Thanks happy. I've been writing since I was about 12. Have shared fan fiction around on various sites, but never thought anything I'd written was good enough to be considered professional.

This story is straight out Sherlock Holmes (I mentally used Jeremy Brett and David Burke as my templates), with a twist of humour. I find it impossible to write anything without humour.

Alice Poon (alice_poon) I'm getting ready to head back to snow covered Vancouver! Have had a fantastic time in my birthplace catching up with family and old friends. Also had a nice face to face chat with my publisher (for my upcoming historical epic set in 17th century China) on various interesting topics ranging from politics to philosophy to food! Am glad to have done research on my next historical novel about late Ming courtesans!

Ace (aceonroam) | 19 comments Wow, the end of the year just crept right up didn't it. Taking opportunity to wish everyone a happy festive season and a wonderful year of reading in 2017.

I'll be off in a few sleeps, on the first leg of our voyage to Walvis Bay in Namibia. I'll check in as often as I can. If you want to try to see what's what our trip, you could check @SVROAM on Facebook. (Alice, I am working on a Twitter account too, so will post details down the track). Otherwise I'll catch y'all from the next Starbucks I encounter ;)

message 14017: by happy (new)

happy (happyone) | 2782 comments I woke up to white Christmas. Yesterday it was in the low 40's (5-6 C) and raining so all the snow we had was gone. It started snowing about midnight and there is 6 inches (12-13 cm) of snow in the yard!

message 14018: by Alice (new)

Alice Poon (alice_poon) It's a sunny Christmas Day here in Richmond, about 2 C, and no snow. The snow cover we had on December 18 was all washed away by rain the next day!

This evening I'm going to glue myself to the TV set, watching "The Hollow Crown: Richard III" (for two-and-a-half-hours), and thereafter a documentary about the Greeks "From Cavemen to Kings". Yay!

Patricia | 103 comments Merry Christmas! Fairly warm here in North Carolina. Hope you all have plenty of new books to read!

message 14020: by Gretchen (new)

Gretchen (eab2012) George Michael?!? When is 2016 getting to the point when it's never going to dance again? I feel like we are slowly being robbed of everything that made the 80s great. Someone needs to go check on Molly Ringwald.

I did May. Put aside the book I was reading and reread Watership Down.

happy (happyone) | 2782 comments The weather here has been CRAZY!!! Last week it was -5F and we had close to 20 inches of snow in the valleys -much more in the mountains. Today it hit 50F with fairly heavy rain and the powers that be are worried about flooding!

All I can say is that the skiers are happy - we are about 150% of normal snow pack for the water year, inspite of a very dry Oct/Nov - hence the worry about flooding and avalanches

Lynne Pennington (bluemoonladylynne) | 54 comments What happy gets in the way of weather moves east into my neck of the woods. Over the weekend it was so frigid we had to force the dogs out to get things done. Yesterday it was 60 and the snow melted at an awe-inspiring rate.

They're by all different authors and it's a bit pot luck, to be honest. Some are excellent, but others are downright dreadful.

Stand by for a long list:
How to Be a Victorian
Lazybones
[book:Elementary: All-New Tales of the Elemental Masters..."

Not read of the shetland Islands books but I have enjoyed the tv series.

body work is good, keeps us interested between books.

message 14036: by Margaret, Sherlockian Sheila (new)

Margaret (margyw) | 3341 comments I dip in and out of Ann Cleeves series when the whim takes me. Those two books were on $6 each, so couldn't pass up that bargain. :)

I'm getting the full compendium of Body Work in one volume... I couldn't find it when I was doing the list. :p Hopefully they'll do the others in that format too.

Glad you found something interesting on my list. :)

I'm getting How to Be a Victorian as a reference book. If I intend writing more period Holmes, I need to know what I'm talking about. :)

Taken at one of the local ski resorts that received more than 5 feet of snow in the last week

Holy snow fall, Batman!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We've had a really mild winter here in Michigan. Really mild! It's been 50 degrees in January and I think we only had one snowstorm so far of maybe a couple inches. Makes me worried for the summer :/
message 14044: by happy (last edited Jan 26, 2017 06:40PM) (new)
happy (happyone) | 2782 comments We've really been dumped on this year. We've already reached the average annual snow pack in the mountains with the two traditionally wettest months to come (Mar/Apr) As of today that particular resort has 142 inch base - this yr is earliest the resorts have reached 100 inches in years - 2010/11 at least!
Some of the school districts in Northern Utah have already had 3 snow days - Utah doesn't do snow days :) I can't remember the last time they took one!
message 14045: by May (new)
May (mayzie) | 968 comments We're having a winter like Allie. I think we have had only 2 plowable storms to date in Seacoast NH. So far, our winter is much like last year, which led to serious water shortages and many wells going dry. Much as I hate it, pleeeeze let it snow!!!
message 14046: by happy (last edited Jan 27, 2017 07:46AM) (new)
happy (happyone) | 2782 comments As much as I complain about the snow - we really need it. What we drink and water the lawns with in the summer is falling right now. The experts say except for Lake Powell, the resevoirs should fill this year. Than didn't happen last year. We have been in a drought the last 5 yrs, so any moisture falling from the sky is welcome.
Jane | 3480 comments I'm glad I live where I live -- Upstate NY somewhat inland but not near the East Coast or as far west as the Midwest, so we're getting some snow but are not inundated.
Allison | 1704 comments Now that I talked about not getting snow this year, guess what's been happening all morning? ;)
But so far it's really just a light dusting.
I hope it snows loads for you guys, Happy!
Snow, what is that? Not had any snow that lasted more than a morning down in the south of England. Just cold followed by wet etc....
