I have one eye that doesn't focus properly. Most of the time it's fine, but rapid changes cause vertigo and nausea. Action movies are a no go. I can watch them on the tv/dvd, because I can look away and focus on something else. But that's not possible in a cinema. I even have problems with some documentary type shows, because of the rapid cut away shots, and the use of hand held cameras. The River Cottage series' are real buggers for that.

I could never watch that cop show NYPD Blue due to its quick moving shots and shakey camera shots. That show was out of control.Andy, that's one helluva name for your condition! Hahaha!

Sport does for me, with the cameras whipping in/out & yes an action film has to be watched in segments. My favourite though is shopping especially down supermarket aisles where I stand at one end, focus on a spot & walk in a straight line...... :) soon starts to strobe & get tunnel vision effect...... I'm proper fecked when they have a change about & move everything!!
Terri wrote: "I saw the ad for the Doctor Strange movie last night. Has Mads Mikkelsen in it...mmmmm sorry to sound like a lech, but I like me some Mads. :-}"Oh Terri, I loved Mads Mikkelsen in the movie "Michael Kohlhaas", which I saw at the 2013 French Film Festival while in Hong Kong - my review of the movie. It was the first and only time I experienced this actor.
Doesn't look like there is much good to vote for in Historical Fiction again this year. Anyone doing a write-in??
Yeah, not much on it that looks interesting. Usually I can find something I like but I'm not even sure I know any of these books.

I did -- for Vita Brevis / Ruth Downie.
I don't have much I've read in HF published this year so I'm writing in the latest Maisie Dobbs, Journey to Munich.
Hey, when either of you mods are around, last months book is still on the homepage. GRs seriously needs to fix this, how hard can it possibly be to have the system do it automatically anyway!!

I'll poke Terri, Dawn, I've got no idea how to change it. :p
Its easy Margaret just go to our bookshelf and change its status to "read".Change the Cornwell to "currently reading".

TELL ME ABOUT IT! So annoying. I always input the finish date for the currently reading book and a start date for the to read book. And yet GR can't make one drop off and the other show up.
It is one of those little jobs that regularly slips my mind...until I come to do the next poll. Then I remember and kick myself all over again.
Thanks Margaret for fixing. And thanks Dawn for reminding. And thanks Ace for helping Lady Margaret out.:-)
Now that I know, I'll keep any eye on it. I'll just have to remember that we're a day ahead of the USA>.
No worries ladies, happy to help. Its very quiet on GR lately... good to have Dawn shaking things up again.
I am currently working on 8 books at the moment. Does everyone else have a problem with sticking to one book at a time? I feel like a spoilt brat.
Are you normally one at a time kinda reader?I used to be, when I was much younger, but 8 at the same time is getting a bit ridiculous.
8 at one time is nothing!! :)I typically have 3 on the go at the same time but I have been known to have a dozen.
I like to have a paper book and two audiobooks in progress at the same time. Paper for home, an audio on the tablet for the car and another audio on the phone for bike/walk/gym. It seems to be necessary to have separate ones for commuting and exercise, must be keep the two activities different in my mind.
When I'm reading lots of paper books is when I get crazy and I haven't had time lately so my currently reading looks a little more normal than usual.
Have you seen the latest Jack Reacher movie Ace?? I see you're reading one of the books. My Dad reads that series and he always finds it amusing that Tom Cruise is playing Jack. He says he looks nothing like the descriptions in the books.

I'm an old goat but I'm still a one-at-a-time reader--or maybe 2 concurrently.
I love my audiobooks too but none of the 8 are audio. I have to just take a day off and read....I must admit to being quite distracted by the BBC news in the last 24 hours and not having read many pages due to lack of concentration. Let's see if I can get a couple under my belt tomorrow and then I'll feel less overwhelmed.

I prefer the term a "traditional" reader :) Mind sometimes i'll have a history book on the go too & read a few pages every so oft
What is traditional about reading one book at a time?? You're just trying to make it sound better than old-goat!!

Have to call you billy goat gruff now.
Sad isn't it? My sister had this hope of seeing him in concert someday but that's not gonna happen now.

I have seen absolutely NOTHING to vote for in the GR lists this year.Has anyone else? The few I have read I did not think rated being on the lists in the first place.

Jane, I voted for News of the World in the history category. I loved it.
I can usually find one or two that I've read and liked but this year I've just voted for a few authors that I like even though I haven't read these particular books.
I voted for one book which was the only one on the list i'd read, mind i'd only given it a 3 star rating so hardly a ringing endorsement........ tbh i think the choices are always fairly rank...
Good luck to all our members from New Zealand. Take care.As an Italian, my heart is with all the people suffering from the consequences of the earthquake. Let us know how you are doing please.
