Woah...those marionettes are profoundly disturbing. I did burst out laughing at the "oil rig" explosion.

Why thank ya darlin. I am sure I will come up with something. I tell ya, you think getting your first house is a great thing until it happens. I think once we get settled in we will be back to normal. We just need some alone time I think. I just miss my man.

We met at the park and we went for a walk. Maybe we should go for a walk again.
We are incredibly close but during this move we haven't had time to just hang out because of this crazy move. Its been stressful for us because it has been non stop moving, etc. for 3 weeks. I just wanted to do something sweet for him to help us chill and get back to us, now that we are done moving.

message 9066: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (drokka) | 2675 comments I'm doing such menial work today that I could listen to an e-book while typing away. However, my card expired. This made me think about why precisely my card expired. So for librarians out there who do work in places where library cards expire I have a suggestion:
On the annual 'expiry' date, the card should not actually expire if:
a) the customer has used the library services in the past (select a length of time, but let us use 60 days for now), and
b) there are no fines attached to said card number

I think that would make for happier book borrowers who aren't inclined to actually enter the library for their audio/e-books.

Just a thought.... :)

I may not be dating a man but I'm dating a gamer (and am a bit of a gamer myself) so we made up this game we call "strip gaming". Pick any game where you go one on one in quick fighting rounds (for example Tekken, Mortal Combat, or even Mario Kart). It helps if you can sometimes win against him (otherwise it could get one sided). The amount of clothes you start off with should depend on how long you want to prolong the torture. The rules are simple. Every lost "battle"/round the loser takes off a piece of clothing. The first one naked does whatever the "war" winner orders. :P

Library cards that expire seems like such a foreign concept. Here library cards don't expire. You get locked out if you rack up too many fines and you have to pay to get a replacement card.

See, that seems more efficient. In defence of my library system, they did just do 6 months of interviews with library users, group discussions, surveys etc, on how to make improvements. I haven't read the report yet, so this may be something that will change; doesn't help me today though ;)

That happens to me, and then I have to go pay my fines so I can order more books!

Gretchen (eab2012) I have a feeling a lot of you guys will do better on this quiz than I did. I did better than I thought I would. I certainly did better than I would have prior to joining this group. However, I have to confess, I would not be admitted to Rome.

Alicja (darkwingduckie7) | 657 comments I think I would have gotten a D if it was a school quiz...

You scored 12 out of 20.
Your score: 60 %

Means I gotta read more about ancient Rome. I'm sure I would have rocked an ancient Greece quiz though.

There is an ancient Egypt one too: http://www.historyextra.com/quiz/citi...

I surprised myself with Egypt, figured I'd fail miserably but I just barely failed instead. :P

You scored 11 out of 20.
Your score: 55 %

message 9077: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) About 6 of my answers were right by a complete fluke, especially 'What happened to Emperor Valerian?', I just picked that answer because it was crazy!

But I got 100%, thanks to Steven Saylor and Robert Harris! :)

message 9078: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (drokka) | 2675 comments I certainly wouldn't get citizenship with my paltry 8/20 haha

message 9079: by Gretchen (new)

Gretchen (eab2012) It must be a sign that I truly am part Viking. I failed the Egyptian and Roman quizzes.

I don't know what the cut-off is but I think I barely squeaked in with only 15 right out of 20. I'm ashamed with all that Roman stuff I read. :( Nothing was tricky.

Hey, you can always appeal to the emperor--or is the empress the power behind the throne? :)

message 9085: by Dawn (new)

I can give you a list of really good Egyptian fiction if you want. :)

message 9089: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) Yeah? I'd like to find one worthy of my recommended list. I've decided I have a year to read enough Ancient books to attempt a list not so full of mythology (it seems a good goal), to which end I've ordered a ridiculous amount of library books, and if you wanna lay on some ideas...I'll take them. Lets move to the Egyptian thread though, so I don't lose the list in this gong show.... https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
