Send some of that snow my way :)

We did have a couple of storms last week, but nothing to really write about. The Ski resorts should be pushing 100 inches (3 meters) of snow by now - they are barely half that and the really low ones are starting to close.

Terri | 19576 comments I see in the news the Long Island area got 8 inches of snow. Is that a lot more than the norm?

Margaret (margyw) | 3341 comments I'm a little down at the moment.

Just got the news that one of our clients has been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leaukemia.

He's a nice old man and AML is a nasty disease.

message 15061: by Margaret, Sherlockian Sheila (new)

Margaret (margyw) | 3341 comments No Adrian. I work for an accountant. We're a small firm, and most of our clients have been with us for donkey's years. Clients are like family. When my mum died a couple of years ago, I received a stack of cards from clients, not to mention the hugs.

happy (happyone) | 2782 comments So sorry to hear that Margaret. You and he are in my thoughts and prayers

I've been fighting a bad chest cold that has developed into bronchitous (SP). I'll be glad to finally get rid of it!!

On a lighter note, winter finally made an appearance in Norther Utah last Sunday and Monday. Over two feet (.6m) of snow in the mountains and some areas in the valley had more than a foot.

The Highway Patrol reported 458 accidents along the 150 miles of the Wasatch front. It's funny how people who drive in snow EVERY winter forget how until after the first major storm :)

We are supposed to have more snow this weekend.

message 15063: by May (new)

May (mayzie) | 968 comments Happy, Was this the first snow this winter?

message 15064: by happy (new)

happy (happyone) | 2782 comments We had flurries and the mountains have had some, but yes this was the first major storm in the valleys. We had about 4 inches on the greass at my home, but the concrete was so warm it didn't stick to the driveway, so I didn't have to shovel :) It was worse the further south one went.

message 15065: by May (new)

May (mayzie) | 968 comments We have had a reasonably mild winter, but we have had 3 major storms, which, I believe have added up to nearly 2’ of snow. That said we had record warm temps yesterday: 68 degrees

message 15066: by Mark (new)

Mark | 1885 comments Well we are supposed to have a major snow on its way over the next week. So we shall see what we get.

Siberian Blizzards & -22 Deg on the way so say the press..... hahahaha it'll be like -3 or summit, perhaps if everyone turned down their stats & wore jumpers again it wouldn't be such an issue when they went outside in winter.

They say the next decade its due to get cold again in Britain & come 2030 you'll be able to skate on the Thames??

We will end up with 1 to 2 inches of snow and everything will be in meltdown as normal.

Adrian Deans (adriandeans) | 293 comments How's this for irony...actually irony probably isn't quite the word but something like that...

Besides being a comparatively obscure novelist, I also write for Australia's biggest football mag and website (442). This morning - first time ever - I was approached by a Peruvian TV producer to be interviewed by skype on their show about the Australian team who will play Peru in the World Cup in June.

A perfect chance to push my profile and wares in a whole new country, you'd think...except that my face is currently covered in bandages after major plastic surgery to remove BCCs.

Life...don't talk to me about life...

message 15072: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments And how do you think the Australian Team will go in Peru, Adrian?

Bummer about the interview, that would suck! And the BCC. Sorry to hear it. Hope they get it all.

Does Timmy Cahill still play for you? was one of the stars for the Toffees under Moyes, showed real passion & commitment always when he put on a blue shirt

message 15079: by Adrian (new)

Adrian Deans (adriandeans) | 293 comments Cahill is 38 and back playing for Millwall. He'll probably be in the squad for Russia. We've never been blessed with a lot of strikers.

That happened to me, but after several days I got them back.

message 15091: by happy (new)

happy (happyone) | 2782 comments Were in a cycle of a snow storm every 3 or 4 days. Some of been pretty good, and other just a skiff. Our next one is scheduled for Thursday/Friday and is supposed to drop 3 to 6 inches in the valleys and upwards of 2+ feet in the mountains.

The last one (yesterday/today) is hardly worth mentioning :)

Terri | 19576 comments Adrian wrote: "Cahill is 38 and back playing for Millwall. He'll probably be in the squad for Russia. We've never been blessed with a lot of strikers."

Isn't that the truth.
The strikers we do have don't seem to realise it has to go INSIDE the box. Nothing deflates the Aussie supporter more than shots, one after the other, going over the top, off the side..exhausting. At least make the keeper work to keep the ball out.
I never used to get what people saw in players like former Aussie midfielder, Bresciano. A whole lot of swing and a miss.

message 15095: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments sorry, prob shouldn't say 'inside the box', I was a hockey player. :)

message 15098: by Mark (new)

Mark | 1885 comments I tried to get to work this morning and failed spectacularly, only managed to reach my local bus station which is a mile from my house.

So I having my first ever snow day. Roads are blocked by accidents and snow so the police have closed and blocked them off.

I coach my wife's team and a couple of years ago before their grand final, the girls were getting changed and vaguely watching the GF before theirs.

One of the goalkeepers had a real mouth on her and never stopped shrieking at her team. After a particularly effusive outburst I shuddered and said to the girls: Jeez, imagine being next door on her wedding night.

No sooner had I said it, she absolutely screamed at her team: Get in the box! Get in the box!

The Avoca girls still talk about that...
