That's great Terri. What a contrast to not so long ago! Really happy that's the way it is for you up there. It's nice to hear. :)

Amazon published a list of the "100 Books to Read in a Lifetime, from the Amazon Books Editors". In the same page you can also see how GR readers voted.
Personally I feel much more in accord with the GR list.
If someone is curious:

Saw that joke on a sign when I was visiting my sister back in November. It's a play on the joke "why did the chicken cross the road?"

Have to agree with you about the GR list read more on that list than the amazon one.
So Amazon is now using Goodreads as a tool for all their customers... Not sure how I feel about that.

Think it was going to happen, I am wondering if the other companies which we can link to book by book are going to stay or be forced out.
I did too, but really hoped they would forget. hehI don't know about your next question. I know Kobo links reviews directly from GR, whether that will cease or not - would have to ask someone who actually uses theirs.
GR could also explode with many more members, I don't know if the site is ready for that. hahah
Our weather is like a rollercoaster - up and down and up and down and round and round. This weekend we'll get up to 60F and then by Wed/Thurs our high will be below 32F. No wonder everyone I know is sick.

I couldn't see where the GR readers voted, but in the end, I only agreed with 6 books on Amazon's list. Then again, I am picky :-)
Took me a bit to find it too. It's in the text box above where there's an explanation about the list

I found the differences between the two lists more interesting than any of the books on the lists. It seems the Amazon list contained an awful lot of modern books while the Goodreads list contained more books which (in my opinion) would be considered classics that have stood the test of time.

Happy to hear that. Your cows and You suffered a lot the past couple of years. I wish a lot of green can be seen all year long from your window. Great to have a McLeod Daughter on board!

After the 10 inches we got last Sunday - I'm very grateful

You'll be pleased to know then, that they have all the grass they can eat and all the water they can drink. The ones that survived are happy campers at the moment. :)

thankyou for wishing this for us. :) I think it will come true. Things are looking really positive!
McLeod's Daughters have sooo much more drama in their lives than I do. lol. All those boyfriends and freakish accidents and bad guys. :D

How much snow do you have to get to have a day off work, happy?
We don't. I've worked at Hill AFB since 1986 and we have had exactly one "snow" day that I remember :) That happened in the winter of 93-94 ( an expectionally snowy yr, definately the snowiest since I've lived here ) It wasn't because it was snowing - we'd had about 36 inches (1 meter) in 3 or 4 days and everyone was expected to be at work during the storm. After the storm finally stopped they told all non essential personel to stay home, because they needed to plow the parking lots. Appearently they couldn't plow them during the storm, because they had to keep the runway open.

I guess GR readers are perfectly happy to read good classics, that maybe they have already at home, while Amazon is more interested to promote the sales of new books...:)

The Eastern Shore of Maryland doesn't get that much snow and when they do (over an inch) everyone frets. part of it is that our Roads crews just don't have the equipment to deal with the snow. And, people just don't know how to drive in the snow: they either drive like snails, creating problems, or they drive like they're on a raceway, creating different problems. I grew up in Canada and get really frustrated with the way in which people around here deal with snow.

It's nearly 50 below with windchill tonight in Minnesota. It's not suppose to get any warmer. Mr. Gretchen is going to work late tomorrow so Elizabeth can wait in the car until the bus arrives. Schools have been cancelled due to extreme cold on more than one occasion but so far I don't think it's going to happen tomorrow.
Your poor littlie would be disappointed if school were cancelled tomorrow wouldn't she? Especially on the heels of having to stay home sick recently and her wanting to go back to school. :)
She's been home on winter break since Christmas Eve. Mom and the twinkers want her back in school as much as she wants to be back in school.

I'm finally back after the whirlwind of the last two weeks. I loved the holidays, but very glad it's over. I need a vacation after my vacation! I hope everyone had a wonderful and safe holiday and new year. I failed my goal for the month of December. I thought I'd have loads of time to read. I'll be finishing up this month and getting to some of the group read books I've missed. I'm glad to see that February was added for catching up.

Yup - to be honest, I prefer it on the right side as it is now. That left hand stuff messed me up

Got that too.
I am continually getting booted from the site for security violations. I am pretty sure Mr. Gretchen doesn't allow security violations on his home network or computers if he can help it.On a not so related, random question for random thoughts: Is there a way to change your recommendations so you are only getting book in a certain language? I am getting a lot of recommendations lately in lots of various languages.

Have rebooted my system & its seems to have been cleared (for now) although mcafee has been flagging pages for a few weeks now at random on GR - its linking it (the certificate) to an Amazon.com one - saying that the higher level cant be traced.... ??

I noticed the same thing. I couldn't get Update to work for awhile; now it does. I guess it didn't work while GR was doing their fiddling around.

I'm currently boss-less but good try :P
My Life sends message every day saying that my security is compromised. I opened their message one time and saw that my name, address, telephone number, etc. were in their message. So everyday when they message me, my info is repeated for the world to see if I open the message. I think they want me to panic and give them access to my pass word and accounts. How do I get hid of these people?Goodreads and Firefox always have a problem. 'We are sorry but Firefox is not working. Do you want to wait, report or close?' Anyone having those problems?

So, looks to me like they're trying to get into your computer.
As for Firefox, they're a pain in the patooti. Like Gretchen, I use Chrome. Firefox is my back-up if I need a second browser open, or if certain sites aren't Chrome friendly.
If My Life is after me, don't let me spread the virus. Himself ran the virus scan and cleaned me up, but My Life is knocking on the door again. My mother has no PC and thinks the internet should be outlawed. At the Christmas dining event, Mother's offspring talked and talked about viruses and how to get rid of them. Mother popped up and said, "Don't waste your money on a shot of penicillin. It won't do a thing against a virus." Weather report. We are going into the single digits tomorrow. Today, however, the roses still cling to the vine (sweater weather) in the mid-south. I don't know anything about the rest of the country or the southern hemisphere, so someone should report. I hope to see one of the play-off football games played in a blizzard.
