Happy New Year everybody. I swore off the internet from Xmas to after New Years long weekend, so I got my merry Christmas' in to this thread on time, but didn't make HNY on time. :)
Back from Costa Rica where i went down a quarter mile water slide, had a mud bath (sort of, girls really got into it), had a monkey sit on my head (no monkey on my back) and got some quality beach time! Love it down there....daughter Shelby and I almost missed our return flights accidentally on purpose!!!
I have just finished reading and reviewing The Keys of Egypt: The Race to Crack the Hieroglyph Code
. Good to put other books about Egypt into context.
Terri wrote: "When are you buying a place and moving, Bobby?"Looked at homes...again....but still have 2 of our 6 kids in school. There is a wonderful International School there and after our 11th grader finishes we might actually take the plunge and our youngest one would do well there.
Hope all is well there with you now. Miss all the old chats with you and everyone in the early days!

The Minnesota Vikings broke their gjallarhorn before the game stated today. I'm thoroughly convinced Odin saw this as an insult and that is the reason why they lost today's game.
May wrote: "Oh, gawd. Is that why?? My heart aches for their young kicker."I'm blaming Odin or Adrian Peterson. As a life long Vikings' fan, I know better than to put my trust in a kicker.

"Twas the holder!! Methinks!!

First off "Laces out!!!!!"
Secondly, as a life long Vikings fans you and I should both know better than to put our trust in the Vikings...... *sigh*
I was yelling "Laces Out!" so loud at the tv that the twins spent the next hour running around the house yelling it too.
I'm a happy little camper. Got a nice sized gift card for Christmas. I now have 11 books on their way to me. Nice to make a dent in my wish list. :D
Damn. Beat me to it.(For the non-Austraians: Dick Smith is an electronics chain store in Australia that went into receivership first week of January. They knew it was going to happen of course, byt they still took people's money for gift cards over the Christmas season. When they went into receivership they said they'd not be honoring those gift cards or any layby deposits....lot of people got stung by it)
Sheesh, that's terrible!!Nice to know the Christmas spirit is alive and well in the corporate world...
So are Australians going to do the American thing and sue for millions as a result of the mental anguish brought on by an invalid gift card?
Certainly a low act. They should have stopped selling gift cards and taking Laybys by November, as that was when they admitted they were having financial trouble.Unless you see the news every day, you wouldn't have known they admitted they were struggling.
Gretchen wrote: "So are Australians going to do the American thing and sue for millions as a result of the mental anguish brought on by an invalid gift card?"No. Hahaha. I can't see Aussies going to too much bother.
They can submit a claim to the receivor company. If there's any money left some people may get some of their moneyback.
On the upside, one of the supermarket chains, Coles, who sold Dick Smith gift cards have offered to swap the cards for gift cards of identical value for their own group (which includes two large department chain stores).
Saw that the other day. Very good of them. The banks are looking into similar, for people who have used their credit card 'points' to buy DS gift cards.
Americans would have taken over their corporate office and held the CEO and anyone else inside captive until there was restitution!! And it would have taken place before they could take flight with all the cash!
Woke up this morning to see David Bowie has passed. I didn't even realize he had been fighting cancer. Sad.
I was never into Bowie. I liked a couple of his songs when I heard them, but never seeked them out.Even so, he was such a cultural icon that it is a shock that he is no longer alive. A larger than life character.

I am not a Bowie fan either. However, one year for Halloween I did play David Bowie to my brother's Freddie Mercury but that's a story only to be told over adult beverages. Anyway, I don't think you can deny the impact he had on pop culture. Like him or not, most people can identify several of his songs and recognize the Goblin King.
I would be one of those people lol.... never understood the David Bowie fandom. Other than "Under Pressure" (and that's because I love Freddie Mercury), I can't name one dang song, have no idea what this Goblin King is about and Bowie's face kinda scared me. Didn't he believe he was an alien or something? I don't get him.
Allie wrote: "I would be one of those people lol.... never understood the David Bowie fandom. Other than "Under Pressure" (and that's because I love Freddie Mercury), I can't name one dang song, have no idea wha..."The movie Labyrinth - Bowie played Jareth, the Goblin King.
Labyrinth and Legend came out around the same time. I was in love with both of those movies. You should check them out Allie.
Allie wrote: "Never heard of it...Probably not something I'd be into anyway lol."
What kind of child of the 80s are you? :)

Best tropical visits for me (and you may appreciate this with kids Gretchen) are in Bali Island - east, west and south coasts are all tropical - you can h..."
If I move to Bali Island, can I have all that plus the beach?
The girls are not invited on this trip. Grandma wants to get them to Disney World in the near future for Christmas one year. The twins aren't even allowed to stay overnight in the camper at this point so I think we have a while before that can happen.
