Here are some picks of the Layton City lights - the first six lines or so are pics of the parkhttps://www.google.com/search?q=layto...
One other thing we do each year is go to the local Festival of Trees. It is the main fund raiser for the local Childrens Hospital and this year they had over 800 trees on display. All the tree are donated and then auctioned off. Last year they raised $1.9 million, I haven't heard this heard this yrs figure. We have been going for more than 25 yrs now and it is a great start to the Christmas Season.
If interested here is a link to a local news cast on teh Festival.

That Festival of Trees is a great idea for an even greater cause. Definitely sounds like a good thing to support.

Happy, does your wife rent you out? Decorating the outside of the house is a guy thing and my guy just isn't into it :(. He has enough good traits for me to have kept him around for over thirty years, but I'd love to have the house outlined in lights. We do put white LED candles in the windows and he hangs the garland over the doors and helps me bring home the biggest tree for sale in the lot where the proceeds go to our local high school. That task is becoming touching now that we are in our sixties and the young guys who work at the tree lot say, "may I help you with that, sir." Blink, blink. Gotta remember to pick up that mistletoe !
Wow. Those are beautiful light displays, Derek.I couldn't find a website for any light displays in towns around me.
I only found one picture on a local newspaper website. It was an article on some of those light displays this year. This was the only picture :(

I put my Xmas tree up late last week and put some tinsel on it. But it was a 41 degree day and I ran out of puff. Today I plan on finishing. Have to put the lights on it and then the decorations. Then Tuesday...Christmas shopping!!!!!!!! YAY!!!
That will mean presents under the tree on Wednesday.

Happy, that tree dedicated to that fallen police officer is very moving.

All my Christmas shopping and decorating are done. I will now sit here and look smug. :)

It's been very good for our community. Brings a lot of outside money into our local economy, because people come from all around to see it. Our local restaurant and gas station owners certainly love it.

Yes it was. Most of the trees have some sort of story behind them. Former patients who have recovered, recently departed, children who have passed - that sort of thing. Reading the cards is very emotional

(I'm NOT criticizing: I actually love Christmas lights - except for the bluish led lights, they give a refrigerator kind of feel)
Lol Simona:) No nuclear power plants, just tons of power cords. No doubt that it uses up a lot of energy, and that issue has been brought up many times. Most people around here think the positives outweigh the negatives. The light festival is the only reason one would have to visit this small town. Personally, I don't really know what to think about it.
I will tell you something about it that annoys me, though. I live very close to that park where the light display is. Every night, when the lights come on, they blare the same Christmas music on loud speakers over & over until 11 PM. It drives me crazy!;)

I would happily visit at Christmas and enjoy the show, Derek.Suggestion: ear plugs, but NOT the drugstore kind, the construction site workers' one. They do work.
(and saved my cousin's marriage, whose husband snored something fierce!)
Still not getting my notifications. Changed my email setting to "none" and I still 36 in my email this morning! Ugggggggghhhhhh!!!
Christmas Carols on repeat. Now there is a Christmas torture if you work somewhere that they are played day in day out.All those poor souls working in retail. They have no escape.
Allie wrote: "Still not getting my notifications. Changed my email setting to "none" and I still 36 in my email this morning! Ugggggggghhhhhh!!!"This is odd.
This is obviously something you have done, but do you click submit or apply changes (I can't remember what it says or if there even is one at the bottom of the page) thought I'd mention it anyway.
The number of times I think I have changed something on my computer, or online, or on GR, and I forget to click apply changes...its lots, I assure you. :\

This dosent happen to my email account, I get loads aday about comments and the like.
but when I check my email account theres only 1 from goodreads. Apparently the email is replaced by the new email some how.:/
Mine has been working this last week. I think I have been getting all my notifications via email and on the 'g'.
I agree, its very odd. Apparently its opposite day & my computer is playing along. Just checked my email, there were 11 comments from goodreads. Then when I logged on to GR, I only had three notifications! I know a lot more people than that have been on today. Keep going back into my profile and it days "none" for emails, so shouldn't I still be getting notifications when I'm actually logged onto GR? I have to go to to "home" to see if there's anything marked "new".
Hmm....I don't know. I need to check the profile area where all that is laid out. I want to say that if you select NONE that means no notifications in any form.I know that I have none clicked for GR Librarian Group and I get none. If I post in there I just check into the thread until the issue is resolved and that's it.
But then I don't think that option is in the 'email notifications'. i think I have that clicked in the groups notifications area.
It says emails: in bold then lists like 4 or 5 columns of choices to receive emails in. That's where I have it marked as none. But if I'm not supposed to get anything....why am I getting 3 notifications still and all the emails I'm not supposed to get at all??? My profile is all bicocted!
Allie wrote: "It says emails: in bold then lists like 4 or 5 columns of choices to receive emails in. That's where I have it marked as none. But if I'm not supposed to get anything....why am I getting 3 notifica..."Do you go further down and change it for group email preferences? That's the only place to make your notification change for specific groups.
I have all mine set to none and I pick the specific threads I want notifications from by going to the
Email me when people comment link by the thread comment box. Like this: https://www.goodreads.com/photo/user/...
Mark wrote: "but when I check my email account theres only 1 from goodreads. Apparently the email is replaced by the new email some how.:/ ..."That will be a setting you've chosen (or was chosen for you) in your personal email. You would typically have the choice to 'keep only the latest email' from a specific sender. I assume this is what yours is set at.
Also, one can set everything to none on their profile, but still select email in individual threads. Could this be part of the issue?
Dawn wrote: "Allie wrote: "It says emails: in bold then lists like 4 or 5 columns of choices to receive emails in. That's where I have it marked as none. I don't get this. Checked my email a few mins ago and had 26!! Logged onto GR's and only had 7 notifications! Just went back in there to check that it didn't switch back or anything but all choices under get emails say none so will see :(
I love looking at the mountains after a snow storm and the temp plunges :)The air is crystal clear and they look like they've been etched or a charcol sketch
FTR I live at the base of a 9800 ft mtn (2900+ m)( that's not quite as tall as it seems - the base is 4300 ft (1800+ m)
Wow, any photos Happy? It's a balmy 28 degrees here, and no doubt hotter where Terri is. Would love to see the snow, not to mention a mountain that size!
I'll take one tomarrow - the sunset was just gorgous - the mountain seemed to glow. It's been unseasonably cold - the lows have been around 0 to -5 (-17 to -20 C) and the highs only in the low 20's (-6 C)There is a city in southern Utah, St George, that recorded it coldest temp in 76 yrs yesterday.
I liked the view from my back deck when we moved in, 25 yrs ago, but now that the trees are up they block it:(
Anyone having trouble adding individual books to shelves? At the moment I can only add books to my want to read shelf.
Yes problems here too, can't addbook/author to topics & also tried to send friend requests jus now, some worked & others cant send? seems to be intermitent connection as well.

I'm passing on these temps to my family, as we just can't relate to that kind of cold here. We see a lot of that in the American photographic magazines my husband buys, and we are both always impressed by the beauty of it. Lucky you. Pleeeease post!
Mark wrote: "Anyone having trouble adding individual books to shelves? At the moment I can only add books to my want to read shelf."
I can't change shelves: Right now I'm reading Roman Wall by Bryher. I assume anything to do with the green bookcase doesn't work. The Add books/author feature doesn't work. Also 'Notifications' [the small g at the top] doesn't work.

'Cause if you're still getting emails you should talk to GR's. I've had them fix stuff for me in the past, they've been really good.

Oh, I see. We're yellow now instead of pink. I didn't know we needed this but I kinda like being able to see how many posts Terri has written! ;)

Thank you. I've joined and written at least 5 things that don't work for me. Some of you are having the same problems.

We took the grand kids to help pick out the tree and then went to see the Local City Holiday light display in the park.
Christmas is definately my favorite holiday.
