Also there are those two further Valerius books that I want to savor.

Offhand, and I haven't read it yet, Pure sounds similar in certain aspects to Pompeii, which I really liked, although different time and place. I'm just speculating though...

You are right! I had forgotten about that Hardy character! I think her first name was Bathsheba, but I will have to check later, after turkey day is done.

It isn't an action adventure. Couldn't be any further from what you usually read.

I really liked it. But if people want action and high drama, they will not get it from Pure

Terri | 19576 comments *snort*
As a man I am:

You are Charlie Bucket from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Your uncanny insight into people and situations make you very special indeed. You are gentle, caring, complex and place a great deal of faith into your instincts and intuitions. When others, like Veruca Salt, show ugly behaviour, you try to understand why before passing judgement.

Frustratingly for you, you often struggle to explain your complex emotions and intuition so you sometimes internalise these feelings, picking and choosing when to reveal your inner self. New acquaintances may find you undemonstrative, and your friends might think you stubborn at times, but those who get to know you will build a special place in their heart for you.

I guess that makes me Charlie and A&M is my chocolate factory. ;D

Terri | 19576 comments Oh, I don't know. :) I think the female me and the male me have been pretty close to spot on. except for this in the Charlie Bucket description;

When others, like Veruca Salt, show ugly behaviour, you try to understand why before passing judgement.

I DO NOT do ugly behaviour at all. I don't try and understand before passing judgement. I don't judge, because I just don't think there is any excuse for ugly behaviour. Period. :)

message 5020: by Bryn (new)

Bryn Hammond (brynhammond) | 1505 comments Funnily, my Jane Eyre and Catcher-in-the-Rye guy descriptions had a lot of commonalities. So maybe.

Terri | 19576 comments For folks using a mouse with their computer.

With the new Goodreads Inbox drop down menu (up in top corner of page next to the 'g' for notifications is the Inbox Envelope icon) you can't click on that envelope icon to go to your inbox.

What you have to do now is click on the envelope, which drops down a messages menu, then you click on 'view all messages' and that will take you to your inbox.

To avoid having to do all this clicking just to get to your inbox. You can click the middle of your mouse (the scroll wheel) on the envelope icon.
That will take you direct to your inbox.
____________________________________________________

For tablet users,
I don't know if this will work. But some people are saying that they can't even click on the envelope icon to get the new drop down messages.

To get to your inbox, maybe you can right click and open in new window to get to your inbox?

message 5024: by Jane (new)

Jane | 3480 comments Who picked out these choices? The more 'pop culture' ones I have no idea about.

message 5025: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (drokka) | 2675 comments My male one is George Smiley

You are George Smiley from Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
Like George Smiley, on a good day your analytical, pragmatic and logical side make you a bit of a mastermind. On a bad day you can be hard to please, picky and worrisome but your thoughtful and precise approach is admired by friends and colleagues alike – as is your lack of hesitation in telling them when they’re being foolish.

Smiley is in many ways the antithesis of James Bond, and you are not likely to be the life and soul of the party like many of "the Cousins". However, if you planned a party it would run like clockwork.

They sound quite similar Katniss and George...except the whole fighting to the death bit.

message 5026: by Ann (new)

Ann Chamberlin | 10 comments You are so right about library techies, Jane. Where I work, we knew that more often than not, the program patrons could search would not show the item. Only staff had access to most of the titles. When I went to a techie to complain, he shrugged and said, "Nobody's done anything on the patron program for five years." They still don't care; they've never hunted for a real book in their young lives.

Give me back the old wooden card catalogue, please.

Amen!!! They dumped the card catalog years and years ago, but I insisted on keeping the catalog card shelflist--such a big help in my cataloging and even for the other staff and students! Of course, as soon as I retired , they dumped it and replaced it with, what, you guessed it, more computers for the students!

Apparently your link cut off part of it. However, I couldn't find the quiz--either they moved it or it's gone or I missed something. I wanted to try it again as a guy.
