Although, I think worse was the drunken night where we had chocolate ice cream that fell to the ground, and my drunken friend decided she wanted the ice cream more than she feared the ground and licked it up. Ah, university good times.
The ramen, cheez-whiz with hot dogs and Tabasco sauce was typical barracks fare on a Sunday (we even used to eat it in the field using cheese spread and dehydrated pork patties from our rations).....can't beat it, I still mix up a batch every now and then. Our other Sunday "breakfast of champions" was cold half eaten pizza from the night before washed down with whatever warm beer was left in the cans (often complete with the odd cigarette butt).

Alan wrote: "Terri, yes it is good and with the tomato sauce too, better than Vegemite which everyone seemed to eat when I was in Queensland many years ago, haha."Vegemite is the best. :D On fresh white bread, preferably with lots of butter, but butter isn't even necessary.

OMG. Where have you been all my life Marie Callender!!??
We were doing a grocery shop on the weekend and in the freezer section they had these massive 1.3kg pies on special. They only had three types, Lemon Meringue (my favourite pie) which were sold out:(, the Razzleberry Pie and a Apple Pie with Lace Crust.
We got both the berry one and the apple one. Cooked the berry one two nights ago and had it with heaps of custard. Pies were so big we got two nights out of it, plus hubby took a slice to work for lunch and I had a small slice after lunch yesterday.
I think I am in love. I admit, a bit too sweet for my tastes, but if you add an ocean of custard to it, the sugar is cut a little bit.
Being Winter here right now, these pies were perfect. I am going to cook the Apple one tonight.
God Bless America! :]

Post the pics when it's in bloom, please. :)
I shall. Being a bare root rose, it won't be spectacular for a couple years. I still should get some flowering this coming summer though. :)For anybody wanting to know what this rose looks like, it looks like this (picture obviously not my own. My Fourth of July is only a few sticks in the ground right now).

Oh, that was just a silly pun. I just meant I use two slices. I try to have two different flavors on hand to mix them., e.g., cheddar and pepperjack.

Mmmmmm pie. Now that's something I can talk about :)
I guess I just can't do the Kraft singles. I did love the bacon flavored cheese whiz and my soon to be in-laws in Canada request delivery of various flavors of spray cheese whenever I visit from The States. Marie Callender's pies (both sweet and savory) are Awesome!
All of this talking about food is making me excited for the Minnesota State Fair next month. I need to get try the bacon wrapped turkey leg in addition to my bucket of Sweet Martha's Chocolate Chip Cookies. Oh my.http://www.mnstatefair.org/fun/new_food/
That link is just the new foods. There is all kinds of other deep fried gluttony on a stick too.
Terri wrote: "I love pies. Sweet or savoury. Love to make them, love to eat them :)"I think we're on the same wavelength today. First the 'Aesthetically OCD' thing from the arranging books thread and now sweet and savory pies (I hadn't seen your comment when I wrote mine) *High-Fives Terri again*

The frozen ones are okay, but they are much better freshly made - we have a Marie Callenders resturant nearby. My favorite is the Double Cream Lemon and Mrs. Happy loves the Rubarb

Oh Gooood. *wipes drool* you are so lucky. But then again, if I had one of those restaurants near me I'd probably end up having a heart attack by 45. I have no self control with pies.
When I was 17, I was a waitress at a Dennys. I used to devour their pies. Especially the Blueberry and the Cherry Pie. Hmm...Cherry Pie with lots of whipped cream. *falls from chair to the floor*
I can't find the Denny's Pies online. They were Mother Butler I think.
Every day before I started work I used to have a a Denny's breakfast. Sausages, eggs, bacon, pancakes and maple syrup.
It is something I have craved for the last two decades. As I haven't been near a Denny's since I worked there. I think there is only one in my State and it is a long way away and it may even be closed now.
When I worked in one, it was in New Zealand when i was there on a work visa.
Ah fond memories of Denny's...the favored hangout after a night of trouble! I was never much of a drinker but I tagged along because I was always hungry :)
me too. I may have worked there, but when we went out on weekends clubbing, we always ended up at Dennys afterwards for a feed. It was the best for drunken cravings. In fact, when I had the uniform on, doing a night shift and I was on the other side of the bench, most of my customers were drunk. lol
Denny's was the post Rocky Horror Picture Show hangout. Good memories, and good food after a midnight movie/show. Many cast members would show up in costume and the local Denny's we always met at were used to it they didn't bat an eyelash.
oh my god Alicja! That would be soooo fun! I love the movie Rocky Horror Picture Show but never seen it in the theater :(~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I won my first Goodreads book giveaway!! Some biography of AC/DC. Rock on!

Oh, that's scary! From what I read in the news, it sounds like it may not be the end of violence so stay safe and hopefully this madness will stop soon.

I was just reading about the missile attacks only half an hour ago (as I read the morning paper). I did wonder how you and your family were doing, Marina.
Keep your head down! :)
Thinking of you all, mate. Keeping fingers crossed that the attack finishes soon.
Yeah, everything seems so much more frightening at night. Daylight makes us so much braver and more capable of tackling the bad stuff. :)

Dont get me wrong, I dont yearn for that era/style of football but it was about right late 80's/early 90's in terms of it still being a contact sport.
lol, NO not quite a Suarez but below is why - if you google him you'll find a fair few tackles where he jus ko's playersKnown for his tackling, he was nicknamed "Bites Yer Legs" Hunter. The nickname originated from a banner held up by Leeds United fans at the 1972 F.A. Cup final against Arsenal; the banner simply read "Norman bites yer legs". Brian Clough effectively popularised the nickname by referring to it during the pre-match discussion in the TV studio.
Ahh, gotcha. :) I was indeed picturing a pommy Suarez. only, a leg biter, not a face, ear, neck biter.
It's summer. I've just finished a big project and I'm zapped out.I want to play so I'm back here. 2 minutes reading after months away working, and I already get a bomb in Tel Aviv and crucial footballing info.Terri, you'll be pleased to know that I've done 6 days on the beekeeping course, spread out since May, and my beehive is doing fine. We called it 'Endeavour' and the name is painted on the front.
Marina wrote: "Cheers, Terri! I hope so too. Though now, in the morning light, it all doesn't seem so scary anymore :)"
But it was. And to hear this from someone with whom you usually chat about books is also scary, it seems more real than hearing about it on the news. Good luck Marina.
Marina wrote: "Yeah.... I'll be your eyes on the ground in this world conflict. Today was relatively quiet.
