Margaret (margyw) | 3341 comments Loving the fact though that the attacker in the pub got his. In the form of thrown bottles, pint glasses and chairs.

Never, ever piss off a "sarf" Londoner.

And most of the drinkers would've been locals. Everyone has a local in London. Usually two. One near where you live and one where you work. Hell, I'm just a visitor but by now even I have a local. I have a drink or two at the Queen's Larder.

Yes Nicki, that's the London I love. Hell, that spirit is one of the reasons why I love London as much as I do.

When I was over there in 2015 a woman got hit by a bus and trapped under it. 30 passersby LIFTED the bus off her!

Terri | 19576 comments Talk about typical Londoners..what about typical Aussies. Of the two Australians dead in the attack, the one who was a nurse ran back to help injured and was killed for doing so. Heartbreaking.

Lot of heroes on the day however. What about the Spaniard who lost his life belting an attacker with a skateboard to try and save a woman who was being stabbed.

Very sad day in history.

Terri | 19576 comments I'm going to be on GR very little for a while.
We were supposed to get our Internet fixed yesterday, instead, the Telco main call centre turned off our Internet by mistake. We were told they couldn't simply turn it back on now and we would have to wait over a month for the Internet.

It is a big stupid mess and we are so angry.

I am currently 'hotspotting' off my husband's work iPad. He left it home with me today so I can do the group's monthly Poll.
But unfortunately he needs his iPad for work and can't leave it home with me often.

Hoping to sort out this internet mess and get them to work out how to push the right bloody buttons to turn our internet back on sooner than a month.

Well, one can dream....
Are there any other ISPs there?

message 14365: by Margaret, Sherlockian Sheila (new)

Margaret (margyw) | 3341 comments Not where Terri is. Rural communities get shafted by the telcos down here. There is only one provider.

message 14366: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Hi all. It has been very stressful.
Hi Jane, yes, we still would have had to pay them...$100 a month for a service they weren't providing.

There is a glimmer of hope. My husband spoke to their Complaints section. They have given us a bit of free data on my mobile so that I can Hotspot off it until everything gets fixed on 19th July.
They are also saying they may be able to turn our net back on via a special application.

To explain it better...

We have a Government scheme here called NBN. It is a new network of internet that encompasses all the newest technologies to supply net to Australia ie fibre optic, satellite and fixed tower.
As they roll it out, the ancient copper wiring will get turned off.
It gets turned off in our area in about a year and my particular area moves to Fixed Tower (antenna on roof dorected towards a tower and then fibre optic from tower).
Our wifi comes via the old copper lines as adsl2+. While we had a year to leave adsl2 and sign up to the new nbn network, our adsl2 Router died a couple weeks back.
Our Telco told us it would cost $200 for a new adsl2 router, which would become useless in a year once we were moved to the NBN. Or, we could sign up to the new NBN now and they'd give us a free NBN Router.
We signed up.
The technician came out yesterday to hook up our new nbn internet service, but he didn't do anything because he didn't have the right equipment. Said he'd have to put in a request and come back in a few weeks.
The Telco computer system had us scheduled for the change over from adsl to nbn that day the Tech was here. So it deleted our adsl2 connection. But because the Tech didn't do the NBN instal, this meant they'd jumped the gun. Disconnected our adsl2 too early.

Despite my pleas and lectures, they told me the Tech wouldn't be back until 19th July to do the install he was supposed to do yesterday, and that they can't turn the adsl2 back on now that it was deleted.

It is a big stuff up and so frustrating. They can turn the darn adsl2 off, why can't they turn the darn thing back on???? Seems simple to me.

Hubby finally spoke to a Complaints person today who said there may be a way to turn the adsl2 back on. We are now waiting for her to ring back to confirm it can be done.

...to be cont :')

P.S I'll be able to get back on net later and try to do Polls now they've put data on my mobile and I can Hotspot off it.

Jane | 3480 comments Good Lord, that sounds confusing! Glad you do have a temporary solution!

message 14368: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (last edited Jun 08, 2017 04:18PM) (new)

Terri | 19576 comments It is confusing...and very, very irritating. :-)

Especially seeing as yesterday when I said we were waiting for them to call back to confirm they can reconnect our adsl? Well they never called back. Hubby called them again and they said they had no record of him calling the first time and no record of a staff member telling him they may be able to turn adsl back on.

Hubby said they were basically accusing him of lying, even though he had a record of the call being made and lasting 37minutes, and I had a Text on my phone from them confirming they were putting free data on my mobile.

The whole thing has blown our minds.

Hi Lia. I'm going to keep that text and never delete. It is the best proof that they had a call from us. Their behaviour has been so strange. Not sure what to make of it.

Renata (rderis) | 236 comments Teri,

They should be able to turn your old service back on at their end. Copper is copper. Connection is there for you to tap into. Probably have a policy of not doing so, cause they are rolling out new service? You might try asking for "level 2 technical support" when you call? The person you talked to first just might not know how, and so is being obstructive. July 19th? That's crazy, when he didn't have the right stuff? Umm. Kind of his fault. Got to love monopolies. Not. I hope they straighten it out. So sorry for the PIA.

message 14375: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments We think they are going to turn adsl back on tomorrow. At least they said they would. :/ But the last time they said they were going to turn it back on was when they didn't and when we rang to ask why it never came on we were told they had no record of that discussion.
Who knows, may not come on tomorrow and when we ring they may lie again and say they have no record of discussion.

I think they called it a naked adsl. I don't care what it is wearing, just turn it back on!

But I will enjoy it. :) I've got a seat dead centre, 3 rows from the front. :D

One of my friends from my teens in Boston is now singing the role of Jesus and has been for years on and off Broadway - I just saw him in it on a trip to Boston a few months ago. That was cool - particularly as I remember us all listening to the soundtrack and belting it out together as kids!

May (mayzie) | 968 comments Yes, Renata, I am from New England: Seacoast NH specifically. No Ace & I missed each other by a few days: I didn't get to SXM until June 3rd.
Traveling is my 2nd favorite thing to do... reading a good book would be the first.

message 14392: by Ace (new)

Ace (aceonroam) | 19 comments Renata, its a beautiful place, lots of historic buildings so I'll need to do some research on what's been happening here over the last few centuries. All of the buildings are pastel coloured and its so clean, it looks like the locals get up super early before the tourists arrive and give it a good scrub down. Lot's of people here thanks to the massive cruise liners that stop by. An added plus for us is that the Americas Cup is on. NZ beat Sweden to get into the finals yesterday so my kiwi hubby is pretty happy. The finals are on Saturday so we will probably take another trip over to the other side of the island to watch it live. We are anchored in St George's on the east side. Weather wise, it was only 24 degrees this morning. I was freezing and had to put my hoodie on! An hour later I was wearing shorts n T-shirt again.

Renata (rderis) | 236 comments Agreed May, travel is right up there with reading. I'm missing New England as the southern heat boils my blood and slows my breath. Reasons we drink iced tea (or stronger) in quantity down here!

Ace, you make Bermuda sound inviting. I've always wanted to check it out, I've been to the Bahamas twice, but never Bermuda. On my TBV list 😊

Years ago, I spent a great deal of time in London while married to a Brit (my local was in Wandsworth, Margaret), I'm longing to go back. Shocked by attacks tearing at the city. Also wish the US had better world news. Stupid self obsessed yanks lol.
