Oh--thanks. She wouldn't be my cup of tea either.

She's the American national treasure. I think that is fair enough too. She seems nice and is a wonderful role model for young girls. There should be more female musicians like her.
Not my kind of musician though. :)
Speaking of people of East Indian extraction, I just had a Mindy Kaling moment: Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? I went off to do a few things at Message 5165 and look what's happened!! :)

Yep. She's the anti-Miley Cyrus. Not my kind of music either, though.

With no teenagers in the house, I'm not up on this pop culture stuff.
Lord, at least I've heard of Bieber. The other one [male; female?] doesn't do anything for me. I take it he? She? is of the same genre?

I think you're better off not knowing about Miley Cyrus, Jane.
I agree, Derek.Who is the one they talk about on the credit card commercial that the kids get all excited about going to see and the Dad has some kind of magic points? Katy Perry?
Derek wrote: "I think you're better off not knowing about Miley Cyrus, Jane."Fine by me. Well, somebody likes him/her!
I have only heard of J Beiber (sp?) because the sixty-year-old lady at work was in lust with him. Have safely not heard of these others mentioned.

How are you on modern opera as a whole? Glimmerglass [in Cooperstown, NY; we try to make it every summer] is having a modern opera and we're debating about going or just skipping. We don't like the other offerings. An American tragedy , based on the Theodore Dreiser book of the same name, looks semi-interesting....

I'm not sure that I've seen that commercial. I usually tune them out. I will admit to having a crush on Katy Perry, though. I don't like her music, but she's easy on the eyes. ;)

Tip of the day: If you go through the trouble of cataloguing your library in a fancy specialised tool do yourself the favour and back that sucker up. *grumbles as she processes her friggin' thousands of books AGAIN*
I think Katy Perry is another good role model for young girls. That one mentioned before, Cyrus, NOT a good role model at all. More of a case study of what happens when you are a showbiz kid and you need attention too badly as you are going through your hormonal changeover from kid to adult.
Most of us went a little wild in that phase didn't we? Only this kid is going wild so she can get attention from the media and not become old news.

Listen here!! It's bad enough that Celine Dion is a national treasure, Bieber is just here for his minutes and then we can move on!!
Terri wrote: "Oh no. How did that happen?"Well, when my other laptop did the slow death thing, it didn't occur to me that when I got around to installing the programme all my data wouldn't follow. Simply ignorance on my part. I back all my other stuff up, it just never occurred to me that I needed to do this one. I guess I thought it was backed up by the group that sells the programme.
On the upside, I'm more experienced with the programme and can organise things better. So, it's not an entirely bad thing.

I'm not even sure I could find my iron. It's around here somewhere. There was a time-too long for sure when I had to go to the Laundromat-UGH. At lease I had my books with me. Then I finally got a washer and had to hang out the clothes. Not I have both and bless them every day.

So, when viewing the house I asked if there were laundry facilities nearby and the rental agent said "oh, not a problem" and he whipped out a 'conditions for rental' and added that I would only accept the place if washer and dryer were included.
I had to contain my dance of joy until I got home, but I danced it happily for days. They aren't the prettiest machines, but they are grand. The washer can do oversized loads and all. I was stunned. I got lucky!

Whether composed as a modern piece or an older opera with a modern arrangement and set.
We usually check everything out on YouTube before we get the tickets. It's a 3 hour round trip drive and season's tickets cost over $500 so we don't want to waste our time.
Only one I really hated was Nixon in China. We also left at intermission for West Side Story but I still think of that as a musical not an opera.

that is suprising that the program you use doesn't have an online storage or cloud service. That's no good.

The irony is that they just introduced a cloud feature. It didn't exist when the laptop expired. Still, I'm backing it up on my own too.

I'm the only family member who ever liked musicals and I've never really liked West Side Story. It was a tremendous hit for the Vancouver Opera though, so I'm very happy for them.

Christmas Trees will ALWAYS take precedence over Justin Bieber :p
I have a 1 notification stuck to my messages envelope icon. (The one in top right hand corner next to the notification 'g'.I am hoping that is a sign that GR are doing some fiddling with their new feature so that i can click on the envelope to get to my inbox without having to use their new drop down menu.
Oh..and I should make it clear...I don't think they are working on only mine! I mean across the site.I don't get any special treatment just because I complained to them about it. :)
Dawn wrote: "They have 'Prince Igor' playing at Cineplex this season as part of their Met Opera Live in HD. I am very tempted to go see it, I think it sounds great."It's a favourite of mine. One I play most often -- although, mostly CD 2 (out of 3). That's the CD with the dances -- that you have to dance to, and vigorously -- and with Igor's song 'give me freedom' which I can now sing in Russian; and with him and the gorgeous khan who has him captive and tries to load gifts and woman slaves upon him. Finishing with that mass song 'Glory to the khan' whereon I am jumping up and down so much my floorboards are in danger and... it's an exhausting CD.
I have never been to an opera in a theatre, like. Since you can't misbehave I don't know if I can rec this one.

Oddly enough, when I was out today I heard the Polovetsian Dances on the muzak playing.
Definitely the dances look like a big draw for seeing 'Prince Igor' live but it might be pretty good on a theater screen too. Love Turandot and Suor Angelica. Beautiful music.

Prince Igor should be colorful.

Eileen, you might like Korngold's Tote Stadt. That's one of my favorites and easy to like. Korngold's the one who wrote movie music in the '30s and '40s. He used to joke he wrote for Maria Jeritza [the opera singer] and for Bette Davis both!

I saw West Side Story years ago at the Pacific Opera in Los Angeles. I enjoyed it.

She's a young American country & western pop singer. Cheesy, but better behaved than Bieber.
