Dawn, I thinks that's part of our "rates". That is all I have ever paid when I've had a mortgage, just council rate, and water and sewerage rates. There may be something that applies to the uber rich, but not the average person. Don't worry though we are taxed in plenty of other ways, haha. Car registration, stamp duty on new car and new home purchases, goods and services, income tax, Medicare, licence fees, even if you want to fish you have to get a licence.

I saw a gameplay video from Comic Con about AC Unity. They were playing the multiplayer part, which I will not play. So I haven't heard if its to have a substantial single-player. Love the other Assassin's Creed games though. Even AC III.

As far as I've read online so far, only parts of the single player campaign can be played in a multiple player mode. That would mean the single player mode is still the most important. But I guess we won't know until it comes out.

I don't know how people read when they are sick. I know plenty actually use sick time to read heaps, but I can't do it. I can't stand the thought of concentrating on a story, let alone focusing on all the little words.

That's why I binge on romances then. Feel good reading that doesn't require much cognitive skills.

(for the record, in case anybody has ever wondered...seeing as I run for the hills when R shows up in books...no, I don't really do 'grand gesture' romance in real life either. not in any great quantity. I do small romance, but I am too cynical and jaded for elaborate romance.) :)

Romances don't have to be all grand gestures and melodrama. Granted, there is a decent amount of that but there are some awesome ones out there (not that I want to convert you or anything, just trying to clear up stereotypes and misconceptions). I've recently been reading romances by Josh Lanyon, lots of mystery and a smidge of romance, very understated and mostly non-melodramatic.

Ah..no I wasn't saying the books you read are grand gestures of romance. I was referring to myself. I was just saying that I personally don't do romance much, and if I do it can't be grand gesture romance, it has to be light romance.
In case anybody had wondered whether my personal life reflects my taste in books, I was confirming that it does.

lol. mate, I didn't even know there were grand gestures in romance books. I have no idea what is in them. Not anymore.

I used to read a few historical romances a few decades ago when I was young (young-er. I should say.;)..) and there weren't too many in those.
Unless you count being swept up onto a knight's horse as you flee...I suppose that is fairly grand.
My experience with romance books begins and ends there, back in the early 90's.

I confess to reading romances. I do think for the most part it's because I can turn my brain off when I do. I have to deal with humans all day long, and I really don't like it, I'd much prefer, books, dogs, coffee and chocolate. So in those books I can just fall down the hole with Alice and forget about everything for a while. I don't want to turn off when I'm reading Uhtred, that would just be crazy!!! Lol.

I just read a news article where a guy in the US got fired from an English language school for having a lecture on homophones. O.o

...because it sounds like homophobes and they didn't want to be associated with anything gay.

I think those people have no business running a language school. Its the weirdest story I've read in a while that highlights human stupidity (or the crappiness of the US education system).

I saw that yesterday. Insanity. Someone in charge at the school stated that the guy was not fired for that particular post but then referred the reporter to a post the teacher had made on his personal blog. Either way the firing is suspicious.
