Gonna rub my nose in it are ya? Jimmy Graham is, without a doubt, the best TE in the NFL, but on a day when Drew Brees only had 34 yards passing at halftime, it's not gonna show. Seattle's defense and the weather...too much to overcome. Poor Saints.;)

No offense to the English meant...but what's with your Captain? He was so complacent. Not communicating much with the team, standing around picking his nose a lot. His batting was halfhearted.
Hardly what I expect from a Captain of an English Ashes team.
It was like he was just turning up to get paid. team was hardly going to lift when the captain was just standing around quietly and nt firing everyone up. A Captain's job is not only to strategise, but to also lift the team spirit.

I think Mitchell Johnson is a d#ck. He played good cricket though which was good. I think he got Man of the Series. He probably deserved it.

None taken, he's like a little boy lost when the chips are really down & then his batting comes uunder the microscope & he's kinda crumbled. Must be one of those follow-me over the top lads style of Captains, which is great when yer doing the bizz, bit different when yer average & have to first motivate yerself before looking others in the eye & as he's still young he has to go throu that learning curve & experience how to handle the situation. I think he'll be under the scope from coach during the ODI series & a decision made in the summer on his future.

Now it's a comprehensive 6Wkt loss in the ODI too :(

Still at least the SEAHAWKS WON!

message 6006: by Portia (new)

Portia How much *did* it rain during that game?

message 6007: by [deleted user] (new)

It was very windy and rainy for sure, Portia. No excuses though. Seattle is the better team. I like their chances of winning it all....and then listening to Andy gloat nonstop.;)

message 6008: by Portia (new)

Portia Did you watch The Colts and New England? NE made the Colts look like a sparring team. I felt sorry for them.

Andy | 1511 comments Wish i had yer confidence Derek, still think that the Panthers & them 49ers has a ground game to challenge the Hawks to keep them honest on D & a D that can nullify "The Beast" & force the Hawks to pass which is always a ? on some days. Still Championship game it is & in Seattle so no excuses really...... crosses everything :)

Been a LONG time supporting them Hawks since the days of Largent/Krieg/Warner & a D-Line of Green/Nash/Bryant

Linda (ladylawyer8650) | 1702 comments The Saints lost and I am in a blue mood. Not so blue that I'm not watching today's games. Congrats to all the Hawks' and Pats' fans.

I remember those Dave Krieg, Steve Largent teams. Largent played high school ball just down the road from where I grew up. He's an Oklahoma City boy & one of the toughest WR's ever. Curt Warner was one of my favorite RB's to watch in those days.

I'm curious. Do they televise NFL games across the pond? Or do you have to get some kind of special satellite package to get them?

I have a no.28 Curt Warner shirt somewhere, my first nfl hero so to speak before I switched to defence & then it was fredd Young & Kenny Easely et al.

Back in the day we used to crowd round a radio & listen to AFN with the signal going in n out all night lol bit more sophisticated these days what with Satellite (SKY) showing 3 games a week & other (Free) channels have the Sunday & Monday night games, I also have NFL Gamepass so i can get my weekly Hawks fix too whilst watching the games on tv - Yes I do like my nfl.

message 6013: by Linda (new)

Linda (ladylawyer8650) | 1702 comments Andy, it's good that you are a fan. My husband and son still living at home have no interest in 'bootball.' I liked Curt Warner. He was good at QB, but Favre will forever be my hero. What cowboys they were! Do you all just get down in the dumps for days after your team loses? Or is that just a female thing? Lol

The playoffs: Does the game between the Chargers and the Broncos remind you of the Hawks/Saints game played yesterday? None of my picks, except the 49ers, have won in the playoffs. For Andy, I am now a Seahawk fan. Their uniforms are wicked! The team reminds me of Genghis Khan's warriors swarming in on any populace that happened to be in their path.

I got one, but as she's only just joined, I think she's looking for people who read similar material. That's the only one I've had recently.

I've noticed and declined some of these requests lately. Aren't in A&M. Don't seem to be into the same books and when I go check them out I see they have friended some people in my friends list.
I decline these 'friend seekers'.

It's not just you, Lisa. I've had a couple of completely random friend requests lately. I know exactly who you're talking about. I won't turn down a friend request, but if I don't end up having any communication with them, they're getting the boot. I'm pretty sure one of them is trying to sell books for an author.

message 6028: by Lisa (new)

Now Margaret, I am clearly NOT rejoicing. Rejoicing would mean 26 deg, with a lovely gentle breeze, a vodka, chocolate for later, and a dog. NONE of those are on the agenda. It's hooooooottttt, Margaret, it's not right, "crying".......

I received about three or four new friend requests lately (all of which were much older men). I naturally assumed that I had held some convo with them like I've done with all my other friends so I accepted. Turns out, none of their groups match mine so I have no idea how they found me. One even kept sending me messages asking me how my Christmas and then New Years was. His books did have a lot of old hollywood biographies & his original message to me was to comment on my picture (its Audrey Hepburn) so I guess he just friended me on our shared taste. Other than that, these other new "friends" and I don't communicate. Weird.

Bryn Hammond (brynhammond) | 1505 comments I've had to ignore a fair few friend requests in my time here. I mean, I don't if there's any chance we have interests in common... I do a 'compare books' if I can find no obvious link.

Same here. I call the others capiscums, but here those who use the term pepper for say chillies or bells, will say chilli pepper or bell pepper, but just pepper on its own is always black pepper.

Just as I was about to hit 'post' I remembered this too :)
If they're using white or lemon pepper they also use the descriptive word.

I received a friend request yesterday from someone trying to promote his book. Then another today from someone who has over 100 friends but only 1 book on his list. That being said, I love the site and have met some warm and friendly people.

As a newby I tend to send friend requests to people who have previously read books I may like to read, just to see reviews, never thought it odd tbh but see where your all coming from, I suppose what you need to remember is everyone was once a newby

message 6041: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (drokka) | 2675 comments I've never turned down a friend request. Lead to interesting suggestions. Now if it was abused and used as a method of sending me adverts, I'd just remove that individual as friend, but it's not been an issue thus far.

message 6042: by Bryn (new)

Bryn Hammond (brynhammond) | 1505 comments Dave wrote: "As a newby I tend to send friend requests..."

I hope I never turned you down, then. :) There's also the 'follow reviews' option to see those, which I use because I'm shy.

If a person has thousands of friends I don't, unless we've interacted - they won't notice anyway. Then there are those out to sell me either author services or books.

Alicja (darkwingduckie7) | 657 comments In the pat I accepted all friend requests but then realized I don't want to collect "friends" just to have them so now anyone sending me a request gets asked how I know them and if I don't, to get to know me because I'm friendly (mostly). I like chatting with people, even having discussions and respectful disagreements, and sharing books. After changing my question I started getting less friend requests but better quality (as in not publishers or friend collectors).

I totally respect your view, what would be the point in accepting a friend request from someone who you have nothing in common with it would be as bad as two political parties joining forces just to get into government.....oh wait that happened here in the UK

Does anyone know why people do that? (Have 1000s of friends on Goodreads). It doesn't exactly make you look like the sort of person who puts much into friendship-or is pretty promiscuous with your friendship anyway.
