We will discuss CINDER using this thread.

Shelli (snunciato) | 2 comments "The air sweated with August heat..."(17) - Love that phrase. Being from Texas, I understood it immediately.

Karin (kperry) | 89 comments Mod
Thanks Shelli. I think posting quotes are great. I think I'm going to create a couple of different threads for us to keep everything organized. Quotes and Cinderella comparisons are the two I'm thinking of now. Can you think of any others?

Chris | 9 comments I love the sci-fi, futuristic spin on the classic tale. I'm really curious as to the circumstances under which Cinder became a cyborg; I'm hoping that gets revealed later in the story.

Kristine Hall (kristinehallways) Chris - I was thinking the same thing. I want the back story on Cinder becoming a cyborg. I'm only in chapter 5, so maybe it's coming.

Kristine Hall (kristinehallways) I love this book and am forcing myself to stop. Got the good ol' TExES pretest in the morning.

And do we now have a little Anastasia-type twist?

Chris | 9 comments I read it anyway, because I was guessing the same thing! It won't spoil it for me, though! I love it when my predictions are proven.

Paula | 6 comments I don't mind spoilers. Sometimes I feel it takes away some of the anxiety or tension while reading or watching a movie.

Tracy J Hora | 11 comments I got hooked on this one right away! I took my TExES pretest last night and treated myself to a relaxing day of reading today. I am so sad that I am finished. I am a sucker for a fairy tale and just loved this book. I hate that I have to wait until next year for the next one...that drives me crazy!!

Kristine Hall (kristinehallways) Tracy, I am so jealous! I am just feeling too much pressure to work on stuff for our class & internship to feel like I can just sit and finish the book. Like you, I am hooked! Love this book!

Was anyone else surprised about Cinder being a Lunar? Didn't see that one coming. Wondering, though, if the doctor knew Lunars were immune, why haven't they been working on that already? Seems like they'd have swarmed the ones living in the country and allowed them to stay only if they cooperated with experiments. Especially once the Emperor was infected. Cinder couldn't possibly have been the first Lunar the doctor had ever encountered.

Danis | 25 comments Tracy, I know! I said to myself, " I have to wait that long?!!" Like the kids say, "That's not fair!!"

Kristine Hall (kristinehallways) Okay, finished this last night (SOOOO needed to be working on school work)and was pleased that my questions above were answered but BUMMED that this book can't stand alone. It ended in absolute chaos! Smart author to leave us hanging on for the next installment in the Lunar Chronicles.

Don't you just LOATHE the Lunar Queen?

This was a great choice, Dr. Perry. Thanks!! I never would have picked it up on my own, but I'm so glad I did.

Laura Gott (httpswwwgoodreadscomlaura_gott) | 4 comments Oh My Gosh! I just finished and I LOVED IT! Can't wait to find out what happens in book 2! I agree that I would like the back story on Cinder becoming a Cyborg.

Paula | 6 comments It took me about half the book to really get into it and then spent much of today finishing it. Maybe I have a little sixth sense when it comes to seeing things coming in books and movies. SPOILER****
I thought early on that Cinder could be Selene. I know it was a shock but I wish Kai would have been a little less disgusted by Cinder's cyborg features and not accuesed her of using Lunar control.

Tawnya | 17 comments I finished this last night and closed the book wanting more. I really enjoyed it and can not wait to get my hands on the next one, but I thought a lot of the story line was pretty predictable.
****Spoiler Alert****
From the moment Selene was mentioned in the story, I thought that is who Cinder was. When I read that part toward the end I actually shouted out "I knew it!" I got a weird look from my husband...

I have to agree with Paula that I was a little disappointed in Kai's reaction when he found out Cinder was cyborg and Lunar.

Kristine Hall (kristinehallways) I was disappointed, too, about Kai's response to Cinder, but it makes for a whole new obstacle to be overcome in the next book!

Chris | 9 comments I finished this last night....and was taken aback by the abrupt ending! I know a teaser is necessary for the sequel, but the ending was a bit too cut off for me. I really enjoyed the book....but since I, too, guessed Cinder's identity early on, it was almost too easy of a read. I like to be challenged a bit!

Elizabeth Wilborn | 2 comments I loved the cover but I was not really fond of futuristic science fiction at all, so I didn't know if I would like this book. Of course, once I got into the story, I loved it. The writing was descriptive enough to help me relate to the world as I know it. The parallel to the Cinderella story line also helped. I think the YA readers at my internship school will like this book. I told some about it and they wanted to read it so I am donating my copy to the library. I hope the sequel comes out soon.

Stephanie Sapp | 13 comments ********SPOILER ALERT!!******I really enjoyed the book and couldn't wait to see how it ended. I was disappointed that it didn't end differently. The next book is titled Scarlet and I'm trying to figure out the plot. I think it's the Cinderella tie-in that really pulls the reader in to this book. We love the idea of a girl that is picked on by her family to be able to overcome it all and dance with Prince Charming. I need to reread some parts because I don't understand how exactly the disease is spreading by Lunars. I kept thinking the Prince was going to fall ill from the Lunar Queen infecting him.

Danis | 25 comments Teri wrote: "I listened to this book last month since I knew I would be spending lots of time in the car. It was quite a good audio, first. I think the only complaint I have about the book is that I am growin..."

I agree with you. Sometimes it feels like we are "short-changed" when we spend time reading a book, but then it doesn't end and you have to read the next novel to see how it ends. I do like series, but I like it when a book "ends" and the next one begins.

Kristine Hall (kristinehallways) Teri, I am SO with you on that! Have we seen the end of the stand-alone novel? I hope not.

Tawnya | 17 comments After purchasing this book to read for the book club, I added it to my library. My high school girls are loving it! It has not stayed on the shelf!

Karin (kperry) | 89 comments Mod
That is good to know. I read it last year and I just finished listening to the audio book yesterday. The audio book was really good too. I liked it just as much as the first time.

Daniela | 5 comments I finally had an opportunity to finish the book that I begun back in February along with everyone else. I am aware that it is quite overdue but I figure the cliche phrase "Better late than never" might be a sufficient explanation. I really enjoyed this book and even though I kept putting it aside to complete other reading, I always seemed to find my way back into its pages. Overall, I felt that although it was pretty predictable as a reader I like to satisfy my curiosity. I can't wait for the next installments. I am curious to see how Marissa Meyer will incorporate the stories of Rapunzel, Little Red Riding Hood, and Snow White.

Karin (kperry) | 89 comments Mod
Daniela - what do you mean about incorporating the stories of Rapunzel, Little Red Riding Hood, and Snow White? Is she supposed to? That will be interesting.

Thanks for posting even though you finished a little after everyone else.

Courtney I am just starting this! What luck that this book is one of the choices. Can't read any posts yet, I'm paranoid for spoilers!

I will add that when I read the book jacket summary to my husband he laughed out loud and said, "Are you serious?" Heck yeah, I'm serious. :-)

Courtney Just finished. Such a fun book! I had thought about Cinder being Princess Selene but I was still a little surprised when I read it. I can't wait for the sequel. I am looking forward to the setting being in Africa. I was heartbroken when Adri had Iko destroyed. I am interested in Cinder's Lunar powers and I am so curious as to what she is going to do with Peony's ID chip. I thought she might just put it in her own arm... but I don't think so. This book also left me with incredible cravings to go have Dim Sum and eat lots of dumplings! Would love to know more about Cinder's parents and her adoptive dad!

I'm so glad you liked it!!!!

Courtney, you need to read the VERY short prequel, Glitches. Fills in some unknowns about the step-dad and circumstances that brought Cinder in. Also, I just read an interview with Meyer, and apparently the next book brings in the Red Riding Hood/Wolf thinly veiled fairy tale. Seems like the third book is a Rapunzel character. Somehow they all intertwine.
