All my talk of the weather being rather mild all January and now we're under a "winter weather advisory" with 4" expected tonight :D
Allie wrote: "All my talk of the weather being rather mild all January and now we're under a "winter weather advisory" with 4" expected tonight :D"I'm so glad that storm decided to form over your state instead of mine. I'm not looking forward to being in school until the middle of June to make up the snow days we've already had.
I have to be at school supervising state mandated testing. Ugh. Bright side, I get to read most of the next week.
Saturday was Mrs Happy and my's symphony day. We had a guest conductor from England, Richard Egarr. It was an all Bach concert and he was also the pianist. I've never seen that combination before. I have seen violinist also conduct, but not a pianist. To get to the point, the weather has been awful since last Thursday - rain, wind, sleet. When Maestro Egarr came on to the stage and before starting the concert, he talked to the concert goers and asked a very pertinent question - "What has happened to the weather - Are you trying to make me feel at home?" It got a good laugh.
He spent a lot of time talking to the audience -very unusual. There was even a youngster (sounded about 3 or 4) that cried out during one of the pieces. He just look over his shoulder and gave a thumbs up sign and when the piece was over asked the youngster if he/she was enjoying the concert.
Sounds like you and Mrs Happy had a night to remember on Saturday. Good on you two for taking time to have these date nights. Great way to stay connected. :-)
happy, what a wonderful way to pass a stormy night! Our weather has been dismal - cold and rainy - for most of February and March.

Hi Happy,
Nope, we're safe from the major landfall from the cyclone, but we are about to get poleaxed by the rain associated with it. They are predicting 400mm in 24 hours. Bit of a worry with regards to flooding,
We are safe from rising rivers and creeks, however there is danger with agricultural dams bursting on the farm, and that much rain can cause run off flooding in our downstairs rooms.
Alice wrote: "happy, what a wonderful way to pass a stormy night! Our weather has been dismal - cold and rainy - for most of February and March."Ours has been very March like - very variable. The first week of March was rainy and cold, then it turned warm and nice for a 10 days or so and since last Thursday it has been a constant soft rain for the most part. Yesterday for only the second time since we had him (9yrs), Otisthedog quit on a walk. About half way done, he just turned around and started home.
Today was nice and sunny again, but chilly. We have two more rainstorms in the forecast for March and if they come-to-pass, it will be the wettest March on record (1850s)- over 4 inches (10 cm) of water for the month. That is nothing to Terri of course, but I supposedly live in a desert :)

Terri, I'm hoping that the flooding is minimal. Take care.
We on the other hand are moored in Wallilabou at St Vincent and the Grenadines where the bay is so calm and the sunset is gorgeous right now.
I'll check in again soon as and when I find the free Wi-Fi's…

Stay safe Terri!
Thanks Margaret, Alice and happy we count our lucky stars daily. I love this group so much. Just want to also say it's sad that Shannon Elizabeth is no longer here with us, there's a different dynamic in the past year but I know many here still think of her and hope that she is resting in peace.
Oh Ace, I didn't know Shannon Elizabeth passed. I wasn't sure about the name, so I went back to check the threads, and yes, I had a nice long chat in February/March last year with Shannon and Kimber and happy about history lessons in our school days. She sounded so understanding and modest and friendly. May she rest in peace.
Thanks Ace and Alice.Say what? Shannon Elizabeth passed? Oh that is sad. Thankyou for mentioning Ace.
Had a look back at old discussions.Found where others had linked to her obituary. http://www.deberryfuneraldirectors.co...
If others, like Alice and I, did not know she had passed, take some time to remember her through the obituary.
IIRC she was on GR the night before she passed and didn't even hint that she wasn't doing well. She seemed to be a sweet lady!
I read that when I looked back.Goes to show, books and these book groups can provide a place to escape to if you need it. When your life is tough going, some people find solace in escaping to a place where you can just forget, or push out, the bad for a while.

Thank you for the link Terri. I remember her saying how she loved her 8th grade history teacher; and she recommended to me a movie about the American Civil War. Nothing that she said gave the slightest hint that she had been sick. It's so sad. Like you said Terri, some people come to Goodreads to find an escape, to catch a breath, from the pressures of life.
Speaking of books, Alice, how is your historical fiction going? You are welcome to introduce it in the right era thread when you are ready.
Oh, and I nearly forgot, Alice I think I saw in the What are you Reading Now thread when I was in there earlier, that you began Corrag this month?Did you realise we had done a group read of it ages ago?
This is the thread if you wanted to see what others had to say https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Terri wrote: "Speaking of books, Alice, how is your historical fiction going? You are welcome to introduce it in the right era thread when you are ready."Terri, thank you for asking about my novel. It's undergoing editing and proofing at the publisher's and is tentatively scheduled for release in July this year. I recently wrote a blog post about it. Here's the link: https://www.goodreads.com/author_blog....
I'll post in the appropriate era thread when I get clearance from the publisher about the title name.

Thanks for pointing me to the group discussion on the book. I've added my own two cents to that thread :)
I've just gonethrough my Goodreads inbox and deleted my many pages of messages.I must have been bordering on being a message hoarder as I had about 1000 messages in my inbox dating back to December 2013.
All gone now. Fresh start. No more hoarding. :-)

We are painting the house inside and out right now. It feels like a fresh start. Every time a room gets done I feel my heart sing.
I know! I get butterflies in the tummy just thinking about it. Been here 13 years and a fresh start for the place is well overdue! Change is as good as a holiday.
This is the twelfth year I've been in my apartment, but the notion of repainting it by myself is just too daunting :(
Is it a large apartment, Alice? Or is it full to the brim with furniture (and books). :-)One of the most daunting things I found to begin with was the fact we had to move all the furniture and 'stuff'. That was an exhausting task....and then to put it back in again. Not as much fun as the actual painting bit.
So true, which is why I am in awe of your efforts to paint the whole house. I can face only one room a year!!

It's not large - just two bedrooms, a den (which I use as a study) and a living/dining room with an open kitchen. 1,100 sq. ft in all. I have the basic furniture, but I don't think I'm up to the task of moving the heavy stuff (as I had sciatica before and cannot exert myself too strenuously). Nowadays, even cleaning the two balconies is a bit much for me :(
I hate painting but my sister loves it, so most of our house has been repainted 3 or 4 times over the last 15 years. Even the outside has been painted twice. What colours are you going with Terri? Something neutral or something more dramatic?
Alice wrote: "Nowadays, even cleaning the two balconies is a bit much for me :( ..."Do you have good views off your balcony Alice? Or are you too far from the ocean?
I got a new car yesterday!! I am so super stoked, it's beautiful. It's a black 2017 Mini Cooper S with black rims, so it looks very stealthy. Hopefully stealthy enough to keep me from getting any speeding tickets, 'cause boy can it go fast. Something like this one: http://gtcarlot.com/colors/car/115924...

Not really, Dawn. Right in front is a community carpark. I only have a distant slant view of the river (mostly blocked by foliage in the summer). The complex I live in is near the Fraser South Arm. It's great to take strolls on the river bank promenade. The sunset view is gorgeous at times.
