It's -20C with a windchill that makes it feel like -27C here. Not the coldest we've had, but still, to darn cold for me. The minute it gets to 0C I have a cold until it reaches 2C again. Can't wait for late February!

Not historical fiction, but might interest anyone interested in death & burial, urban planning, history of subway/undergrounds systems.http://gizmodo.com/how-corpses-helped...

Sympathies. Philadelphia is cold, too, but not quite that bad.
The Saints march to Philly tomorrow and the weather will c-o-l-d. The Saints are my team, but I would pick Philly to win tomorrow because the Saints have not played very well outside the Super Dome and the cold weather might adversely affect them.
I hear there is to be an ice bowl in Green Bay on Sunday. And the stadium is sold out!!! Fans, gotta love 'em!
No way! The Saints are going to crush Philly. Drew Brees is going to tame those Eagles!
Green Bay fans are psycho.
Green Bay fans are psycho.
The weatherperson showed a picture of the US that really looked strange. Starting around mid Arizona heading east the entire country was colored blue for brrrrrrrrr. West of that was dirt colored. So everybody but us in CA, Oregon, and WA are freezing and we are enjoying 70 degrees and wearing t-shirts!
Aol weather said the next few days are going to be the coldest temps on record in the last 20 years. I just went grocery shopping so I can stay inside, snow on the way. (I'm in Michigan)
Folks, my Wifi has been dropping out these last couple days. I already had the issue when I did the Windows 8.1 upgrade, but now it is consistently bad. I suspect it is the heatwave we are having. Probably over heating the router. It is coming in and out as I type this.
I will be on GR irregularly until it comes good (or the ISP decides to send us a new network gateway. :/..)

Linda, I am Linda with no picture by my name. That cold weather hits us Monday. Low is supposed to be 9°F in the deep south. Terri, I don't know anything about routers, but my Nook continually lost Wifi connection when I used it outside last summer. Temp was always above 90°F. I was close enough to the source that I should have had connection. I hope that helps. My problem now is my Nook won't hold a charge for the normal number of hours. The Nook and that thing you plug into an outlet get hot to the touch when in use. Back to your problem. I have to re-set my Wifi connection often because Husband or son changed providers. The connection does not go out while I am using it though.

The Saints did not exactly crush the Phillies, but they had the clock for the win. I think they used voodoo to kill the hex (losing streak at away games). Today we watch the Ice Bowl II.
We are watching, too. Reality TV of thousands of people willingly freezing is irresistible. :P. Joking aside, I am expecting there will be plenty of warming spots and EMTs.
Margaret wrote: "Got given a preloaded Visa for Christmas. Have just been going nuts on The Book Depository. :D"Yay!! Have fun. I got $50 to Barnes & Noble so I am trying to squeeze as many books in there as I can for that price. Finagling is required ;)
The two new publications of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's "His Last Bow" and "The Return of Sherlock Holmes" with BBC Sherlock covers, two books issued to raise funds to preserve Doyle's home Undershaw, several Holmes pastiches, my own copy of Kim Newman's Hound of the D'Urbervilles, William Golding's trilogy To the Ends of the Earth, a little humour book called Very British Problems, and an audio book - Martin Freeman reading "Life, the Universe and Everything". Twelve items in all.
Nice Margaret! I'd listen to Martin Freeman read the phone book :) and leave it to you to help preserve something of Sir A.C.D's!
His Last BowThe Return of Sherlock Holmes (not the right cover)
Professor Moriarty: The Hound of the D'Urbervilles
To The Ends Of The Earth
Very British Problems: Making Life Awkward for Ourselves, One Rainy Day at a Time
Life, the Universe and Everything (not the right cover)

Lol. You're making Darcy earn her mod position.;)
The Art of DeductionSherlock's Home: The Empty House
Sherlock Holmes: The Breath of God
Sherlock Holmes: The Army of Doctor Moreau
Encounters of Sherlock Holmes
Storm Front
And that's my lot. :)

Even now I have one weak bar of wifi and it could go away at any moment.
The major problem is the new Windows 8.1 though. It has ruined my wifi.
Hi Mark,
In this heat even an icecream won't work. :-) 45.5 degrees celcius (114 degrees Fahrenheit)
Wow! 114? Okay...I'm gonna quit whining about the weather around here now. That's some crazy heat right there.
Derek wrote: "No way! The Saints are going to crush Philly. Drew Brees is going to tame those Eagles!Green Bay fans are psycho."
He'll get owned by the Hawks secondary next week! ;0
Derek wrote: "Wow! 114? Okay...I'm gonna quit whining about the weather around here now. That's some crazy heat right there."It was pretty hot. It got hotter around my State. Up to 49. (120 Fahrenheit) thank goodness our temp stopped rising at 45. I think 49 would drive me mad.

I'm not going to argue with that, Andy. I don't like the Saints chances at Seattle. Toughest defense in the league. But, as a Saints fan, I'm gonna keep my fingers crossed.

We miss your daily interaction, Terri. Tell those routers to get their act together. Glad I left Sydney where I'd learnt to expect 46 degree summers.
Thanks for missing me. :-) You sure are lucky to be on the coast now. Case and point..up here where I live we swelter at 45. While on the coast only an hours drive away they are chillin' at 36. Doesn't seem fair.
Lisa wrote: "Well in balmy Victoria today we have a top of 19' and gale force winds, hold on to your hats, haha."It's pathetic, isn't it? I've been glaring out of my office window at the clouds. I want my summer.
Lisa wrote: "Come on Margaret we had one day! Lol"Not enough!
Bloody hell, LONDON had more of a summer than we're having. :(
Send some cold weather our way. We had 84F/29C all day today and it is, unlike in Australia, winter here. Damn anyone who says global warming doesn't exist... the winters seem to keep getting hotter and hotter by the year (I know, stupid argument, don't care).
I'd previously lived on NSW mid north coast Margaret, and the humidity there was horrid. Your eyelids sweated!! Who knew. Alicja, it's such a contentious argument isn't it, and one I try to avoid, lol. But certainly it is all over the show.

I grew up in Auckland, New Zealand. Default humidity setting was 90%. I know all about horrid. :p
I can't stand the humidity. We were out in western NSW for a while, and it got pretty hot out there, but no humidity. I would like it to be about 25-27. That's nice. I'd also like an unlimited credit card, a boxer dog, a job in a library, ................
Ugh, the humidity! Our humidity averages in the mid-70s but peaks over the summer in over 90%. I get it, its like swimming through the air.

Lol. At least you don't have a blinding dust storm in your face, and the promise of a dream job that doesn't actually exist...calling you to a temperate paradise where slave labor awaits. Tom Joad will put it into perspective for you. It could be worse.;)
