Frontline plus is the best. Its the only one used @ every rescue organization I've ever worked for and the only one I use on my own cats. Even if your cats are indoors, all it takes is one teeny tiny little flea to get in and bam! You'll have problems. So use it year round people! Its very simple to apply, less than a minute each month.

While we are on the subject of animals...I visit freekibble.com and freekibblekat.com every day to play the trivia game. Right or wrong, it donates 10 pieces of kibble to a shelter in need and today is doubled to 20 for every question answered. If there's any fellow animals lovers out there, spread the word!!!

I'm always so sad that I can't take in more than my two cats but my two babies are more than enough and we couldn't possibly care well for more than them.
Yay! Thank you for doing it! Now you have to continue every day ;)I know. I work in Detroit and find an abused, starving, flea bitten animal wondering in the cold every week. I fall in love with each one before I can find an opening somewhere in rescues or foster homes for them. If I took them all, my house would be featured on "hoarders" , there's so many out there. That's why the freekibble sites are awesome, you're still contributing & helping shelters to keep going on without the quilt of an animal staring you in the face!
I still feel guilty. But I would feel even more guilty if I had a ton of animals that I couldn't take care of or that got neglected because I have too many.
Alicja wrote: "Oh huh, just looked at the calendar and now feel like a crappy person. My three year anniversary is December 13th and I almost forgot! Crap, now I gotta plan something romantic. Still, beats workin..."At least you remembered in time. That will get you brownie points from your girlfriend. :)
Alicja wrote: "I still feel guilty. But I would feel even more guilty if I had a ton of animals that I couldn't take care of or that got neglected because I have too many."I believe there's a Jewish proverb that says "you save one life, you save the world entire" I imagine that extends to animals as well. There's only so much one person can do and 2 cats is a lot (and expensive!) so just look at your babies and be proud! They have a good life thanks to you! There's also a saying that goes "don't trust anyone who doesn't own a cat" haha, you own two so your to be doubly trusted! :)
Portia wrote: "Allie, you are a saint. I know this."Lol. I'm probably nicer to animals than people most days.
So am I. Hey! It sure is a good thing that the animals get the kibble no matter what. I got one question right and one wrong.
Spay or neuter your pets.
Get them micro-chipped!!! We got one of our cats back because he has a chip. True story.
Best from
Portia
That's why I like that site so much!Yeah, there aren't really any disadvantages to getting your pet microchipped. You'd think it would be expensive and its not. I'm glad you got your cat back Portia!

We generally don't do fancy so I can have a low key backup planned in case she hasn't planned anything but I need a gift and that's sending me into a panic. It took me months to figure out what to get her as a Christmas/Yule gift (certificate for a couples massage and spa day with mani/pedis, facials, and Champaign). And that leaves me out of romantic ideas.
She's more of a gamer but we just dropped a ton of money on games on Cyber Monday so we have more than we could possibly play in the next year and any that we've wanted. We also rarely go to the movies. The last movie we saw was Star Trek months ago. It's hard to think of something since we always decide on everything together, like we already have our Opera tickets for the next season and renewed out annual museum pass (for both the art museum and science museum, lol). Last year we stayed at a B&B for the weekend and the year before we went camping and mountain biking. I think this year we both forgot, lol.
Allie wrote: "Nice job on the Xmas gift by the way :)"Thanks! My straight friends are jealous because apparently boys never think to get presents like that. :P

Thanks Portia:)
Thanks Portia:)
Boys neverrrrrr think of anything on their own :) sorry guys buts it true! I think the best present I ever got from a boy was back in 1st grade. He laid a heart-shaped glass jewelry box down on my desk, pointed at it and walked away! I'm sure his mom picked it out haha. Well, you could give her the massage spa day early for your anniversary present and that would give you another week before Xmas to figure something out!
Alicja wrote: "I'm jealous!! I want a snow day too instead of the current 80 degrees F and 27 degrees C. Send some cool weather our way. :P"
I would love to be able to send this weather elsewhere. I don't like being cooped up for multiple days! 15 degrees F here. Yuck;)

Our Super Nintendo broke almost a year ago and we still have a ton of games left for it but nothing to play on. I am so proud of myself for finding the perfect gift. :) Thanks for helping!
Anyone else still having problems with GR? I can't get updates and the notifications are still arriving odd.
Geraldine Brooks is on of my favorite authors. Here are two I've read and one on my TBR. : Year of Wonders, about the town of Eam in England during The Plague; March, about the father of the girls in Little Women (American Civil War Era); and Caleb's Crossing, which takes place during the very early white settlements in New England.
Jane wrote: "Anyone else still having problems with GR? I can't get updates and the notifications are still arriving odd."Me! I changed my settings so I wouldn't receive emails anymore but I stopped getting notifications completely. So I changed it back to what it was before and I'm still not getting anything!
I'm getting emails AND notifications. And every time I change it, it goes back to notices AND emails. GRIPE!
Damn. Apparently the change back to the old Notifications menu is only temporary. *sigh*Just once I would like to see GR admit that one of their new features or redesigns don't work and should be 'recalled' permanently.

Oh, grrr, and here I was hopeful that they realized their update was crap.

It just seems they've been playing around with it all day. Sometimes mine'll work, other times one or more features don't.
I just wrote a frickin' review of Hamlet and when I clicked to post it said, sorry, error. F*ck them all! And of course I don't have a copy. Frickin' GR @^$#^*(^$!!!!

LOL. I feel your pain, Alicja.
LOL. I feel your pain, Alicja.
I always find that if I click and get the error page I go 'back' a page and it will take me to my review before I clicked send. Then I copy it and refresh and paste it before submitting again. Most of the time though, you can go back. Unless it is an error with your computer. :[
After having a couple Alicja experiences with GR, now I alway type up my reviews in WORD and than copy and paste them to Good Reads. A couple of personal notes
It has been snowing most of the day today, real light fluffy powder - can't make a snowman with it. When I took the dog for a walk this afternoon, it was just about perfect. Temp was in the high 20s (-1 or 2 for those of you outside the USA), just enough snow on the sidewalk to hear the crunch of the snow as I walked and not enough to cause footing to be a problem, and a light snow falling and dead calm. I enjoy walking in the snow anyway, but this was just about perfect. As I type this there is about 7 inches on my deck.
We also went and purchased the tree this afternoon. That really put me in the Christmas spirit.
If the temps stay like they have been, we might get a White Christmas after all even if we don't get another storm :)
