For the record, most aussies in the cities have never seen a snake... come visit Melbourne. You will love it.
