Morning. Had a four day break over Easter. :) Spent most of it reading. I think I broke Goodreads trying to update my books. :D
My four day weekend is almost over. It's back to work tomorrow morning. I also had a very productive reading weekend!
My little twinkers are three today! It's cold, wet, and raining but of course, they still want to be outside racing up and down our street on their new bikes. Mom would like to be inside with some tea and a book. I'm so over this weather. It could be real spring any day now.
Hi all. Still off GR. Going into town this week. Hope to get my laptop to the computer dudes to get it looked at.Will drop in again soon...hope you are all well.
Leaving for Panama in the morn!! Looking at houses and private schools while the wee wife is at a 3 day conference on moving and working in Panama!! Might have to check out the beaches while I'm there. Just sayin'....
You like company right?? I think we need to have the next Ancient & Medieval town meeting in Panama...
Did the post button just get smaller or is that my imagination?? I could swear it used to be twice as big...
It HAS gotten smaller. Techies are fooling around with the cosmetic aspects of GR again, I guess. I've noticed other little things.
I thought a few things looked smaller but that's the only one I could specifically pick out as changed. They must have made it skinnier because I keep moving my cursor to low to hit it.
I'm curious to see how many countries I could check off my list. http://www.bbc.com/culture/story/2013...
Hi all. I am now back. Picked up my fixed laptop on the weekend. Wifi not entirely fixed. They put in a stronger wifi adaptor card. It has fixed the problem, but the wifi still isn't 100%. It made the wifi work though, so I am happy. They said the root of the problem must be in the motherboard. And that was too expensive to get looked at right now, so I am settling with mid strength wifi.
Welcome back Terri! Computers can be such temperamental beasts. My old PC just died one day - that was motherboard. Good luck with the wifi.
I wish Mother Nature would make up her mind, is it spring or winter :) Last Monday as I went for my walk and the bank sign said it was 80 degrees, the next day as I wandered the streets the same bank sign read 48 degrees. Also Thursday it snowed on the valley floors, while the mountains got about 12 inches. Today it was 71 and Tuesday it's supposed to snow againNot that I'm complaining about the rain/snow .... to loudly, we really need the water. The snow pack this yr is about 50% of normal. Might be some very brown/dry crunchy lawns come August.

If you didn't live half a globe away, I know a guy who fixes those kinds of things for pretty cheap.

My poor girls are frustrated. They want to be outside but the wind is blowing so much crud around that their allergies are tormenting them to no end right now. If the wind would just die down, the weather would be perfect right now.
Welcome back Terri! There's definitely a difference around here when you're gone.We had two BEAUTIFUL days this weekend after a week of rain. Spent the whole time outdoors cleaning up and now today there's wind and a little rain blowing all the crap I just cleaned up, back all over the yard. Ugh.
Boy Terri. You are driving me crazy. Never know what you are up to. I have been reading and writing reviews without your insightful input , fortunately we have all the other GRers to help me out. Also in honor of you I am beginning a future learn course about WW1 and the Aussies who died there in Gallipoli

Well I am back now and am willing to assist and inspire as much as I can. :D
That is wonderful that you are doing the Gallipoli course! My great grandfather fought there. Made it back luckily. But Gallipoli is a hugely important event to the Australians...not in a good way of course.
It was at Gallipoli that my nation lost its innocence. It was an horrific campaign.
This year is the 100 Year Anniversary of the ANZACs (which began with Gallipoli) and it is quite a big deal over here.
Glad people are back. I loved the weather reports. Those who did not freeze to death on Good Friday enjoyed a beautiful Easter morning except for me. I had fever, vertigo and nausea. My boys, husband and I always do egg dyeing the night before Easter but not this year. I was hanging onto my spinning bed for dear life. Next year we will make up for this year. My father always took the grandchildren to Easter church services where he showed them off. All other babies were in the church nursery, except ours. One Easter, I had just had a baby and my sister was expecting. Neither of us had an Easter frock that would fit, and she and I had planned on skipping Easter services that year. Daddy would not hear to our plans, so my sister and I ended up in church wearing matching dotted Swiss blue house coats!
Thanks everyone for the welcome back! Good to catch up with you all.Gee, I wish I had access to your mate with the cheap computer fixing rates, Gretchen. :)

I once ripped into the RSL here in Melbourne. I went to the dawn service on ANZAC Day. They played the Australian national anthem but not the New Zealand one. I bailed up the president afterwards and tore into him.
U should look into this course, straightforward stories re some who died at Gallipoli and the reaction of those that were left behind. If you had a relative who was there your insight would be great. My father and uncle were in WW 2 and my spouse fought in the 1973 war in israel, so I have some knowlege re people who have lost someone in a war, but this is prior to those wars, when people actually believed it was the war to end all wars, and how they dealt with the loss of their own so far away.
Back from Panama! Whirlwind trip....we were in the middle of the Summit of the Americas! Was like a military state...soldiers with automatic weapons everywhere. Even Obama was there.

Those in NZ go to a service in their country and commemorate the Kiwi element of ANZAC. No Australian forgets what the NZ stands for, Margaret.
On ANZAC Day we are remembering our fallen. The Australians who were in the ANZ Corp. Our own fallen. Our family members. That is who our services are for. In the process of doing that, we give a tip of the hat to NZ, but we don't have to do anything else.
In NZ their services are for the Kiwi fallen and the emphasis over there is on Kiwis, not Australians.
So we respect our brothers in arms and some services do play both Anthems, but they don't have to. In Australia, ANZAC Day is a day for Australians to mourn the deaths of our fellow Australians
When you go to NZ, their ANZAC Day is to mourn the deaths of their fellow Kiwis.
ANZAC Day is not one day for both countries held in unison in Australia. Both countries have an ANZAC Day seperately.
If Kiwis living in Australia would like to pay respects to the fallen and can't get to NZ to remember Kiwi fallen, they can drop by our Aussie services.
Bobby, You were running with some high flyers! Did you play any golf or attend a fund raiser? Since I gave up Fox News for TCM, I have been blissfully unaware of what is going on in the world, but I have this good friend, Bobby, who is in touch with movers and shakers, and he keeps me up to date on the important world events!
Couldn't get near the golf courses, spent $35 on a cab to the Panama Canal (it was closed!!! because the Presidents were visiting that day), had to ALWAYS carry passports everywhere due to security, major roads closed in downtown Panama City causing massive traffic jams and the day I decided to get outa town and head to the beaches of Coronado so did 700,000 other people!! Still.....wonderful locals as well as ex-pats and we did get to look at 3 house in Coronado that we loved and will need to go back soon to make some real decisions about relocating. Its a toss up between Panama and Costa Rica.
I just filled a tote with books to sell at a local used book store. I still don't have enough shelf space for books. I have such terrible problems.
I haven't even got to the girls' books yet. I need to get through them before the end of the school year so I can get what we don't want donated to the school.
It makes me smile to think of all the people you'll make happy by your donating or selling used. :) Paying it forward.
There's a program called Imagination Library that sends my twins a new book every month until they are five. My oldest was in the program too. I end up with two of the same book every month and now it's getting to the point where some of the books are doubles and triples. I didn't pay for the books to begin with and it only makes sense to give them to someone who will use them. There are so many kids who don't have access to books outside of school or a public library. I do keep quite a few of the girls' books that I've purchased (or grandma has purchased) and box them up thinking someday they might want to read them to their children. As far as my books, when I sell them to the used book store, I can get store credit if I want. I think Mr. Gretchen is hoping I pass on the store credit this time.
Terri wrote: "Do all houses have lovely views, Bobby?"Terri, every house we looked at did not have a view but we're all within 3 blocks of the ocean. Very flat where we were.
Gretchen wrote: "I just filled a tote with books to sell at a local used book store. I still don't have enough shelf space for books. This weekend is the "friends of the library" book sale... its the first one I'll get to go to since moving to the neighborhood. Hope its good... on second thought, I hope its terrible!
Terri wrote: "Imagination Library sounds like a great program. Nice to encouragement kiddies to love books. :)"I have the strangest feeling that it's the programme Dolly Parton started. I know she's done something similar.

Pres Obama visited Utah this week and flew into Hill AFB. The landing pattern goes right over my home. Air Force 1 is a very imprssive air plane! It funny how a big airplane seems to be going so slowly on take off and landing - It has to be going at least 100 mph!
