I was jumping around my TV/reading room and dancing and helping Carrie Underwood sing WAITIN ALL DAY FOR SUNDAY NIGHT (football). I got thirty minutes into Dallas/New Orleans game and the TV lost its signal. That's the last time I will help Carrie Underwood sing anything, even if she begs. Between the two of us we must have emanated too much sizzle and burned out the cable.lol

Unbelievable..... but thanks for the info. I don't even remember those scenes...must not have been that important. Keep me posted as to what happens and I'll relay that info to Mr. Stein.
The mountains are supposed to get their first snow this morning (above 8500ft)and their sides are starting to turn orange and yellow (scrub oak and Quaking Aspens) - I guess winter is on its way. I hope we are going into a wet cycle, I'm tired of the drought:) - Aug was the wettest on record and Sept has not been far behind! The last couple of days we have gotten more than an inch and a half of water (3.5cm) and more to come. There was a great lightening storm on the way into work tonight.Heck of a way to run a desert :)
And he we are, literally just saying, summer is on the way, while I water the garden. I've just brought the bucket in to start saving water from the shower, as i suspect it's going to be a hot one. My garden is new and I'm trying to nurture it. This won't be the last time you here this from me, But: I HATE HOT!!!
In July I can't wait for January and in January I'm anxious for July! I guess some people are never happy (in spite the name:))
Hi, I'm looking for a historical fiction book that is set in Germany. Any suggestions? Also I was wondering if any of you knew a historical fiction about the Melancholy Dorothy Talbye who was the third woman hung in the U.S. for murder. I heard Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote something about it but I'm not sure. She is my 10th great grandmother and I thought about writing a historical fiction on her and I am curious if it has been done; if so I would love to read it!
Quick, quick visit. My hubby and I have sworn off the internet and the mobiles while he's on holidays so I am letting down my end of the bargain by jumping on Gr to say g'day. :DG'day. Don't you all bloody go and forget me! I'll be back in the land of GR next week.
Ciao for now mi amigos,
Terri

Hi Vanessa,
Can I recommend that you start a new thread in the 'Loooking for a Book About...' thread? https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...
I bet you'll get bucket loads of recommendations if you give your request its own thread. :)
My heart is broken. This is such terrible news. For all those who know Derek, he has said goodbye to us all.

I will always love you, my dear friend.
If anybody needs to talk, my door is aways open. Please contact me if you need me.
Losing a member of our community here, and for many of us a good friend, is not going to be easy.
Hey Terri. Hope your time with hubby is wonderful, and that your batteries will be fully recharged when you return. I am busy with the Hadrian Wall course, which when you start , you will enjoy, as it is right up your Roman Army love. All is fine here in the States. Busy reading a series by Monday Mourning Kathy Reichs, a forensic archeologist. Also just began Marco will enjoy seeing you on line. Sorry about the news re Derek. Hope he can return.

Thats great that you are enjoying the Hadrian course. I am looking forward to starting it next week. :)
I have to confess though, I have no love for Roman Army. lol. I dislike the Romans immensely. I do like Roman archaeology though.
RE: Derek's goodbye to us allI know very little about his illness, only that it is terminal brain cancer and the outlook is not good.
Will share any updates if I hear anything.I was just saying to Darcy in a private message, I wish one of us lived close to him and could take him some flowers or simply go and see him on all our behalf.
This is the downside to forming friendships in an International environment. Not that I would have it any other way, but it would be nice to be able to give support in person when something like this happens.

God, Terri. Please keep us posted.
I will, Simona. And if anybody else has spoken to Derek and has an update, please share. I am going nuts not knowing about his progress, his treatment etc..

I have posted to Derek's e-mail & will let you all know if I have any news.
I spoke to Derek two days ago. He was in reasonable spirits. I'm not sure what has happened but have sent a pm to Louisa, to see if she can shed any light. Andy is also trying to make contact. This is a terrible setback, and I am devastated to find these messages so late last night. I will post if I hear from Louisa.
Please keep us updated on Derek. I just went to his profile and I found the top quote on his favorites to be hauntingly appropriate....“Don't walk behind me; I may not lead. Don't walk in front of me; I may not follow. Just walk beside me and be my friend.”
― Albert Camus
Please pass along our love!

What a poignant quote. :*(
Thanks for sharing that one, Kimber.

I imagine a lot of us have now reached out to that email in the hopes of hearing something. *crosses fingers*

I found it on Derek's profile. Credit is all to him.

Apparently I'm late on hearing the news. Jesus! The worst things always happen to the best people :(
If anybody wants to send Derek their well wishes and thoughts, you may want to leave a message on his profile as many have aready done (scroll to the bottom of his profilewhere profile comments are made). That is a way to let him know you are thinking of him and if he gets a chance during his treatment to drop into GR he will see the united show of support.

Sorry, I should have thought of that. Thanks for pointing that out Edward. For all those not on Derek's friends list (which of course doesn't mean you aren't friends, I am friends with lots of people who aren't on my friends list because we just never got around to making it official..:)..). If you would like to say something to Derek, please feel free to post it here. I am sure if he comes on GR, he will check in here as well.
P.S on the friends list thing. Happy to accept friend requests (unless you are an author looking to spam me one day) if anybody in the group has been too shy to send me one. Thought I would say that out loud (so to speak) since the topic arose.
He left us his email address in the message he left on his profile. I sent a short note just letting him know that we're thinking of him and wishing him the best. Same here on the friend thing. I love connecting with all of you :)
just to let everyone know Molly Derek's sister has made a post on Derek's profile.https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/1...

Thank you Mark.
I had a thought...For anybody who would like to post a few words to Derek on his profile, but cannot because you are not on his friends list. If you would like to post a message here I will copy and paste that message to his profile, with your name and a link to your user profile.
Edward,
I'll copy your message over. To make sure he gets it and it doesn't get lost here in this thread.

Thank you Terri.
Just read Molly's message and left a note for Derek and his family... how cool/sweet that even during those crazy times, he leaves his sister a note regarding all of us?? Wow. Then I read everyone else's comments... I'm literally almost thru a box of Kleenex :'(
Thanks for that Mark. I feel great relief that we have that tangible link still with Derek. Hope all is well with everyone. :/
Thank you Edward and Terri for news about Derek. He is my friend and is always THERE for me and for all of us, I imagine. In his profile he says he is a little bit boring. I disagree! My friend Derek does not have a boring bone in his body! His wit is quick, his mannner charming, and I love him. No worries.
Derek was updating his profile this morning and so nice to read the sentence... "Hi everyone, this is Derek..."

There you go Bobby. Everyone already answered for me. The good news is that this is a small group of parents in the district. Another group of parents is fighting the challenges. We'll see how it goes.
