Mark, are you in cahoots with Terri? She pulls tricks on me and I fall for it everytime. I really thought about the teapot, I am embarrassed(sp) to say.Tasha, where do you live? I am in the deep south, Mississippi, and we have had two electric blanket nights, but we will be back into daytime highs of 70°F by week's end. Watch out for Mark! Lol
So far we have had the perfect late fall early winterSnow in the mountains and rain in the valleys - it has been a couple of weeks since the last storm though
The ski resorts are happy - they had enough snow to open early.
Temps have been in the 50's (F) for highs and the mid 30's for lows

[°F] = [°C] × 9⁄5 + 32
[°C] = ([°F] − 32) × 5⁄9

Oh yes, we're very close to Switzerland and they are already skiing there.
My kids are preparing thiir skis and snowboards and are quite excited - I don't ski, so I'm less enthusiast. (It's expensive , dangerous, cold as hell...go figure! Brr!)

I agree totally :) I haven't skied in years. $60+ a day for lift tickets - I don't know how anyone can afford it.

THANK YOU, Happy. I was dreading trying to find the information to help me figure what Mark had done. It would take all day because invaribly I find other interesting tangents and, well you know how that goes.

I love skiing....always have and my wife and girls are skiers as well. I want to know where in the U.S. you can ski for $60 a day!!! At Lake Tahoe $90-$100 is the norm. We go on a ski trip now and stay a week and ski one day!!
I love getting weather reports! I like finding water temperatures of large bodies of water. I like to know how long summers are in different places. I like to know summer heat relative humidities. This may sound odd, but I ask, why is the weather the main topic of conversations?Nearly forgot, it was 32°F at 8 am and is now 52°F where I live.
I'll throw in the weather report from Vancouver, Canada....8 degrees (45) right now and predicted to stay the same all week, with lots of rain.

The resorts in Utah range from a low of $37 at Wolf Mountain ( mainly a locals resort, it is really too low on the mountain to have decent snow) to $102 at Deer Valley. Most are between $60 - $75 including Park City, Alta and Snowbird.
When I was a teenager we could get lift tickets for about $10/day and really really complained when they went to $15 :)

I know the plaintive "I'm English" is a cheat - although I know a few robust summer-lovers who make fun of me. - I make fun of them back in winter. I wear t-shirts through winter and think them total wimps.
I don't know what temp it is here.....hot....hot...hot..I know that much.It is 6:50 and I am in my bedroom with air con on 20 degrees and a fan on also (doing my fair share of assisting global warming).
With my air con and fan, I am giving mother nature and her hot summer the finger...:-)
Bryn wrote: "I make fun of them back in winter. I wear t-shirts through winter and think them total wimps. ..."That's like when I go to California in the winter. The locals are in gloves and scarves, all the northern tourists are in shorts and t-shirts. It's seriously funny. :)

I live in Florida and love the winters here. Right now it is 40-50 F at night and 60-70 during the day. Perfect weather I believe.
I love these emails! Dawn, I have only been in California in the early summer. A road trip from Mississippi to wine country. We drove through Yosemite(sp) where there was snow on the ground. Stopped at Barstow where the weather was chilly at night. Next stop Needles. Need I say more?Anne, I love Florida in the winter and in the summer. You can nearly go naked all year. But, have you ever been to Disney World in July? That is some serious heat. Needles, CA, may read higher on the thermometer, but Florida is hotter.
Tasha, once went to a June wedding in Erie, and it snowed.
Daniel, we get snow when the Canadian frigid air mass and the jet stream get in cahoots. Speaking of cahoots, I ask again, are Terri and Mark in cahoots? SIC. That tied up nicely, didn't it? Thank you all for the weather reports!
Linda wrote: "Speaking of cahoots, I ask again, are Terri and Mark in cahoots? ..."I have no idea what you mean. No cahoots, my dear. :D

After I made the huge mistake of going to a theme park in Tampa when it wal just under 100 degrees.
I guess I should have been more specific, I travel to LA in the winter. Where it is nice and warm and it's prefect for riding roller coasters.Anywhere around San Fran is bloody cold, nice and sunny during the day but sooooo cold as soon as it gets dark. :)
Uh, dare I say its in the 70's and 80's every day this time of year?? But the pool is now closed for the winter.
Dawn, I was just surprised that in San Fran I froze at night but each morning was bright and energetic. At Lake Berryessa(sp), the water was frigid but people water skiied without wet suits. I eas traveling with Tom (husband) and two sons. Jonathan was 16 mos. and Rob was ten. I wanted to see LA, but Tom had been several times before and left it off the itenerary. Is the Pacific warm in summer anywhere along the California coast? The water is unbelievably blue. Just gorgeous!
Bobby, your weather sounds delightful too! We have to close our pool in September. Then we have some really hot daytime weather in September and October. Really the only months that are consistently cold, day and night, are January and February.Terri, I would give you my pool if it were possible. About the 'cahoots' thing. Remember you pulled my leg about Ireney. Then Mark wanted sell me a chocolat teapot gone soft. I actually about buying it before I caught on. Only you two have have tricked me (to my knowledge-- maybe Lee did once or twice) so I tried to be funny and asked if he was cahoots with you.

I've been to Disney but we went in October. Perfect weather and perfect time to avoid crowds on the rides. My mom is in Florida right now, enjoying some warmer weather.
@Dawn, yep, you should bring some warmer clothes...at least I think you should. You may be braver than I am about the cold. I'm not sure about any snow predictions though although this December snow is a bit early for us, at least over the past few years....well, except for that freak Halloween snow we got last year... And apparently that freak snow Linda mentioned. ;)
Linda, I don't know how the Pacific is down the California coast. I've never gone down in the summer, it's too hot for me and there are too many tourists. I know on the BC coast there is some lagoons and shallower areas that warm up nicely in the summer but typically the windsurfers still wear wet suits and no one waterski's in the winter up here. :)
Terri wrote: "Linda wrote: "Speaking of cahoots, I ask again, are Terri and Mark in cahoots? ..."I have no idea what you mean. No cahoots, my dear. :D"
Sorry Linda no I am not in cahoots I just have a northern English sense of humour which to others can be weird .

I had the message some time ago. I believe that GR gods send it to test our faith...you have to try, and try again, young padawan. ;)
The covers look good with our banner don't they. :-) I will find some videos to put on the main page later today or tonight. So when all you little Americans awake from your fitful slumbers on the 1st, there will be videos to watch. :-)
I will be up very early tomorrow morning for an event I am helping out with, so will check them out. Depending on my morning though I may have to watch them later that night.
Linda wrote: "Is the Pacific warm in summer anywhere along the California coast?"Hi Linda, parts of the California coast get warm enough to swim and play around without a wetsuit. Usually by late July and through September it's pretty warm (a relative term, of course, meaning up to 75 degrees), although if you're going to be in for an extended period, I'd recommend a wetsuit or at least one of those neoprene rash guard tops with a little thickness, just to keep the chill off. The Pacific on the California coast just doesn't get warm like lakes. However, just a little further south in Mexico, especially south of Baja California, the water warms up to that nice pleasant 80+ range. For water temp updates, try searching Surfer websites. Generally, the water is always a little chilly all the way up and down the California coast.
If you wanted to do some fun water-adventure activities in Southern California, I'd recommend Catalina Island -- great for a day trip or a weekend. They have snorkeling trips (did that one a few years ago and had a lot of fun), a submarine ride and a really awesome dive park and a great dive boat as well if you're into that sort of thing. I did my Scuba certification there through a fantastic outfit on the PCH called Malibu Divers. There's another shop right on the Island called ScubaLuv and they're really cool too.
If you're up in NorCal for a visit, the Sacramento Delta river system is also really fun. It's 1100 miles of waterways and the water temps are typically above 80 from July-October, which is refreshing in August/September 100+ air temperatures. Great for waterskiing, fishing, boating and there are a lot of places to go wine tasting as well for the oenophiles in the family and the wineries in the Lodi region are just as good, IMO, and more affordable than Napa. Check the Rio Vista, Isleton, which is right in the middle of it all and only about an hour and twenty minutes from SF.
Hope that info is helpful. Cheers!
David, yes this was helpful! I am going to put it in my travel file. You were so kind to give me this information. Sounds like you really appreciate the fun things and absolutely beautiful vistas that California has to offer. I have been to Napa Valley to taste the wine. We stayed with family for two weeks in St. Helena. (Husband was born in Orinda(sp)). We had some encounters with the wildlile. First, a hyena made noise in middle of the night and scared me. Next, every day we enjoyed the cocktail hour on the patio. Deer would come into the yard and stay. Here, if deer spot or smell a human they hightail it away. They don't want to be a rack on a den wall. In California the little and big creatures interacted with us. Amazing place is California.

Linda wrote: " In California the little and big creatures interacted with us. Amazing place is California."I have regularly seen deer walking around the neighborhood up in the hills by the Hollywood sign. One night I looked out my kitchen window and saw a decent sized one, it's head over six feet high with a huge rack (and not a Hollywood rack, which can be found aplenty on the human wildlife down on the Boulevard! lol ;)) walking along the path in the yard. Lots of racoons, squirrels, lizards and coyotes -- and long-eared rabbits on a few of the golf courses up in NorCal, not scared of people or zinging golf balls at all. Not a lot of problems except you'll want to avoid the coyotes and ask about mountain lion sightings if you're planning on doing any hiking, even in the parks near or in the cities. Also, watch out for spiders. I was monkeying around with some old boards on a wooden deck and got tagged by a Black Widow, which was no fun. A buddy of mine got bit by one that had found its way into a pair of shorts he had sitting out in his house and the bite triggered a heart attack. California's got a lot of nature, which can be breathtaking, but if you're going off the beaten path, check local websites and whatnot for tips. Safety first. :) Oh yeah, on one of the Catalina dives we ended up swimming with about a dozen 5-7 foot sharks. They were Tope Sharks, so pretty much harmless, but amazing to have them swimming less than a foot away from your mask. On the other hand, surfers have been tagged by Great Whites along the coast from time to time so find out about shark sightings as well. Don't mean to scare you, just play safe and be alert, like you would anywhere else in nature.
