Linda wrote: "Good story, but I am MIA about the baby. Ladies and gents, how did you get paired with spouses whose interests you do not share? I thought my husband and I were the only opposites that attracted!..."I never truly believe in exact sameness or opposites. We many share a lot of opposite (or would that be complimentary?) characteristics with our significant others but I bet if we look below the superficial level we'll find more in common that we thought. I think that sharing that which is in the core of the relationship is what makes it actually work.
Simona, thank you for 'them kind words, ma'am.' I am fortunate in so many ways! Non-teck son and I are not good drivers, our work stations are a mess, and we break or lose everything. Tech son and husband know how things work--like toilets. They know why a flush does not require electricity! Hydro-electricity, they know how that works. (I have toured the TVA hydro-electric plant and left more confused than ever.)They can fix car engines and flat tires. They know how and why the lunar modules and those other two parts worked in the Apollo moon missions, (separating and docking in splace? What does it mean?) They are good drivers and don't break things. They watch movies where the actors look like rubber dolls. They know why squirrels fry when they put their back legs on one electric wire and their heads on the second wire. They see nothing special in Garth Brooks, Brett Favre, Drew Brees and Dale Junior. Enough! I am one lucky lady to have diversity as well as common ground with my men! You nailed it, Alicja! Where it really matters, partners are alike. That is true in friendships as well. Speaking of friendship, husband is my best friend. I don't speak badly of him to other people, and I don't allow others to speak badly of him in my presence. I was trying to make funny of my comment about opposites attracting and forgot to add the lol, but your words were so wise I was inspired to write what I have learned about love over the years. Thank you for reminding me! No worries!
COS: What is the expected life of personal computers, tablets, e-readers, etc.? Do they finally get used up or tired and quit?
Tim wrote: "Does anyone know who Hugh Fernley-Wittingstall is? I remember he did a cookery show once where he made a pate from a woman's placenta and they had a party after the birth for her friends to eat it...."This was so not necessary to know!!!

Linda wrote: " OS: What is the expected life of personal computers, tablets, e-readers, etc.? Do they finally get used up or tired and quit? ..."In my opinion, about three years. Then they start to get slow and crash, until the big one when they don't start no more. :-)
My time is nearly up on all e-reading devices! Time to go back to paper, if the paper lovers will have me!
Linda wrote: "My time is nearly up on all e-reading devices! Time to go back to paper, if the paper lovers will have me!"By all means!! Welcome home!
The weight of the cover, the sound of the pages turning, the slight smell of dust -- Welcome back, Linda.
Linda wrote: "My time is nearly up on all e-reading devices! Time to go back to paper, if the paper lovers will have me!"I dont know..... she did forsake us :)
Linda wrote: "My time is nearly up on all e-reading devices! Time to go back to paper, if the paper lovers will have me!"I don't know about them, but we BOOK lovers surely will!
Nobody has a random thought today? Eeeek. The U.S. and Canada face each other in men's hockey on Friday. I'm going to have such anxiety...
I've had plenty of randoms Allie, a lot of them directed at Tim, but I'll keep them to myself, lol. But here's a few: I hate cleaning ovens; I wish all my belongings would pack themselves into boxes; where are the bloody servants?? Oh and omg when I move I will get all of my "real" books back. Does that mean I will be able to touch Uhtred? I hope so!!
Why do figure skaters cry so much? Why do bobsledders, who drive the worst, end up with the best times? Where is Lisa moving to? Why is curling an Olympic sport(it's just shuffleboard on ice, right?)? Is there really such thing as heaven & hell? Why do people want to read Heresy? Is there life after death? But most important of all...where's the beef?
Derek, Well I'm not sure if I want to read Heresy now?!? To quote an ex IOC president, we're moving to Syd-er-knee, lol. Unfortunately leaving Victoria, which I lurv so much. But onwards and upwards. Last day of work yesterday, just packing and cleaning, and leave on Monday. Now comes the sure stress of finding new work and interviews. I don't like that part. I'm hoping for books, coffee and no talking, :))))).

Derek wrote: "Why is curling an Olympic sport(it's just shuffleboard on ice, right..."I think they should have more sports like these in the Olympics. I mean, drunk people shuffling along the ice with sticks and big rocks...oh wait, that might just be at my local arena.
The bonspiels afterward though...that's some liquored up stuff.
Derek wrote: "Why do figure skaters cry so much? Why do bobsledders, who drive the worst, end up with the best times? Where is Lisa moving to? Why is curling an Olympic sport(it's just shuffleboard on ice, right..."ohhh Ohhhh I can help with one of them please Sir??!!
So as to give the Brits a medal chance at the winter olympics of course :)
AND how about them Flying Finns! think a few Reds might be on their way to the Gulag's this morn' ;)
Darcy wrote: "And if all keeps as is currently going, the Pussy Riot will be joining them. :("I think Pussy Riot should play at the closing ceremonies!! Now THAT, I would watch!
Curling is harder than it looks - When the Olympics were in SLC we went to an open house up at the site they had the curling and they let us try it. We also had tickets to some of the curling.

I hope you & Chris have a successful move, Lisa. Best of luck to you both!

Matthew wrote: "Anyone watching this Women's Canada/USA Hockey game? What a game!"Yep another great hockey game. Canada coming back from 2 nil down and the rest as it is said is history. a few contentious calls but still a good game and penalties avoided. The best team won!
Marina wrote: "At least there's more natural snow in Siberia than there is in Sochi."Yeah who'd have thought? Winter olympics in Russia, a no-brainer when it comes to snow n ice n wintry things & it's like 24C on the beach :)
Giving the games to Russia was a no-brainer full stop. The Russian language has not word for "efficiency" They had to adapt the English word. Any culture that doesn't understand efficiency is not one you actually want trying to co-ordinate and run anything.
A strange day today, my younger sister has tracked down our long lost older sister on facebook.bit of a shock.

Great news Mark.
Sorry I have been quiet these last two days folks. Thought I better drop in to say that while I will be active in the coming days, I won't be my usual super active self.As many of you know, we are in severe drought here right now. Things are very tough. Hoping not to lose the farm, but it is a very real possibility that has hit home to us these last couple days.
We are trying to get through. trying to source hay to feed cattle. trying to get meetings to see if there is any land around we can agist so we can save our cattle. Nothing so far.
Not reading. Not doing much, but trying to save it all. I'll get on GR as much as I can, but that may be only a couple posts a day.
Please keep enjoying each others company and talking books and all things nice while I am quieter. I will try and catch up on all the old posts when things are less frantic. :)
kind regards to all,
Terri

COS: News flash about my ASUS. I gave it Shaken ASUS Syndrome which is similar to Shaken Baby Syndrome. When I dropped it, the screen slid halfway giving me half a screen of abnormal content. It will cost half its original cost to fix it. Half the cost for half a screen. Makes sense, I guess. Computer son and husband have decided to fix it themselves rather than pay a good deal of money to ASUS. Buy a screen on e-bay, pop the old screen off and put the new screen on--simple, right? Son is a techie, husband has performed this delicate procedure before, (non-tech son got mad at his lap top and threw it down and husband changed out screens and cured it) so with luck, I will soon be reading and reviewing books again.
