Alicja (darkwingduckie7) | 657 comments My girl is the one that never makes mistakes that way, lol. She's jump and not quite make the jump and then keeps on going like it doesn't phase her at all, just keeps going without stopping. My boy on the other hand looks shocked and then sheepish before he quietly, slowly, staying low to the ground tries to get out of my sight. It is hilarious!

Or they could go back to how it was before amazon took it over completely. I don't think many would mind. I always hate when companies change stuff that actually works (for example, like Microsoft came out with Win 8 that I hate and am still trying to figure it out when Win XP was awesome to begin with).

Terri | 19576 comments Ugh. Don't mention win8 to me...oop too late...I am having such an awful time with my wifi on win 8.1.
Googled it yesterday and apparently it is a rampant problem affecting many people when they did the upgrade to 8.1.

I wish they would fix it. You'd think Microsoft, with their money and their top level software creators, they'd be able to put a patch through in a matter of days. But no word from Microsoft on the issue yet.

message 5313: by Alicja (new)

Alicja (darkwingduckie7) | 657 comments Of course they can't, it doesn't make them any extra money. It's nice to have very little competition in the marketplace. They churn out as many new operating systems as possible, regardless of bugs. It means that people must purchase them to keep currant so they get more money. But fixing problems doesn't do anything, its not like we can actually go to a competitor...

That is the problem. You are so right. We could go to Apple, but we can only do that if we are about to buy a new computer or we are rich and don't care about pushing aside an existing Microsoft system for an Apple system. :\

message 5317: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 728 comments They all do that, don't they. Apple threw out the new operating system, and it still had plenty of little buggies! I have now bought my husband the new ipad air! and we need to upgrade our home computer. I think going apple may be a no brainer for us with the iPads and Chris's photography, but it's still a difficult decision to make. A laptop would be pointless, because of the ipad, and the large apple screens are not cheap. Decisions, decisions. More lottery tickets required me thinks.

Jane | 3480 comments My notification system [the display after you click on the 'g'] is completely different. I cannot 'like' a book; the computer won't let me. I haven't tried inbox yet, but I shudder to think...
@Terry, yes, I wish they'd go back to what they were before amazon took over.

message 5319: by Jane (new)

Jane | 3480 comments My inbox works fine, but the add book/author and html features do not work. Also, GR is extremely slow. I'm not buying any new system; I'll just muddle long the best I can with this one. [sigh]

Linda (ladylawyer8650) | 1702 comments Spaz, our indoor cat, and I still have some flea problems. We bombed the house Tuesday making things better, but I was bitten again Thursday. I cannot find their procreating spot. Everytime I go to the kitchen I come out with a flea, but there is no furry place for them to bed there. ??? Oh, nearly forgot, the cat has been treated through his food and oils for his fur. I read you can put a reading light over a white bowl of soapy water, leave it overnight, and the fleas will drown. Evidently they are attracted by the light. I have put moth balls everywhere, but I am not sure that is effective. There is a cold weather system moving across our area. If I turn off the heat, open the doors and windows, those suckers might freeze to death. I also read fleas carry bubonic plague. They burrow on rats and rats spread the germ. The measels are back! Have you heard that story yet? When I break out with measels, I'll let you know. I should have been an epidemiologist(sp). Lol

message 5321: by Portia (new)

Portia Measles and plague. Well. Nothing like finding a tic on oneself in a place where the sun don't shine.

Grins aside, I really do recommend Frontline Plus. Amazon has it in 3, 6 and 12 packs and it comes out to around $10.00 US per dose. We haven't had to bomb. Seems F+ gets rid of fleas, larvae, and eggs.

Lunch, anyone? Bleeeaaaack!

Have you tried salt & seven dust, Linda. That has worked for me when I've had flea problems in the past.

message 5323: by Mark (new)

Mark | 1885 comments Do you own a steam mop? That will kill the fleas and the eggs.

message 5324: by Linda (new)

Linda (ladylawyer8650) | 1702 comments No, I haven't. Where did you sprinkle it? Thank you for your help.

message 5325: by Mark (new)

Mark | 1885 comments A tea light candle floating in the soapy water works better than the reading light.

message 5326: by [deleted user] (new)

Linda wrote: "No, I haven't. Where did you sprinkle it? Thank you for your help."

I sprinkled it over my entire apartment, let it sit overnight, and then vacuumed.

Alicja (darkwingduckie7) | 657 comments I am having one of those work days today where I sneak onto Goodreads all the time because it just sucks. I got a second seasonal job too, to supplement our income, so I start training for it tomorrow. *grumbles* less time to read in my future.

Yay! GR at work, especially during one of those days, can be a lifesaver.

message 5332: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) It's just nice to think about books instead of the 20 files on my desk and the dozen inspections I need to do and phone calls I need to return, so I'm ignoring it all today!! :)

Alicja (darkwingduckie7) | 657 comments I am having one of those days too! There is something odd in my data when I run my statistical models today so I am pretty sure I coded something wrong. I'm just not in the mood today to sift through tons of data. How I love procrastination!

They keep putting the snow fall predictions farther away, it's not supposed to snow here until Wednesday now. I could do with a couple snow days, I have some banked days I could use up......and a dozen books to read....

message 5341: by [deleted user] (new)

Just noticed that Stephen King has joined Goodreads.
Sorry ya'll. I'm getting cabin fever.

message 5342: by Mark (new)

Mark | 1885 comments How deeps the snow Derek?

message 5343: by [deleted user] (new)

We got about 8 inches of snow, which isn't too bad, but before the snow began, we had 2 or 3 inches of freezing rain and sleet. The roads are too slick to drive on.

message 5344: by Mark (new)

Mark | 1885 comments The uk completely shuts down with snow that deep. Lols.

Many vets don't recommend fleabombing because of all the chemicals released into the air & then settles on all your stuff, they recommend a spray instead. Its about $18 a can and kills all four stages of a flea. As someone who deals with fleas often (I rescue animals off streets & volunteer @ shelters), the spray is the way to go. Those suckers won't be back as long as you keep kitty on flea meds. Frontline is best. Also wash all your clothes & bedding because its probably got their nasty little eggs burrowed in there. Dawn mixed with water by a light will drown some if your lucky but those little buggers have already laid 50 eggs a day by the time they crawl into that soapy dish. Keep a flea collar in your vacuum bag too. Heat makes the eggs hatch and the collar inside the bag will kill them. Otherwise, they can just crawl right back out after all that vacuuming you did! Good luck!

message 5348: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) Honestly, I wouldn't trade my -2 for your 27. I hate the heat so much!!

message 5349: by Portia (new)

Portia We had a flea problem a few years ago and our (now FORMER) vet recommended we bomb. When I read the label of said bomb, I decided to try something else. Frontline, as Aliie has said, works best for us. It goes on between the shoulder blades, so no ingestion required. Even cats can't get to that spot to lick. And Frontline Plus kills tics as well.

I do too! Which is unfortunate that I was raised in Florida. But it is hard to move away up north since my girlfriend and I both have good jobs down here and the only way we'd be able to afford to move is if we found similar jobs up there. In this economy it is hard for two people to find good jobs thousands of miles away in the same city. But we keep trying.
